Shoobie's baby steps to greatness

Recommended Posts

For this first challenge, I won't pick a specific guild. I am still unsure of what my goals are other than losing weight and eating healthier. Do I want to get stronger? YES! Do I want to improve my endurance? HECK YEAH! Do I want to conquer my mind and find balance within me? OMG, YES PLEASE! But baby steps, Shoobie... baby steps!

With that being said, for now, I'm proudly a REBEL!

Here are my goals:

Goal #1

  • Eat healthy.

I get lazy a lot. When I get lazy I don't want to cook, so I order out. When I order out, it's always pizza or a HUGE burger with fries. That's obviously -not- healthy.

I am not following a set diet, but I do need to control my carbs and fat intake. Counting calories sends my anxiety over the edge so I will be logging the quality of the food rather than the quantity.

Goal #2

  • Drink water.

I will drink pretty much anything... except water. I always have a glass of juice, iced tea or soda by me... or coffee.. tons of coffee... but never water. I want to get into the habit of drinking at least 2 L of water daily. I mean, how hard can it be? It is always hot here in Brazil...

Goal #3

  • Complete my spreadsheet

I need to get in the habit of updating my spreadsheet daily.

  • Weight log once a day
  • Body measurements once a week
  • Food log and notes daily

Goal #4

  • Read a novel and a Science book

Over the years I haven't read as much as I used to or would like to. I have a HUGE line of books waiting to be read, calling my name. I have started reading the handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood today and will start Physics of the future by Michio Kaku. I am a fast reader, so I believe that if I read a little bit every day I will be able to finish both books in 4 weeks (well, 5 really)

You will notice there isn't an exercise goal. I will do that as I can, but because of health issues, I am not allowed to exercise at the present moment. Hopefully, that will change in a couple of weeks and for the next challenge, I'll be able to add an exercise goal!

I am starting this tomorrow, however, my birthday is on Thursday and I am going out with family and friends to celebrate it on Friday.  On Friday while out celebrating I won't be ona diet, the other goals I can still nail them tho ( I hope!)

What has been working for me recently is just recording my food intake but without any specific rules on what or how much.  I already know what healthy food looks like and how much is about enough, so as long as I am recording my intake I tend to keep myself accountable.

Also, following :)

I am totally in the "too lazy to cook" crowd a lot. One things that helps me is to do meal prep. It's a convenience factor. Like it is easy for me to go "Yeah, I want to eat something healthy, but I can have that lasagna done in 5 minutes" or whatever. I am lazy about meal prep too, but for now I will make things in batched. Like I made 7 chicken breast the other day, and I have salads that can be made quickly. It's boring, but when I want to eat something, it can be ready really fast.

I have also done a cook day. Like Sunday I would make a spaghetti (with spaghetti squash or zoodles), soup or chili in the slow cooker, then some third meal option. Then put in all in one meal like containers. Then I just pop in in the microwave and go.

You and me both sister!! I envy the people who can count calories, but I’ve found ways to work around it!

That’s a great idea to track the quality!

Have you thought of making juice water?

10% juice %90 water.

Ratio to your liking though! Even if it’s 50/50 you still have more water then usual!

On a hot day my favorite is cranberry juice splashed in my ice cold water!

I’ll do mango-peach juice for my kids (and myself!)

Oh! Welcome to the Rebellion!

i like your login name! Do you have a story behind it?

Hello @shoobie! Your goals look great because you're both pushing yourself and recognizing your limits and what works for you. Well done.

It makes me think of Rocket Power, a cartoon on Nickelodeon from the 90's.

Their nickname for anybody who wore shoes to the beach was "shoobies."

That's probably not it, though. :P

this method has worked for me 5 years ago before I fell off the wagon. To be able to look at what I have eaten and say: "wait, I ate carbs for lunch, maybe I should have greens for dinner" or "Yeah I'm really overdoing on bacon, maybe I should pick a leaner ptn". That sort of balance is what I want to have in my life again. I am hoping that getting in the habit of it I can actually change my eating habits for life. That's why I say I am not on a diet, my quest is simply to eat healthy. "Being on a diet" for me sounds like there's an end date... And long term I want to be able to indulge on a pizza or huge burger... but Balance it out with all other meals.

Yes... I have... but then I need sugar *LOL*

There's nothing wrong with water!! I need to learn that somehow!! I have a friend that says she doesn't drink water coz fish f**k in it. I caught myself using that excuse a while ago and then thought: REALLY SHOOBIE??? REALLY????

So I am thinking I just have to suck it up buttercup and chug it!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! LOVE IT!!!

Well here's the story: My name is Ursula. When I was a kid we lived in England and they pronounce my name differently from what Brazilians do. They say something like Ur-shoo-lah. My Grandmother started calling me Xú (which in Portuguese sounds the same as Shoo). Shoo has been my nickname since I was 2 years old. About 6 years ago a few online friends and I started an online radio station and both listeners and DJs started to derive Shoo into all different sorts of things: Shoobie, Shoobs, Shoobidoo, Scooby-Doo, you name it. I thought Shoobie was cute... so I started using it...

