2018 Changing Behaviors

 

I’ve always been a wants over needs type of person but have had a difficult time figuring out a way to change that. I just want to do everything now and feel silly taking it slow. Mentally, that’s what I want and I don’t want to wait to do anything. Physically, I put things off if I’m not sure how to do something or if it requires manual labor. 2018 is going to be about changing my behaviors. I want to have a good routine and strategy for overcoming my impulses. It’s time to start small and work my way up to the person I aspire to be.

 

To accomplish this task I need a clear and fairly simple plan. My challenges are rarely simple so this will be clear but probably not simple. I need knowledge to help create that plan. I’ll need motivation or motivational tools to help when things get tough. I also need to make sure I have a support system (Thanks Rebels :) ).

 

2018 Changing Behaviors Levels

 

LVL 1 - Organization - COMPLETE

LVL 2 - Night

LVL 3 - Morning

LVL 4 - Nutrition

LVL 5 - Movement

LVL 6 - Financial

LVL 7 - Knowledge

LVL 8 - Expression

LVL 9 - Self-Discipline

LVL 10 - Sustaining

 

Each Level will last approximately 1 challenge cycle (28 days). If I do not follow my plan or fail to achieve my desired goal, then I do not move up a level. These levels are meant to build upon previous challenges and continue the habits gained from the previous level. For example, when I reach level 6, I should still be doing what I did through levels 1 to 5.

 

The goal here is not to get as many points as possible but to develop the habit. If I end up skipping something or putting it off, I need to examine the reason why.

 

For Level 2 Goals : 

The purpose of this goal is to help me establish a healthy routine and help enable a good start for my morning routine, which will be my next level. If I can get my nightly routine established and set, I should be able to get enough sleep in order to give me enough time in the morning for the routine I want to have. This goal is going to be a daily checklist of things I need to have done before bed as well as by a certain time, they will also be super basic. You might ask, why the heck does she need to track that? Well I want to make sure I’m hitting all the tasks I need so you will be seeing tasks like, brush teeth and shower, even if I already do them on the regular. These tasks will be completed at night and will only earn me a check mark if they are done between 6-10pm. Goal for each task is 19.

Yay! I am also working on establishing an am/pm routine this challenge. It is something I know I really benefit from - I love knowing exactly what I am doing. But I also struggle to maintain it in the face of general life chaos. I have also been considering a goal of getting all my morning and evening things done before certain times.

Night routine! Yes! I've been improving mine slowly (such as adding in face moisturizing and being better about flossing) but boy does it take more time/mental thought than I expected. I love that you are putting a big focus on this for the next four weeks. :D

I've been here for 5 years and while I have developed better habits overall, I still fail with the actual mindset. I'm also lazy so that has not helped in the past.

It's amazing how much little things like that require such thought. I have the whole year to get to the person I want to be, so no rush. :)

So this week I've been having a cheat week which I think I'll continue during each challenge week break. I still do my daily cleaning and whatever cleaning I happen to do. 

 

Today I was sort of jittery all day. Decided to go home and pick up some gym clothes so I could go straight to the gym after work. Did 2 miles on the treadmill and did lots of reading.

Weird weekend. Started with an odd feeling of need to go to the gym. While I LIKE this feeling, it is strange for me. Did some reading after the gym and went to bed late. Sunday I woke up early because I was excited to use my Moviepass for the first time. Went and saw Annihilation, weird but interesting movie. Went home took a nap then went to hang out with my friend A. I told her I would hang out but we needed to go to the gym. Had that weird feeling again. Lol 

 

Sunday I woke up late in the morning with a slight headache Played some sims, watched some NCIS, watched my soccer team lose, then finished my book I started on Friday. I had some time to kill before bed so I started another book.

Monday, the first day of the challenge usually goes well. It did for me but I ended up getting into bed at 11:02pm so I JUST missed it. Lol. Got home and cleaned off the coffee table, vacuumed the living room, cleaned the inside and outside of the microwave and completed all of my Lvl 2 goals except the in bed before 11pm. I did a simple bujo layout for this week to figure out what days to do what cleaning. I have craft night this week so nothing labor intensive can happen on Wednesday. For unwinding, I read for way more than 30 mins, loving Lake Silence by Anne Bishop.

