courtniemarie puts one foot in front of the other

taking this challenge one step at a time. just returned from a 5-day trip to Austin during sxsw for our bachelorette and i'm liking the idea of daily goals for now.

 

i'd like to get back to the gym for some squats and deadlifts. my shoulder has been bothering me for the past month and my sister (studying to be a DO) thinks it's subscapular tendonitis. it's definitely feeling better after some hard rest but i'd rather not push it quite yet.

 

yoga will play a part too, plank to down dog still bothers the shoulder a bit so i'll be modifying as it feels necessary.

 

i like trying to eat my own food that I bring to work before any free food that might be available in the work kitchen. i'd also like to get back to planning weekend meals, even if the plan is to go out. i'm also going to try and keep recognizing my hunger/full levels on a 1-10 type scale.

 

here's what i'm working with so far this challenge:

3/23: drinks with friends

3/24: bday bfast for brother and stepdad

3/25: 5K

3/28: work outing

3/31: book club drinks

4/6: drinks with friends

4/12 – 4/15: back to Austin for a wedding

OH HAIIII EVERYONE! yeah, starting the challenge late this round, but it's all good. getting back into the swing of things. SO is still in Austin for work so schedule and chores are a bit different than the norm still.

 

Week 1 – Wednesday

 

I did a 26min yoga with adriene video to ease myself back into morning movement and so i could sleep in a bit.

 

ate all my own snacks at work. cooked up a big batch of lentil soup when I got home and then ate too much of it in one sitting.

lentil soup is awesome. i had it for dinner again last night and added some baby spinach for dem greens. does normal lentil soup always have spicy sausage in it tho? bc that's how i make it and i'll never go back.

Week 1 – Thursday

 

yesterday morning I did a random pilates workout for 20 minutes, abs were definitely sore!

 

it was fairly snowy but not enough to stay home. I did end up eating a half donut around 3pm, I want to say? which was before I had finished all of my own snacks. but I’m pleased with how I felt and I didn’t overeat at dinner. got the meals planned for the weekend and put stuff on the grocery list that we’d need.

 

got the laundry washed and in the dryer, still need to dry it.

 

also got 8 hrs of sleep! \o/

Week 1 – Friday

 

did a 34 minute HIIT/strength fitness blender video with help from my dog who is just the most adorbs, guys. the 5K is definitely going to be struggle bus city though with how much I huffed.

 

there were donut holes in the work kitchen today, seriously, who is doing this?? I ate my own food all morning and then had 3 munchkins before getting to my carrots and quest bar. did I tell you I got a WHOLE BOX OF QUEST BARS FOR FREE IN AUSTIN?

 

well I did. and a bunch of the people we were with also did. so much free swag y’all. If you ever want to do sxsw, buy your plane and hotel stuff REALLY EARLY (we got our hotel rooms for $500 less than their nightly rate by the time March rolled around). then don’t buy anything. pack your comfy shoes and go git urself some free swag.

ANYWAY i have now eaten all my own food and then had 2 oatmeal no-bake cookies a coworker made. much noms. off to eat some brussel sprouts at home (always getting in that fiber, folks) before heading to have a beer with a few friends!

wahhhhh! that is so sad. and also probably why i had some serious gas this weekend :lol: i've read that there are ways to heal the gut to be able to handle beans without all the nonsense. things like digestive enzymes are supposed to help too (beano is basically just a digestive enzyme)

 

Week 1 – Saturday

 

went out to bfast with the fam in the morning and then went to visit my grandfather in the nursing home. that and wanting to go to the march kept us from doing our typical Saturday morning chores/workout. but we consciously did a lot of walking. fiber intake wasn’t too terrible for being out and about all day.

 

fiber: 22/25

 

afterwards we had dinner at our friends place while watching the princess bride which one of our friends had never seen! <3 <3 <3

Week 1 – Sunday

 

we bailed on our 5K. we weren’t feeling great in the morning and made the executive decision to sleep in. it was the right decision. woke up did our grocery shopping and went to the gym. I ended up running 3.2 miles on the treadmill at 0.5% incline in 37 minutes. not too shabby. then I did a couple sets of goblet squats and some ab work.

 

I ate my bfast leftovers from the day before while we went through our received rsvps and updated our spreadsheet. we took some zicam to help stave off more cold symptoms and cooked up breakfasts for the week.

 

afternoon/evening plans changed a bit and we ended up going out for mexican which was delicious and some well-deserved alone time for the two of us.

 

fiber: 33/25

 

we picked up the pup from my moms and went home to watch a movie which ended up being a Netflix original, When We First Met. super cute and pretty funny.

so! week 1 is over and was short for me (started on wednesday).  got in 4 workouts but also went out to eat 3 times. BUT kept my fiber up which my body really needs. still, a pretty good week back into reality.

the bail-guilt was REAL

 

but in reality, i had planned to just do a mile and then weights but i was jamming out and felt great! cardio rarity so i took advantage.

lentil soup can have pretty much anything you want in it, I think that's part of what makes it so magical. ;)

I have also read, and I could just be making this up, that the more you eat legumes the more your body adjusts. I read that back when I was a vegan/vegetarian though, so take that with a grain of 2006 internet salt.

IKR?!?! one of our good friends too! we're likely using Vitamin String's rendition of the theme in our wedding so we forced him to watch it :D
