Diadhuit

Diadhuit's new life

Recommended Posts

I had been defeated in last challenge (Diadhuit takes it easy) because it was trying to do too much (ironically different from the title!). My takeaway is that I love doing many things, and sometimes it's because I need to be more social, sometimes it's because I like experiencing and opening my mind, ans sometimes is to run from me.

This challenge is not going to be any better on the todo but at least I have few days off from work.

In the last challenge I adopted a calendar where I put food/mind/exercise/event to organise the week and I think it worked well, but I got the tendency to fill it up.

This challenge I want to continue using that technique, but I need to put at least one "no event" day from after Easter.

Also Easter happens this challenge and it's time to resurrect!!

I think I'm getting better at mind and soul, but I left behind food and exercise lately.

Things I'm already kind of doing:

Walking an average of 5/6 km per day, but want to do arrive in Rivendell this challenge so I better hurry up! - Improvement: walk more and stretch before!

Exercising on Wednesday (meditative dance), Thursday (pilates), Saturday (running) and Sunday (dancing) - Improvement: Bring anywhere abs to work and do it in the loo on Mon / Wed / Fri

Praying each day (PAYG and examen), lectio and mass on Sunday, meditative dance on Wednesday, prayer journal - Improvement: commit more on examen

Meditating each day (morning affirmation, lunchtime may I be well, evening formal if I don't fall asleep!) - Improvement: go further with the course

Use bullet journal and find time to remove things - Improvement: actually remove things!

Food:

Organise the lunch in the journal

Schedule shopping in calendar

Prepare breakfast

Prepare lunch weekly

Always have 15g of nuts at work

Eat seated at a table.

One off: organise Easter lunch

Exercise:

Daily dare each day

PT each day (cat-cow, plank, warrior pose)

One off: balfolk workshow

Mindfulness:

mbsr formal meditation every day and continue with the weeks

Reminder: before starting breathe out as much as possible and then relax the muscles 3 times

One off: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/hwansan-sunim/how-to-meditate-at-work_b_6630652.html

Prayer:

Examen steps:

left 1) Ask God to be present and to guide me

left 2) Think of the best moment of the day, feel it and thank God for it

right 1) Think of people, places and things done, search for God's presence

right 2) Where was I more open to the unexpected?

right 3) Were there moments in which I turned away from God? (note: do not ruminate on this)

right 4) Was there space for kindness to myself or others today?

left 3) Make a resolution for tomorrow. Do I need something from God for this? Ask

left 4) Glory be

One off: easter retreat

Thank you!
I kind of went poof as well last challenge.

Today I had a big win: I went nerd heaven! There is a place in town, a kind of cafe that you pay by the hour, not what you have. They had sober patrick's day festival (yes, in Dublin city centre!) and I played so many games, I laughed so hard I got a headache! I can't remember when it was the last time this happened to me.
I see it as a good start for this challenge :)

That sounds very fun! Never heard of a cafe like that but I went to a cool one in Greece where you buy the alcohol and the food comes with it for free. Not so great when you're a hungry lightweight like me!

Glad you had a good time, I hope you can take it easy in this challenge! :)

It looks I need to be more open to unexpected...
Tonight my flatmate came home at around 2 with friends for a St Paddy's afterparty. I was trying to sleep but too cold to do so.
Also, what was supposed to be a second thread of snow, but this time would melt, turned out to be an orange warning nationwide. That means the run I planned tomorrow won't happen, and it makes it 3weeks I won't run!
That's not ok to me, any suggestion on wht to do to stay active in snowstorms? I have only my bedroom to exercise...

I think a couple of us went. Lets just not talk about it and pretend it never happened.

Okay, that sounds awesome. I kinda wish I lived near you even more now.

Dooh on the snowstorm. Could you do some body weight exercises? Hopefully it melts off soon.

I wish so too! Come visit me and I'll show you around! Be prepared to walk as today the snow nearly melted and I went for a 9k walk in the park just for a quick moment.

Now cinema and if I have time later I might try https://darebee.com/workouts/princess-workout.html
No promises though!

Overall a good day. Work was struggling but I got encouragement. They made me work on a difficult thing that is not my field so I reached the limit of my knowledge but got help from a colleague.
Then I met my spiritual director and done a month retrospective. There are some things about me that are coming up, like vulnerability, identity, life goals, my role in the church. I don't know where it leads me, but I think that it is suggesting I try for a promotion at work. I'll still need to refine before taking a decision though.

glad you had a good day overall. Hopefully things continue to go well.

And good luck with the hunger thing. Maybe I should try the intuitive eating. The problem is whenever its family meal time, that's time to eat, if I am hungry or not.

The boiled egg at work seemed a success. I was full of energy and went for a walk with a friend after work. In total I walked 45m in the morning, 20 at lunchtime, and 1.5 - 2h in the evening. I arrived home with the idea of doing so much, but instead I ate even if I was not hungry (at least I chose cottage cheese, fish, nuts and brown bread)... I think I was thirsty but didn't drink much. Or maybe it was that I had a full workday... but I didn't feel stressed or sad, so at least it was not eating for emotions!
Also, lately I crave for cheese, nuts, meat and fish, I can't have enough... Any ideas?
Then, I fell asleep half ready for bed and didn't do half of the things I wanted.

