Wolfman Respawns (Again)

INTRODUCTION

 

Husband.  Dad.  Lycanthrope.

 

I'm a long time rebel who did really well for awhile, but fell off the wagon when I ran into some health issues.  You know those people who face adversity and thrive?  Yeah, that wasn't me.  I tried to respawn a couple years back, but quickly lost steam.  Hoping for a different result this time around.  Going to keep my goals small and build some positive momentum.

 

QUEST

 

My first quest is to lose 30 pounds.

 

BABY STEPS CHALLENGE GOALS

 

  1. Eat a fruit or veggie with every meal. +25 XP
    I have a bad habit of only paying attention to the calories in food and not the nutrients (or lack thereof).  While that may work for weight loss, it doesn't for overall health.  I don't want to just LOOK better; I want to FEEL better too.
     
  2. Limit myself to two diet sodas or less per day. +25 XP
    I replaced the soda habit with a diet soda habit.  Now I'd like to reduce how much diet soda I drink and replace it with good, old fashioned water.
     
  3. Get in bed and turn lights out by 11 pm. +25 XP
    I love to stay up late, and I love to read, play games on the iPad, and surf the Internet when the house is dark and quiet.  I have to be up early in the morning to make breakfast and get the kiddo off to school, though, which means I never get enough sleep.  I'm currently getting up at 6 am.  Going to bed at 11 pm nets me 7 hours of sleep (give or take).  I'd like to increase that long term, but I think 11 pm is a good place to start.
     
  4. Complete five Spanish Duolingo lessons per week. +25 XP
    My son and wife are both bilingual.  I am not.  Time to learn more than "¿Cerveza, por favor?"

Haha, as the bilingual child to a non-spanish speaking dad I love that you're trying to improve at the language! I think its great that you are going to make an effort to eat a fruit or veggie at every meal, and its definitely a great mindset step. What are some fruits and vegetables you like? I should probably try to eat more veggies too....Best of luck!

Thanks!  I'm actually not very picky about fruit and veggies.  I like just about everything (and love discovering new flavors!).  I just tried dragon fruit for the first time... definitely not my favorite (tastes sort of like sweet okra/dirt :D) but it looks really cool!

I'm going to try and check in with my progress every day for accountability.  That 11 pm bedtime is gonna be trouble; I can tell.

 

Monday

  1. Veggies = Yup
  2. Soda = Yup
  3. Bedtime = Nope
  4. Spanish = Yup

Tuesday

  1. Veggies = Nope
  2. Soda = Yup
  3. Bedtime = Nope
  4. Spanish = Yup

Wolfman, I've got the same problem with bedtime. I'm naturally more of a night owl, and I'm trying to make myself hit the hay at 10:30... pshaw right. :/ What are you doing to try to help with going to bed earlier?

 

Love your goals. I'm doing Duolingo German so I can understand more of what's happening around me on my upcoming trip. I intend to stick with it after the trip as well. Languages are awesome.

Sometimes when I MUST get to bed early, I set something annoying to beep at me one hour before bedtime. This triggers me to wind down, stop what I'm doing, and start the bedtime routine. It's the worst feeling when bedtime comes and I haven't started the process...because I know it will be another hour before I get my act together.

 

You're killing the rest of it, though! Good luck!

Absolutely nothing, and it shows!  I haven't met my goal yet.  Doh!

An alarm is a great idea!  Much harder to ignore than the clock.

This week was a doozy.  Definitely need to work harder on both my sleep and veggie goals.  Soda and Spanish are coming along really well, however.

 

Week 1

  1. Veggies = 2/7
  2. Soda = 7/7
  3. Bedtime = 0/7
  4. Spanish = 4/5
