Assassins: Rules, Goal Setting, and General Chat Thread!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

First, welcome to the challenge. If you haven't read the rules yet, they can be found here:

Use this thread to:

  • Discuss your goals
  • Meet your co-challengers
  • Discuss how you're going to beat the other guilds and have the final winner be an Assassin
  • Chat about random things

You are Assassins, so your guild leaders are Ryan Sannar and Nuke The Unicorns

[h=2]Assassin[/h]To assassins, the world is one giant playground. Every building can be climbed, every gap can be jumped, every obstacle can be conquered. Assassins spend most of their time training with functional body weight exercises as that’s usually the only thing they need to lift.

Fearless, calculated, and efficient, Assassins have low body fat percentages because extra weight could mean the difference between life and death on a mission. They have solid endurance as well, allowing them to progress through an obstacle-filled environment without breaking a sweat.

Primary Attributes: Agility, stamina

Training: Parkour, free running, rock climbing.

Real World example: Parkour traceurs, free runners, most athletes on Ninja Warrior.

Hi fellow Assassins! Can we make this thread a sticky so that it's always at the top? I don't know how we do that or if Spezzy has to do it. But I figure it's gonna get busy up in here the next few days and it'll make it easier to find.

Anyway, I took my first Parkour class today and I loved it. Now I've just gotta wait a couple weeks so I can afford the membership fee for weekly classes.

Looking forward to getting to know you all better over the next 6 weeks and beyond!

We have a Parkour gym that teaches a lot of other stuff too but they have indoor where you learn the basics with big padding to fall on and then they have an outdoor motion park too. Here's where I went today.

I'm totally new to it and being 41 years old I'm a little scared to just go outside and mess around until I feel comfortable with knowing how to get out of a fall etc. But as soon as I'm a little more confident I'll be looking up the Facebook page more. Thanks.

Hey Assassin types!

I'm currently about a level 0.05 assassin. The good news: I have waaay more gametime left before I hit level cap than usual :D At the moment, I'm coming out of what's been about 4 years of bed rest (with a 6 month break sept 2010-mar 2011). So I'm kind of wobbly-shaped. I want to fly. Up, around, over, through. I really want to eventually be competent on uneven bars and rings, as well as in the outside world (and maybe do springboard diving again too!).

I'll admit it: g-forces make me high. Seriously. Put me on a rollercoaster, and I'll giggle like a maniac. For an hour. This is why running in a straight line is boring. Running in a short line then jumping over something and swinging around a pole and then under a bar and then up a wall on the other hand ... that? That is awesome.

I have no idea about Parkour groups in London as yet, but I'm not going to investigate until I have what I consider to be a minimal level of functional strength and endurance (I hate being the one holding up the group). For me, this challenge is taking the first steps along that road.

At the moment, I have planned two self-guided workouts per week, and one guided (group) workout a week. The group workout is suspension bodyweight training on a doohickey called a TRX. Basically, padded non-independent, really low rings. My on-my-own workouts will be a combination of interval training (sprints/recovery), pushups, dips, planks, one-arm rows (working towards pullups), and hardcore stretching. I may throw in a yoga class or three for the balance and flexibility work (I have insanely tight hamstrings, and insanely flexible hips, it's crazy).

So - hoping to improve my distance for time, my ability to move myself, and my all-around outlook this challenge. I want to do all the cool things! But I'll leave that for the next round, I think.

Glad to have all of you. Feel free to contact me here, on facebook, email, etc... always happy to help anyone out in our guild.

We'll have a new challenge out soon and some parkour tutorials from yours truly.

Any suggestions, comments, questions, feelings, impressions, hopes, dreams, fruit baskets, etc.... are more than welcome!

Also @ysabet. London is huge for parkour. Check out parkourgenerations.com or urbanfreeflow.com there is also the British Parkour Coaching Association (I think that's what it's called). Keep us up to date on your progress.

Hello! Just posted my goals. Still figuring out the points stuff. I've never done role-playing, but this is kinda cool. I'm all about organizing, but putting numbers to different parts of myself, and then the possibility of adding to them...awesome.

OK, I JUST figured out that there's two places for assassins, a Challenge Forum and a Guild Forum. I was so lost there for a second. I have much to learn.

There is never a sudden revelation, a complete and tidy explanation for why it happened, or why it ends, or why or who you are. You want one and I want one, but there isn't one. It comes in bits and pieces, and you stitch them together wherever they fit, and when you are done you hold yourself up, and still there are holes and you are a rag doll, invented, imperfect. And yet you are all that you have, so you must be enough. There is no other way.

Hi guys, I decided I am more an Assassin wanna-be than a Monk wanna-be. I do Capoeira and love it but I am really into the bodyweight/acrobatics right now. Well, kind of goes hand in hand I guess.

Anyways, I am creating my thread this afternoon i.e. as soon as I come up with a race (?) and a title. Sigh...

Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose!

Hey!! I will be posting up my thread in a second, I'm really excited! I have been doing parkour for a few weeks but I'm still in a pretty bad shape, althopugh with a lot of enthusiasm to begin and learn and learn and learn :D I know, though, that I have to think small first so I'm going bit by bit. Good luck to everyone!!!!