@Wolfen , you'll never see me wearing socks on the beach!! Flip flops and a Brazilian bikini for sure tho! :P Love feeling the sand with my feet!

I started the day well eating a tapioca. Not the pudding!!! I think it is a Brazilian thing... every time I tell ppl tapioca they think pudding! It's like a pancake... made with tapioca flour... gluten-free... tasteless... but not bad... ate it with a slice of cheese and ham... that gave it some taste at least!!

20180313_095410.thumb.jpg.9b887c6e5e2f462b0b867c96caa9c1ae.jpgI know it doesn't look appealing at all... but in all honesty, it ain't that bad :)

In Chinese Xu is also pronounced similarly to shoo (although in Taiwan it is often transliterated as Hsu instead of Xu). Fairly common last name over here.

This sounds like a great idea!!! My main issue so far (other than being a lazy-**s) is the fact that I live alone. Things go bad before I can get the chance of eating them. I've been doing some research regarding storage, things that can be frozen, all of that so I can try to overcome that. I'll the meal prep...Thanks for the tip!!!

Yay! New Challenge!

I'm also in the "can't count calories" party. It sends me down a dark path. I'm going to second (or third) batch cooking, especially if you are lazy (no judgement here though!). Most recipes make four servings, so you could cook every other day and get two dinners and two lunches out of every meal.

Have you tried putting fresh fruit in your water? I drink a ton of water anyway, but this is what I do if I want to mix it up.

That is not a bad idea! I usually freeze combination of fruits in ice trays (so they don't go bad -- can you tell I like variety?) right now I have pineapple + strawberry and orange + kiwi in the freezer... I usually just suck on them when it is too hot instead of buying a chocolate popsicle LOL

It's kinda what @Butternut suggested... I usually need sugar in those situations... but I'll give it a try for sure!

On a cuter note... My cat is trying to be helpful!

Hey!

Following close too. Nice goals. I'm part of the lazy party too. I get bored easily and I'm used to wandering a lot. My motivation sometimes is deadlines. The rush of losing everything on the last second gives me superhuman powers. Also, I figured out that, if I wait an extra 2 seconds before eating, my will is stronger to take better decisions.

Anyway, success in your challenge!

I get really bored with just water so what I do is I have some kind of unsweetened flavor (mostly Crystal Light or a generic equivalent) and will alternate one bottle of water with one bottle of flavored water.

I have to do this too.  It's fascinating how much MORE water per day I drink when it doesn't taste like..... water.  Highly recommended 'cause hydration is a goodthing. :D

Following to see you crush these goals!  And more cat pics!  And more FOOD pics!  (I agree that tapioca looks deliiiiicious~)

That’s so cool! A radio station?!? Do you still do it?

Chugging it helps.

Maybe chug one in the morning and one at night?

Theres an analogy I use with my kids. If I were cursed for the rest of my life to eat a frog everyday from now on, I would eat it first thing to get on with my day rather then cringing all day knowing I have to eat it.

So treat things you really don’t want to do as the frog, just get it done and over with! This is why my son is 13 and still eats his veggies first on his plate.

I am a humble procrastinator and this analogy gets a lot of my stuff done ^_^

The frog thing sounds like something I need to apply in other areas of my life as well! I am the queen procrastinator!!!

Image result for i have not yet begun to procrastinate

I still do the radio thing... We've been going for 6 years and change now. It's a small station, but it is cool!

Well let's go for day 1 update...

I could have eaten a better dinner... but it was left over and I hate wasting food. I have about 200mL of water left, but I am confident I can drink that before bed! If my headache allows I'll read some before bed :) I think today was alright... I mean, I could have done better, way better.... but... hopefully tomorrow I'll make better choices. I'm giving myself a 6 out of 10 for today. I usually do measurements on Mondays (even tho I did neglect that yesterday... maybe I'll do it tomorrow)

Does not compute :D

I love frog and Mi Vieja ordered some for dinner last night I was super tempted.  The only reason I didn't have some was because it was midnight and I was heading to bed.

Part of that time was spent in Rio. I smoked my first ever cigar on a hotel rooftop there. We did Corcovado and Sugarloaf, as well as Impanema and a few other things.

hahahahahahha!!!  My mom loves eating fried frog legs, they are really hard to find here tho... UGhh! I am a picky eater, but as a general rule, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and insects are off the menu for me! I suppose if I were lost in the middle of a forest or something I'd reconsider that statement...

Thank you! I've been seeing doctors and getting tests done to try to figure out what's wrong. It's probably just a hormonal imbalance (hopefully). Mainly what's going on is I've been bleeding for 40 days straight now with pretty much unbearable cramps. I am functioning on painkillers and my blood work has shown I am starting to get anemic. They don't want me exercising so the blood flow stops or doesn't get any worse (some of the tests can only be done when it does stop) and lifting heavy things while high on painkillers ain't a good idea if I may say so myself.

They suspect endometriosis, hormonal imbalance or it could be this myoma I have in there that is giving me grief. I am hoping for hormonal imbalance. I have told them that the answer is simple... that my uterus hates me and they should take it out... they don't believe me... they wanna dig further and for some reason my doctor believes I will change my mind and will wanna have kids someday... *sigh*
