Seraphina
I'm so happy I get to join the Rangers guild for this challenge! I did my first challenge in the nub section last month. Main Quest: No more I have a sugar demon that needs slaying. No more sweets at home or at work. This is going to be really, really tough for me compared to my last main quest. I'm fully resolved to conquer this by the end of the challenge, though. Secondary Quest: I create myself Schedule and complete 2 planned workouts per week (continuing this from my last challenge because an injury had me batting 50%) At least 1 of these workouts needs to be circuit training each week (I like to dance too much and I hate weightlifting -- I'll never lift a single weight or do any bodyweight exercises if I don't do this) Go on an intentional walk every day (expanding on this habit, as I walk at work every day) Secondary Quest: Keep calm and beware the bad wolf Take 5 minutes to meditate each morning 7 Quote La esperanza del fénix puede abrirse camino a través de los cielos del desierto y aún desafiar el rencor de la fortuna; revivir de las cenizas y levantarse. For me, near abstinence works best. Eating sugar makes you crave more sugar so it's best to just try and not eat any, but with the knowledge that you will slip sometimes and that's okay as long as it's a one day thing. Everyone's different and for some people abstinence absolutely does not work because it becomes a forbidden fruit thing but that's what's worked for me I did the same thing with soda a few years ago and about 4 years later I finally got to where I don't really want it anymore. I can have some without craving more. It's still a default comfort food when I'm particularly stressed or sick but once I have a little bit I realize I don't actually want it. 2 Quote Maigs Resurrects From the Dead Link to comment

In the past I gave up sugar and as long as I stayed away from it as much as possible, I had no problems. I'm hoping to get where you are, where I can occasionally have it and realize it's not all that great. I think an important part of that abstinence decision, at least for me, is saying that I am doing that for myself and it's not being imposed on me by someone or something (like guilt or shame). Seraphina
End of Week 1 Check-In My boyfriend left a couple of hours ago. It was super nice to have him here for so long, but now we won't see each other again for almost 3 weeks. It's been a busy spring break for me, and I have to scramble to finish the analysis for both my thesis and my independent study in the next 3 days. The good news is, I don't have any sweets or dairy in my house and we did a lot of walking this week. The bad news is, I've been eating like crap all week and not meditating. It's the first time my boyfriend has been able to make it to Denver in 4 months, and he's one of those skinny dudes with a huge appetite who can eat whatever without gaining weight. I kind of expected things to be like this, as whenever I'm out of my routine I have a hard time maintaining and changing habits. We wanted to party and eat good food and have a good time for break, and we did. Now it's over and time to get back to the grind. I'm ready for the sugar withdrawal to set in over the next couple of days. Week 2, let's go... 3 Quote La esperanza del fénix puede abrirse camino a través de los cielos del desierto y aún desafiar el rencor de la fortuna; revivir de las cenizas y levantarse. I find a really good approach for this is to be prepared - and since we're creatures of habits a great way to make sure you are always prepared is to start working preparedness into your regular routine/habits. Like batch cooking, or stocking up on healthy snacks, or taking some time every Sunday to look at your schedule and pre-decide what you might order at various restaurants. It's hard, and things definitely go sideways a lot when routines get mixed up. No worries - just jump right back in! Hope things are going well this week and the sugar withdrawal isn't too terrible. 1 Quote forty-seven: Raxie and the Joining of Unlike Things << previous challenges >> >> instagram || goodreads << Link to comment

Preparedness before breaks in routine/vacation is a fantastic idea. Definitely going to work that into my goals somewhere, as I travel several times a year and every time it derails me. I gain like 5 pounds a week when I travel, it's awful. 1 Quote La esperanza del fénix puede abrirse camino a través de los cielos del desierto y aún desafiar el rencor de la fortuna; revivir de las cenizas y levantarse. Seraphina
Checking in since my school work is finally slowing down... Main quest - No sweets or dairy at home or work: Sugar withdrawal has been bad. I'm moody, my brain is foggy, and I'm getting headaches pretty often. I've been eating a couple servings of fruit each day to help mitigate it, and it definitely helps. No sweets or dairy in my house or at work is going well so far, though! I ignored the cookies at work on Monday like they were my ex-boyfriend. Secondary quest - Exercise 2x per week and daily walking: Kind of like last challenge, this challenge has been a, "What workout?" sort of affair. My ankle sucks, and it really bothers me. It swells every night and hurts all day, just from everyday walking. I'm breaking in new boots, so every time it snows (which has been 3 times during this challenge thus far), I've gotten bad blistering on my heels and the bottom of my feet. Secondary quest - Meditate for 5 minutes each day: I've meditated 2/3 days so far, but only did 5 minutes 1/3 of the time. I'm not very patient or relaxed. Still working on this one. I need so much chill, especially right now while my school shit is nuts. I wanna be this guy: But really I'm more like this So in short, I'm kind of sucking at everything but the main challenge. Edit: And I lost 2 pounds this week, so that's cool. 4 Quote La esperanza del fénix puede abrirse camino a través de los cielos del desierto y aún desafiar el rencor de la fortuna; revivir de las cenizas y levantarse. Seraphina
End of Week 2/Beginning of Week 3 Check-In Main quest - No sweets or dairy at home or work Sugar withdrawal is substantially better. I'm starting to feel a lot better physically and mentally. I think this is also due in part to me adopting a more plant-based way of eating lately as well (battle log has some details on that). Still nothing at home, and not tempted there at all. I've been eating fresh fruit 1x a day and dried fruit (without added sugar) 1x a day and I think that has helped substantially. Today at work the cookie lady (hired henchman of the sugar demons, Hansel and Gretel's witch, actually a nice human but omg please stop bringing this shit to work) really went all-out. She made, I shit you not, pie and cake cookies. Apple pie, cherry pie (my personal fave), and German chocolate cake in cookie form. It was hard to ignore it, especially because I am a stone's throw away from where they sit (and I also cannot avoid seeing them every time I leave my cube) and got to hear people gushing about how good they are all.day.long. But I didn't give in, and I felt powerful as hell doing that. Secondary quest - Exercise 2x per week and daily walking My ankle's starting to get better. I took it easy all last week and went on my first 20 minute walk in a while today. It felt so good to walk again. It's a little grindy/sore now but I'll take it easy for the rest of the night. Hoping to keep up with at least walking every day for the rest of the challenge. I may not push beyond that until I feel like it's actually better. Secondary quest - Meditate for 5 minutes each day Have sucked at this over the last week, majorly. I get up in the morning and immediately start moving. I have deliberately not done it because I don't want to. I feel like that's worse than forgetting, even. I'm openly defying my own plans, lol. I still think meditation will be hugely valuable to my mental health if I can make a habit of it, so I'm thinking that I will try nightly meditation. If I'm already winding down for the night, I'll be much more likely to keep up with it. 3 Quote La esperanza del fénix puede abrirse camino a través de los cielos del desierto y aún desafiar el rencor de la fortuna; revivir de las cenizas y levantarse. I'm pretty similar. I grew up mostly vegetarian (only chicken and turkey when we did have meat) and was vegetarian for a few years as a teenager. Before I went back to veg 2.5 years ago I attempted the primal diet, I gave it three weeks and felt like shit the entire time. It definitely was not for me. I feel best eating a whole foods plant based diet. I'm not full vegan yet but I'm working on eliminating the last of the dairy. @MattSkywalker is also vegan.
