Ach, ye outdo yerself, Gonnagle. Tis the finest song yet. I particularly liked the verses about the fightin'. And also those about the drinkin'. The stealin' was quite good, too.

Week something Day 3

Is it week two? One? I dinna ken.

I havenae been doin' well at the challenge this week. It's the lyin' doon. I havenae been doin' any of it. I'm queasy with the lack o' lyin' doon.

So I'm going tae take emerrrrrrgency measures. New morning routine with extra time built in tae relax and wake up slowly. New evening routine designed tae get me into bed as early as possible. And I'll be stealin' as much meditation as I can to rearrange my heid.

Week 2 Day 4

I did th' lyin' doon! I did at least eight hours o' the lyin' doon. Twas annoying at the time, but mighty guid after the fact. I'm no sae queasy noo. I didnae steal any meditation, though. I'll try tae do that today.

Aye:

  • I did the lyin' doon.
  • Pints drunk: 5/9
  • Stole 20 minutes for meditation
  • Did kind of a baseline amount of conditioning for the fightin'

Nay:

  • I'm late. Ye canna be late to a fight, ye ken.

Hagglin': TBA

  • Pints drunk: 3/9

Nay:

  • Had Friday brain

Ach, I've been wearin' the Vetinari tartan all week. Can I do that? Can I wear the same thing every day? It makes it so easy to get dressed in the morning.

(The Vetinari tartan consisted of black stripes on a black background. You could say what you liked about him, the bastard had style.)

Good Lord, I just googled Vetinari and found out there are 40 disc world books. I’ve read like three...

Anyway, still not totally sure what’s going on around here, but good job, keep it up! Or, I’m sorry, let’s hit it hard tomorrow; you can do it!

Oh my, are you in for a treat. There are some fantastic books in there.

(Except for the first three, which aren't quite Discworld yet, although Equal Rites is fine as a non Discworld book. Even Pratchett recommended starting at Mort. And, er... the last two need to be read through the lens of "this man is dying of Alzheimer's, and producing these books at all is a miracle and a rushed affair to hit the final deadline". Which is a damn tragedy, because he'd hit a pretty great peak in storytelling.)

I’m pretty sure I read the first three when they were the only three.

I am so excited for you. You have ALL THE THINGS to look forward to.

The first three books were written as parody or commentary on fantasy tropes. Then it took on a life of its own, and became a rich, layered, genre-aware satire with really well done characters, deadly puns, a strong philosophical layer, and increasingly insane-sounding summaries that he makes work as both gonzo comedies and intensely serious books.

Oh man, you haven't met Captain Vimes yet. Or the real Granny Weatherwax. Or any of Death's family. (Or Moist von Lipwig, or Vetinari, or Carrot, or...)

Look, let's cut to the chase: where would you like me to put this dump truck full of books?
