It's competition season! And I'm going to be focused on staying cool and collected like a regal badass, always prepared and always dedicated. This challenge lines up directly with gymnastics Nationals, as we are going to be competing on April 13. I'll be out of town for 3/22-3/27 and then again for 4/12-4/15, but the rest of the time, I'll be around ruling my kingdom with grace. 

 

Rule with an Iron Fist

*Don't skip accessories for lifting workouts

 

Beam Queen

*Balance beam routines every gymnastics practice

*Back handsprings on the high beam 4x

 

Luxurious Produce

*Eat heaps of leafy greens 5x per week

 

Supreme and Serene 

*Do some yoga every damn day: no time requirement, can be just a few asanas

*Work on balance poses 4x over challenge, preferably with some flows (it's been a while!)

 

Bonus Quest: 

*Bake kouign amann the weekend of March 31-April 1

Day 0.3

GETTING STRONGERRRR EVERY DAMN DAY. It feels like it's been a long time since I've been able to be like "yep, see, I am getting stronger now" so the past few weeks are just the coooolest and will probably keep getting cooler cause those weights are gonna keep going up. Did I tell you guys that I misloaded my bar for bench on Monday and accidentally lifted tried to do 150# for 3 instead of 140#? I made a single and went "wow that was really hard, but I guess I'll try again in a few minutes." Then I tried again and got another rep, a second rep with almost no spot, and a third rep with more assistance. I was bummed because 140# for three should have been FINE, but once I started unloading the bar, I was like "...oh. OH!" Accidental PR life~ 

 

But yeah, here's yesterday's workout.

I'm not sure when I am going to fully start counting the ticker on the challenge parts... I guess I could start today/tomorrow? Here's the tracker set-up for the challenge: 

Accessories:  1/1

Beam:  0 routines, 0/4 high beam back handspring days

Leafy greens: 1/5

Yoga: 0 day streak, 0/4 balancing sessions

Kouign amann: not yet

 

My plan for the rest of the week:

Thurs - gymnastics

Fri - lifting (and lifting bday party situation at the gym for two peeps)

Sat - light gymnastics practice + St. Paddy's party (but taking it easy with the plan not to drink a ton because Sunday is meet day)

Sun - MEET DAY

Ahahah, totally. I spend a lot of time tricking myself at gymnastics, so it makes sense it'd work for lifting too. 

 

Day 0.4

For the Wednesday update, I neglected to mention that I got some drinks and was out pretty late. I felt find at work but by the time practice rolled around at 7pm, I was very much in a whiny mood. That said, I got it together and had an okay practice anyway. A judge last Sunday had a question/concern about my current leap pass and whether or not it meets the requirements -- it turns out that it does, but I am going to move one of the skills to a different part of the routine anyway just because I don't want to deal with judge inquiries and things at Nationals. With that in mind, I practiced the new leap pass and also practiced going into my other series without the leap that I am moving, just to see how it feels and start drilling it so that I don't mess up the new order in my routine. I think it'll be a good change in general, but it does take a bit of time to stick mentally. 

 

I did a couple double salto passes and a good amount of front handspring + front layouts because I'm thinking about trying that for my last pass on Sunday (and at Nationals). It should be doable and looks a lot harder/cooler, IMO, so maybe I'd get some cool points added to my score. :P I did the tiniest bit of uneven bars (mostly just a couple of things on the high bar). My hands were threatening to rip, so I left that event pretty fast. Finished up with beam routines -- 1 okay, 1 good, and 1 terrible, haha.

Day 0.5

Went to yoga class during lunch, which had a lot of side body stretching and felt lovely. My workout after work was:

Easy peasy. 

 

Day 0.6

Low key gymnastics practice. Light on tumbling, but did some nice front handspring front layouts. The rest of the practice I was on beam and did my routines and a few back handsprings, but only on the beam with all the mats, not the one with fewer. Ended with PT for my ankles and some stretching. 

 

Day 0.7

Last meet before Nationals in April. I competed bars, beam, and floor. Floor went pretty well and I wound up tying for 3rd place with a 9.2. I have some things I really want to clean up before Nationals (my leaps look SO LAZY in my routine), but in general I am pretty happy with it. I went off-center on my acro series on balance beam and wound up falling in a valiant effort to connect the series for series credit. She did not give me the credit. Hahah.

 

Uneven bars was kind of a mess this time because I mis-gripped the high bar on the transition and had to take an extra swing. It threw me off enough that I did a totally different high bar section of my routine... it's fine. We're fine. :P 

 

Accessories:  2/2

Beam:  3/3 routines, 0/4 high beam back handspring days

Leafy greens: 4/5

Yoga: 3 day streak, 0/4 balancing sessions

Kouign amann: not yet

 

Monday: gymnastics or lifting... or rest.
Tuesday: lift
Wednesday: lift if I can get it in before my blood donation scheduled for 7pm.

Thursday: yoga balancing session + FLY TO LONDON

 

I DO NOT KNOW. My body feels tired, man. I maybe also was up late Saturday and Sunday nights and am a bit sleep deprived... and I've been drinking a LOT OF BEER lately. I think I went out Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday. Woof.

 

BUT I am also about to go on vacation, where I probably won't work out much... Things to ponder.
