HIGH FIVE!

Cool that you saw an eagle! That's really neat!

Also, I thought of you yesterday when I was sitting and eating spinach sans dressing out of the box. I came home at 22:30 from climbing and I was waaay too tired to cook or prepare anything except boiling some eggs. So spinach straight out of the box it was. :P

Haha awesome!

And yas, Eagles are all show and majesty!  Until they open their mouth! ;)     Most of the time, any 'bird of prey' in a movie is dubbed with the call of a red tail hawk because those guys sound freaking badass.     Ok,those guys ARE freaking badass.

Oh gosh gosh, now you got me all crazy (I love raptors sooo soo much.)    Speaking of size... look at the difference between the hawk and the eagle in that second pic, and then then...one of the coolest things I've done in my adult life...    The adult female bald eagle can weight 16lb!   That's like holding a bowling ball on your fist!

Week 2 Day 4: Thursday. Also, I was the only one at exercise party. WTF PEOPLE. he taught me how to kip. my grip is still whack. my hand pads feel really sore, like they're not 100% healed from my terror rip from 3 weeks ago even though the skin is fine. Or does this just hurt all the time? Be honest, friends, I just need to know. So, he told me how to use chalk! and when I was like: I've never used chalk before he was like: WHAT?! which is always hilarious. for the workout we did wall balls followed by probably pull-ups but he had me lie on my back and touch my toes to the wall behind me as high as I could. I did these 2 things in various gigantic quantities as fast as I could.

then I had to drive to long island, which is 60 miles / 2 hours away, for work. then back to NJ, then home to NY to teach TKD (which was good, just 3 students and my co-instructor and we practiced doing better kicks). and then home for ramen dinner and a beer and falling into bed.

Week 2 Day 5: Friday. YO I AM SO TIRED THIS WEEK YOU GUYS. Exercise party - again I was the only one there!!! we did a bunch of warmup things and then the workout was 20 10-m shuttle sprints, then 10 kettlebell deadlifts, then 20 10-m shuttle sprints, then 10 kettlebell floor presses. he had 8 reps written on the board but was like.... "this is an experiment, I want this to go for 15-20 minutes so we'll see how you do and I might knock a couple rounds off." I finished one round and he reduced the number of reps to FOUR. lolzlolzlolz. it was a lot of running. I didn't want to go too fast because it was just far enough that I couldn't *really* sprint. it sucked.

then I got home and realized that my entire body is so so so sore from yesterday and today. like, I can't laugh or cough right now. everything is required to be dour and healthy. NO BIG.

I'm looking forward to going home and lying on the couch. I need to figure out some better foods to eat - we had pizza for dinner monday, wednesday was japanese food out, thursday was ramen.... I think I need to tweak my diet a little to be less convenience foods like that (though this was in particular a rough week) and more better foods w less sugar and more protein.

Mine always kind of hurt. At least after a certain amount of time, you get that tender feeling. It doesn't really go away for me.

aaah ok. as long as I know that it's supposed to feel that way, I'm ok with it.

friday night I made a pumpkin soup, so halfway veggie pile? and then I impulse purchased a box of sweet potatoes from the grocery. um. wtf am I going to do with a box of sweet potatoes.

sigh.

Week 2 day 6 up for dojo sat. I was soooo tired and I'm not sleeping great b/c of work stress. class was really good though, we had a young young young student so we weren't balls out on the workout, and during a routine that was a jab cross / duck down and low hook, upper cut, then high hook, I realized that my legs and butt were AMAZING and it was so much easier to do those squatty moves about 10 million times. AWESOME.

I had to run a lot of errands on sat., but first I read a book, and then picked up milk from the farmer and then went to the grocery store and impulse purchased all kinds of weird things like weird discounted pork chop cuts and avocados and sweet potatoes and hummus and frozen pierogies. I had to phone home to get my husband to start dinner (reheated veg chili from the freezer) because I was clearly suffering from some kind of terrible hunger. Read another book, drank some beers, and went to sleep.

week 2 day 7 easter, and we drove an hour and met my mom for lunch. had a little walk around in the sun and home for another book and freezer potato leek soup.

WEEK 2 RECAP

but first:

<3 I DON'T DO IT FOR YOU. <3

* think about what my yard plan will be for the year. I didn't do this yet. I'm ok with it. you know, it's snowing today. like, 4-5 inches.

* keep going to the gym classes (average 4x/week). YES. I went 5x. including 2x I was the only sucker there.