Tuesday was a wild ride. My supervisor put in her notice, the VP didn't like the way she did it or her attitude and told her to go to lunch and not come back. That was interesting. Then my sister sends me a text "Hey just so you know, I'm at the er." She had a mini stroke due to an artery split that caused a blood clot that traveled to her brain. The doctors told her it most likely happened due to the Chiropractor adjusting her neck. Fun day, she said with sarcasm. 

 

I was going to visit my sister after donating plasma but she had just had an MRI and was going to sleep. I did all my cleaning and did my Night Routine. Even forced myself to stop reading in order to go to bed at 11pm.

I'm not actually sure yet. She had an MRI last night and is supposed to have another one today. I heard from my step sister that she might have internal bleeding so they are going to keep my sister there longer. I tried reaching out to my sister and she said she was going back to sleep and would update us all when she heard back from the 2nd MRI. I'm just waiting on info. I've been updating my mom, since she and my sister don't talk anymore. Kind of hard to do that when I don't have enough information and I don't want to worry her too much until I do.

I don't think the work thing is anywhere near the level of the sister news. It was just a lot of changes happening in a small time frame and it threw me off. :)

Sister seems to be doing ok but is getting conflicting stuff from different doctors, so she is frustrated. Yesterday they thought she might have internal bleeding but it turns out it was just liquid that collected in her spine due to the high dose of the blood thinners they have her on. They adjusted the dose and it seems to be better but no one seems to want to acknowledge or talk about the bulging disks, which are causing a lot of pain. They won't give her pain meds so she is irritable. She lost feeling in both her legs and one arm yesterday but it came back, so not sure if that is because she has been bed ridden or something else. 

 

I did ask if they had a plan for her once she gets out, like does she have any restrictions. She can't eat leafy greens, because of the Vit. K and she has to stop smoking. Which will be incredible hard for her. That's the first good news I've heard from this whole thing. The second piece of good news is my mom and sister FINALLY talked. When my sister told me I thought she was playing a joke on me. They have not talked to each other in 4 years.  I hope they keep talking. She has been surrounded by people but I hope to get up and see her Thursday is she is still in the hospital. 

 

Wednesday afternoon I went to my book club's craft night and worked on some knitting. I got home late but was able to get everything I needed done for the challenge. Although I did not go to sleep before 11pm I was in bed before then. I also finished 2 books.

Read some of my Sandman Slim book Thursday during my plasma donation. After plasma I went home and took a nap after dinner. Well I didn't nap but I relaxed and watched The Office. I put away some items that I have been procrastinating on. Finished the night working on putting all my kindle books into collections, I still have like 300 to go. Got all my Lvl 2 goals done!

Thank you! Sister is doing good. She can't drive until she sees a Neurologist which is frustrating her. No help for the disk pain but they have her on blood thinners. No idea why they won't treat the pain. I asked her if she needed help this weekend but she has all her rides to and from appointments covered. 

 

I ended up seeing 3 movies this weekend, thank you moviepass! Saw Tomb Raider on Friday, which I highly enjoyed. Red Sparrow on Saturday which was good acting and an ok movie. I think I expected more action and there was not a lot. I also saw Love, Simon on Sunday and it was amazing. Such a cute and sweet love story. I also read 2 books, did some cleaning, and hung out with my friend on Sunday.

Sister can now drive! I saw her yesterday and she seems to be doing well. Just not loving the injections she has to give herself. 

 

No idea what I did this past week but I think I chipped my tooth and now all my teeth are sensitive. I need to find a new dentist but just the thought of going gives me a panic attack. Never had a bad dentist but hate the procedures. 

 

Also I might have to change up some of my nightly goals at least until I can find a good moisturizer for my hands. My daily showers have wrecked havoc on my hand and my eczema. Last week was rough.

ack, eczema can be so brutal, especially on hand joints. is it gross of me to ask: do you need daily showers?

it's true! so relaxing! what about adding an oil to your shower routine to lock in that moisture? I'm not an eczema expert by any means, but I've loved people with pretty rough cases of eczema in the past, I know what a struggle it can be to get the right care routine figured out!
