vibrantnotions
I have been MIA on NerdFitness for quite some time. A few days ago I got a random bug to plan an introvert adventure. Some where nature like. Alone. As I've fleshed this idea out I'm leaning towards a rustic (hike in!) cabin, or maybe camping + hiking. This kind of trip would require some training and planning. I'm kind of out of shape and have never done anything like this before. A four week challenge is perfect for getting me started on prepping for my adventure. Move your feet I will go on a walk once a day. It can be long or short - just so long as I do it. Condition/Endurance Twice a week I will do some combination of: run/walk intervals, hiking, or rucking (bad weather sub: rowing machine) Strength Training Twice a week I will strength train: weights at gym, body weight at home, or rucking. I can't count the same rucking session for both Condition/Endurance and Strength Training. Life Goal: Plan the Adventure Pick a date and location, make a plan of what to do while I'm out adventuring, figure out what gear and supplies I'll need & make a packing and shopping list. Let the adventure prep begin! Edited to Add: I have some on going self improvement projects that I didn't include as part of this challenge, but still want to update on! 100 days of Fiddle/Violin Practice Any length practice so long as I do it, can be fiddle music or classical music. Sick and travel day contingency plan: listen to pieces currently working on, or use a music theory app to do some music theory study. Read 24 books in 2018 Pretty self explanatory! I'm going to at least partially work through Book Riot's Read Harder challenge to help expand my reading choices. 7 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment
TGP
if you intend to survival- lize it like just head out with a knife; a few matches and some skills - there is quite a few inspiring vids about that. is that your thing or are you meaning more of a backpacking trip? (I have thought about doing the survival kind of trip and so far; well I have a pretty set of adventures already planned, but someday! yes!) ... I guess with your emphasis on rucking that its leaning more towards backpacking. thats cool! you'll still want to start working on gearing up and ... don't do what I did the first time I tried that. don't make it too heavy!! Trust me you'll regret it. the lighter the better! do you know where and when you'll go? getting that stuff figured out early helps making it real and motivating you to work daily at your goal. 1 Quote https://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/116426-im-awake/ the "NEW" normal is good with me! as Life was Never really Normal anyways.... ladymorella
That sounds awesome. I did my first backpacking trip about a year and half ago. It was a great experience. I ended up going alone and it was just what I needed. I would be horribly bad at the surivival-lize it. Probably more of a backpacking type trip. There are some great hike in only cabins - it would give me some of the backpacking feel but I wouldn't need as big of a pack or all the gear (which I have NONE of). 21 hours ago, Elastigirl said: Sounds like a fun adventure. I've also considered hitting up one of the state parks or a national park. 9 hours ago, ladymorella said: That sounds awesome. I did my first backpacking trip about a year and half ago. If I like it I'm considering making it a yearly (or maybe even twice a year) tradition. Week is going well so far. I've gotten my walks in. I've rucked twice. I'll have to cram something in on saturday and sunday so I can meet all my goals for the week. 2 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment

I have heard of those hike in cabins. That is probably the way to go for you. Buying all the gear is why I put it off for so long. It ended up a friend and I planned a backpacking trip so I bought most of the equipment except the couple things she had which we could share. It ended up we switched it to a camping trip after I bought everything. Worked out well otherwise I probably never would have bought anything. 2 Quote 18.10 |18.6 | 18.5 | 18.4 | 18.3 | 18.2 | 18.1 | 16.2 | 16.1 | My Character Lean out: 4lbs / 70lbs - - - - - - - - - - Link to comment

vibrantnotions
Yesterday I was not feeling it. It was cold. It was pouring rain. I didn't want to do anything or go anywhere. I did a short body weight workout (squats and core) and headed out for a very short walk. My very short walk turned into my normal short walk I squeeze in on my lunch during work days. It wasn't much but it was a heck of a lot more than the nothing I wanted to do. Today I think it will be a run/walk interval. I wanted to go for a quick hike on one of the small in city trails, but with all the rain yesterday I'm sure the trails are in a sad state. I could deal with the mud but don't want to contribute to trail damage. This day last year I was in the smoky mountains. <3 <3 <3 I want to go back someday! 3 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment

You're making the habit to leave the house, which in my personal experience, is the hardest habit to form. But keep going and it'll become second nature. An all or nothing approach has really been a major downfall for me in the past. "Well if I can't XYZ, why even do X?". I didn't include it in this challenge because it's already on going - but I've been doing a 100 day project to practice violin/fiddle daily and t's been helpful in getting over the "all or nothing" mindset hump. 3 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment

vibrantnotions
Thanks MattSkywalker! First week: 100%! I'm stalling on the life quest portion a bit. I've narrowed down some location options but the final selection will be somewhat date dependent. I'm mid department switch at work and want to be fully switch before I request time off, and my nieces graduation date isn't set yet and will be in the same general time frame I'm wanting to go. Once the graduation date is set I should be able to pick a weekend and a location! 3 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment
vibrantnotions
I was thinking last night I should include my other projects I'm working actively working on! Adding them to my initial post as well. They are: 100 days straight of practice on fiddle/violin - l'm at 33 days currently - today will mark 34! Read 24 books in 2018 - I haven't finished a dang one, so I'm a bit "behind". I'm ALMOST done with Love in the time of Cholera. I'm enjoying it but it's a very slow read for me. I'm also part of the way through Wrinkle in Time because I needed an easier read on the side. 3 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment

vibrantnotions
Alright, last week was rough. I was feeling really run down and exhausted and wasn't sleeping well on top of it. Not sure if I was fighting off a sick, stress, or time of the month. Feeling better now though! Last weeks recap: Move your feet: 5 out of 7 days Endurance: 1 out of 2 days Strength: 0 out of 2 Life Goal: Still on hold on date selection - which holds everything else up Non challenge projects: 24 books in 2018: Finished one! Love in the Time of Cholera is complete, and I'm about halfway through Wrinkle in Time. Not sure what I'll read next but I've already got a few books on my shelf lined up for Book Riots Read Harder Challenge - so I'll probably pick one of those Fiddle Streak: 41 days and counting! Today I got a good ruck in! I like rucks best because they can count for endurance or strength - much more flexible if my week goes nuts on me. 4 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment

vibrantnotions
Got another ruck in today! So I have 4 days left to get in two more strength/endurance workouts. Super tired yesterday and today but this week I think it's that I switched work schedules and have to get up quite a bit earlier. Finished Wrinkle in Time yesterday and started Go Set a Watchman today. 2 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment

vibrantnotions
Got a bit behind in my nerdfitness posting! These four week challenges go FAST. I remember the six week challenges felt like they lasted forever. Third Week Move your feet: 7 out of 7 days Endurance: 2 out of 2 days Strength: 1 out of 2 Life Goal: Still on hold on date selection - which holds everything else up Fourth and Final Week: Move your feet: 7 out of 7 days Endurance: 2 out of 2 days Strength: 2 out of 2 Life Goal: I picked a date! Waiting to get approval from work. Final Grading Move your feet: 26/28 = 92% Endurance: 7/8 = 88% Strength: 5/8 = 63% Life Goal: A for effort. Some unforeseen life changes and scheduling complications made it difficult to plan because many of my plans circled around dates. I DID pick a date and am waiting on approval from work off. I also have lists of meal ideas, and did some general research. I feel like I did as much as I could give the circumstances. Other life projects: Fiddle practice: 55 day streak! I'm 55% of the way to my 100 day goal. 24 books in 2018: 2 books completed for the year. I'm on the last quarter of Go Set a Watchman. 1 Quote Pixie Warrior I aim to misbehave My NF Character, My Current Challenge Link to comment