* keep tracking food and thinking about what I'm eating. I ate a lot of food. I wrote all down. I had some lady pow - related fluctuations but also I think I need to stop eating so much sugar. I have had a bad couple of weeks with lots of treats.

figure out how to fit in running. I didn't figure this out. not one bit. I thought about it a little more. I can't imagine fitting it in right now, because I'm so busy at work.

week 3 day 1. today I learned how to back squat. we warmed up well, and then he had us looking for a 10x rep max, and I got up to 100 lbs with that. then he had us do 20x at a lower weight - mine was 70. I had a hard time with hinging forwards and had to really focus on keeping my chest up. also I had a hard time finding the right place for me to put the bar across my shoulders / back. like, normal first time issues, I think. also, I've mentioned that squatting is super tough for me. I literally give my butt a pep talk to convince it and hamstrings into moving in the correct direction and I hinge forwards a lot (probs mobility issues with hamstrings) -- I'm not even kidding. but they're getting better, and I'm working on it. I'm already so many millions of times better at squatting form than I used to be.

that said, my front hips are stiff and my back is a little stiff (it was stiff going into this, and it didn't hurt at all during, so I'm not concerned). I have an acupuncture appt this afternoon and I"m going to ask her to work on those things. I was planning to stay home today b/c the appt is at 2pm, and I'm glad because we had a surprise april storm and it's been snowing steadily all morning. I think we are at about 4-5 inches? it will all melt this afternoon, I'm sure. it's just april in ny.

oh and with respect to food choices, I've really appreciated this article:

http://www.grubstreet.com/2018/03/ultimate-conversation-on-healthy-eating-and-nutrition.html

NOTE TO SELF (WHO IS CURRENTLY EATING ALL OF THE REST OF THE ROBIN'S EGG CANDIES):

Quote

How would you define sugar “moderation”?
Limit processed foods; and don’t eat foods with added sugar unless they are a dessert. Look out for sugar added to pasta sauce, salad dressings, even salty snacks. Calories from added sugar should be less than 10 percent of your daily total, and ideally, less than 5 percent.

So much good info in here.  I've wondered the same about the added sugar.  I'm like, geez, I don't drink soda (at all) nor sweetened drinks (2 measured teaspoons of real sugar in my coffee, that's it) so shouldn't my sugars be not so terrible?   And yet when I've tracked on MFP nope.   Still high-ish.    But then it counts sugars from like your apples and stuff too, so what's good sugar what's not good sugar, omg!    So much fuss.

I also still love how you talk the same way I do 'front hip'  - heh, I told my chiro, my high rear left butt was sore...  she said it was my piriformis.   I said, yeah, left left butt!

Figuring out running and gardening when our springs are giving us the big middle finger seems impossible.    Maybe now is not the season for running!  You are doing the other stuff so so well girl!

yeah! I like thinking about "added sugar," too, because I really don't mind sugar (UNDERSTATEMENT) and I don't want to restrict myself out of nice desserty foods sometimes. that doesn't sound like a sustainable lifestyle for me.

week 3 day 2 REST DAY (kinda). I woke up this morning and my butt was SO SORE and my arms are sore too and I am really stressed about all the work I need to get done sooooo. I just got up early and came to work, instead of exercise party. I feel pretty good about this decision.

y'all, my butt.

tonight I have tkd which makes this a rest day kinda. I'll be moving, but it won't be super strenuous. I brought a jar of lettuce to put into my face for lunch, I feel really unprepared food-wise for the rest of the day but I'll make do with freezer lunch. I have a big deadline on friday that I'm kind of behind for and feeling pretty pressured about it, plus, you know, my regular job. WHELP LET'S GET IT.

week 3 day 3 yooooo I'm d.e.d. after exercise party this morning. it involved 2x of 60 american kb swings (which are overhead because Murica is just extra, I assume?) with a 35 lb kb and a bunch of ring rows and headstand pushups (which I do from a box) and jumping rope and WOW no high fives today, I'm sorry, I can't give anyone a hug, I can just stand around like an awkward penguin. it took me 20 minutes to finish because I got a little lightheaded at one point and then I do this thing where I work myself up and if I'm not careful I can hyperventilate just because, you know, panic I guess? so I took a lot of extra time to finish round 2 of KBs. also, I'm physically fatigued. I woke up tired. that didn't help at all. but I was SO THANKFUL I'd had a little bite to eat before I left the house!

other than that, though, everything is cool. We did active hangs again today in 3x 1 min rounds (with some other stuff of course mixed in) and I can hold for about 20-25 seconds, which is awesome, and I know it'll get better.

in other news, yesterday I tried not to eat all the cookies and chocolates and did better than previous days. also, I made this delicious dal when I got home from tkd (though I didn't have all the ingredients so I really was "following" the recipe) and it was so good. https://pipingpotcurry.com/dal-tadka-instant-pot/. I've been craving dal since we had some on our VT trip a couple of weeks ago. and with respect to work, I've managed to block off most of the day for working on that one thing that's due friday, so that's a helpful feeling.

whoa tho' my arms.