I think it mostly can work for me as I am on my own. And for now I am not convinced, as it looks I'm eating a lot in the last few monthr and don't know why. It has been emotional, but is not right now...
I still keep a bit of the diet mentality, could it be it?
If you want to give it a go, I would reccomend having snacks on hand (if I remember you are one that waits long before eating) and honour your hunger. That means be courious and feel the hunger. Thing that I am very struggling with!
Then, discover your satisfaction factor at dinner with the family and if you reach fullness you can stop eating even if the plate is not empty. :) easy to say, so hard to do!

These are great tips. This could work, I don't feel hungry often, so I am unsure if it would help fix some issues or not.

Good luck with it tho.

That is a very wise statement. You certainly have a lot of things going on for this challenge.

I appreciate seeing your "Prayer" category. Big fan of PAYG! Have a blessed Holy Week.

So yesterday all went fine, I would define it a grey day... nothing particular happened.
I am eating a lot in the evening, still not sure why.
Went for drinks with work colleagues, then to a friend's play, then with drinks again. And while I don't drink alcohol, it used a lot of my time and I was wrecked when I arrived home. I am still not rested today, but all the rest is good :)

Haha, thanks.
I always have a lot going on, the trick is finding balance, and it's not always easy.
Especially near Easter, when my 'todo' list involves way more than I can handle between celebrations, organising celebrations, organising Easter lunch and trying not to give up on the rest :) sometimes it feels that is busy instead of prayerful!

But I suppose I can't complain to you, as you have way more on your plate!

I love PAYG expecially as my commute is a walk :) I remember you doing a centering prayer last challenge. Did you use an app?

Do you perhaps do the examen too? I got bored of the PAYG one, and doing it on my own, but it's a bit of hit and miss :)

I think you did okay overall considering how busy things were. The point here is that we don't want to give up all the other parts of our lives while we get healthy, so I think you did a great job balancing and while it wasn't a great day, it wasn't a I give up day either. so take that as a win.

TGWF! And I went to a party!
Came back too late to do lots of things...

Exercising every day - yay!

Remove things from bullet journal - N/A

Food:

Always have 15g of nuts at work - I had them ready and forgot them home
Eat seated at a table. - yep! Beside a quick fridge raid
Intuitive eating - I ate for socialising, but I also rejected the diet mentality having a tiny bit Grappa (70% alcohol) because I felt like it, even if I don't drink.

One off: organise Easter lunch - wip - I have invited too many people O_o I hope there is enough space at home for all :)

Exercise:
Daily dare each day - nope!
PT each day (cat-cow, plank, warrior pose) - nope!
One off: balfolk workshow - tonight!!

Mindfulness:

Prayer:
Examen - nope!
One off: easter retreat - still pending, I get quite upset when I'm asked to do things, offer time slots to help and I receive... not even an answer.
Things developed this way: last year we organised one last minute and went very well. This year they asked me if we were doing another, I asked the priest, he said yes. He invited me to the liturgical group (and he knows it's not for me!) but I couldn't go. At that they didn't discuss it, so when I asked him about he gave me tasks to do (and I hate being the to-do person with no decisional power). I didn't even have the whole info, not even which day is it on! I did all that at my best, when I asked for info I received none. I doubled the work to do both, sent him both a text and an email and received no answer. This really tips me off!
I know that Easter is busier for him than me, and that managing a both conservative and liberal parish is a work of balance and that it is taking the toll on him in the form of strong migraines. At the same time the term 'something has changed in the air' is something I hear over and over, and we used to be friends, but he is keeping distance (ah, men, difficult times, not showing vulnerability,... the stereotype fits perfectly here!)
I know that I am blaming him because I struggle in finding my place in the Catholic Church (female, single and no nun here) and I know I 'should' have gone to the liturgy group, but beside time, that is something I am not driven to by God, so I really need to keep apart. I can't hear one more person not listening to me because of my gender or I'll explode! Sorry, rant over :)

Your momentum is speeding up! Don't slow down!
I read this yesterday, when I was debating if going to run today or not.
In favour: I haven't been running since 3w
Against: today I have the dancing workshop and my calfs are tight!

But the training app says run 5m at the beginning and 15m at the end so I think I can make it. Will sit all afternoon though!
Thanks for the encouragement

Let us know how the run goes. I think you got it.
As soon as I was going for the run my ankle started to be in pain, I was about to call it but then it stopped. So run (and walked) 6km! Yay! And in total I did 11km today.
The dancing went well too, I barely sit between 6 and 11.30. I lost shoes, got dizzy, and survived.
I also might be going for a date, or maybe not? He asked my details, I said 'yes, you'll have to give me some info about a group we talked about' and he said: 'yes and we might go out to talk about... work'.
Oh, well, maybe it is not a date, but he seemed flirting.

Btw, now my feet sole hurt, and tomorrow I'm going for a 2h walk (on top of my usual walking around) and I'll get little sleep as the clock changes tonight... wish me luck :)

Recap for today will follow.
