IT'S THURSDAY ALREADY.

so, tuesday I got up for exercise party. it was good. we did... power squats? with a barbell? from the floor? I think my coach is used to people getting frustrated at complex movements but really I just need to work it out and remind some of my muscles to fire. he doesn't realize that I could practice the same thing for hours and be ok with that (it's the martial artist in me, I think).

Wednesday was SNOW DAY. so, exercise party was cancelled, and we got a boatload of snow (not the most, just like, 12-15 inches), and shoveled at 630pm and ate pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. so good.

Today is Thursday, and I meant to get up and go to exercise party but totally didn't manage to set an alarm and slept in. it's probably for the best - even though we'd shoveled the driveway we didn't clear off the cars, and it took a while to get the car out so I could go to work. I had a huge indian lunch and I'm exhausted right now. we're doing a lower belt test on thursday in tkd, and everything feels a little up in the air at work. WHELP.

Dammit I'm eating a great Thai green curry but now I really want a pulled pork sandwich instead.

I basically had 2 lunches (a samosa chaat and a kaathi roll) so I suggest you have a pulled pork sandwich for 2nds.

Sorry, I hope I wasn't being a jerk? I was just giggling at the phrase like I'm nine years old.

lolz no not at all! I thought it was hilarious. I was just typing out a super long post about food and fitness and etc etc etc and hit "submit accidentally" and had to edit it and start over so I didn't trail off in the middle of a sentence. <3

Happy friday y'all.

I'm so tired!

I did a poooooor job this week of going to bed at a reasonable time. I'm getting 30 fewer minutes average per night than I did last night. So, that's something to do better at. 10:30 bedtimes =/= good. 9:30 is much better, though still tiredifying.

I've been doing this exercise class for 2 weeks as of today, though it's really just 8 days (she says then realizes that this is 8 out of 11 days possible I am ridiculous). it's HARD, and I still like it, and it's so so so nice to have someone telling me what to do. I need to get better sleep (and maybe not have snow days), I'd like to do this 5 days a week to see what happens.

Today we did a "metcon" which (I totally guessed accurately) stands for metabolic conditioning and it was an increasing workout, so you started with 10 dumbbell swings (?), 15 box jumps (or stepovers like I did, because I have never done a box jump before ever, and this wasn't the day to learn them), then 20 swings and 15 box get overs, and then 30 swings and 15 box thingies. the whole thing was to go up to 50 dumbbell swings, and he suggested I stop at 30, but I was keeping up, and I got to finishing the 30 dumbbell swings and he was like oh.... maybe you should keep going, so I did, and that felt GOOD. I like surprising people. I like being able to keep up.

I can't figure out the food thing. I know I just started a new strenuous exercise program. I'm loosely tracking calories, by which I mean "not weighing things so maybe I could be a little off." I'm super hungry and am eating food and trying to pause so I'm not just filling my body with stuff when I'm possibly a little hungry but actually super bored. So here's my question: how do I know how much I *really* need to eat? At this stage my BMR is calculated to be 1640, and my TDEE is ~2540 assuming moderate activity (3-5x a week).  I have a big gap in calorie tracking over the last few months but for the last 2 weeks I'm eating about 2000 calories per day and netting around 1800, after exercise calories are subtracted. note, I am not losing weight right now. what does that mean? is my data just super off? is my body too accustomed to 1800-2000 calories / day after the last long time period of tracking calories? (like, several years, mostly on, sometimes off.)

my rational brain says "hey maybe you're not eating enough." (my rational brain is dressed like raptron in her dino suit). my lizard brain (note NOT a raptron dino suit entity, but the part that wants me to run away from things and hide in rock cracks and nooks and crannies and lie around in the sun and eat crickets) is like.... BUT IF YOU EAT MORE THEN YOU WILL JUST GAIN WEIGHT! and I think both brains are right but I am not sure exactly what to do so hey, maybe you lovely smart not-quite-strangers on the internet can help out?

(Also, impatient brain is like: HEY YOU'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 2 WHOLE WEEKS WHY AREN'T YOU TOTALLY FIT AND TRIM YET YO? and I'm trying to sit on impatient brain to get her to shut up.)

<3 If you've still been hungry (which I mean... yeah, probably. I'd be hungry eating like 2000k/day fer sure), I'd say fairly confidently you can increase your calorie intake (probably to like 2300-2400) without gaining much weight, if any! And maybe it'll be that boost that helps you perform better and makes you feel good. :) Also, just anecdotally, I know a good number of people that found increasing their carb intake was really the way to go to both feel good and do better when introducing things like metconssss.

Keep sitting on impatient brain! I feel like it is hard to know what you have to do dietarily until you've spent at least... 4-6 weeks with this new program. It doesn't sound like you want to increase your caloric intake anyway, so you can take this month or so to 1) see what happens if you don't change much on the food front and 2) see how you feel once your body has adjusted to the new program. Then you can Try New Things and see what happens. :D

thank you!

For what it's worth I'm on a tremendous sourdough bread kick and have probably been eating more bread on the regular than ever before (honestly was never a huge bread person). I mean, only a monster could 73968c69b86b0ef698eeeac99d70cc5b.jpgresist this:

I for real don't mind increasing my calories and have been eating a little bit more than previously - honestly, I love food so much. and my muscles are growing yo! which is so exciting. I'm a little bit too close to my higher weight right now though, that's all. Psychologically I'm feeling a little sensitive about just going balls out experimentation on food and seeing what happens.

oh hey--now that this challenge is over, I found your thread!

So, like, hi n stuff. [emoji4]

oh hai!

CHALLENGE RECAP

I nailed this no-pressure two week challenge. TOTALLY NAILED IT.

* goal: go to new gym class 3x a week:

Week "1" - I went 4x

Week "2" - I went 3x

oh and this week I"ve gone 2x already not bragging or anything totally not.

I feel like I"m getting a handle on my food a little bit. I'm not starving every day any more at least! still not planning to freak out about the eating or weight, unless things radically change.

and, I was able to get back in the groove of popping back in here, which I'm so thankful for.
