taking out the fiber goal for this final week to try out something different – see spoiler. batch cooked a bunch of hard boiled eggs last night for breakfasts this week. dinner was pizza spaghetti squash pie. ermuhgahd so good.

i’ve had this lower abdomen pain (kind of like cramps) since Saturday and google made me wonder if it’s a bout of diverticulitis. to prevent diverticulitis you eat high fiber foods – great, did that, maybe too late in the life game? but if you’re experiencing a flare up you actually may want to avoid high fiber foods to give your system a temporary rest. so I’m going to try that for a week and hope it goes away. so they recommend:

  • white rice, white bread, or white pasta
  • dry, low-fiber cereals
  • processed fruits such as applesauce or canned peaches
  • cooked animal proteins such as fish, poultry, or eggs
  • olive oil or other oils
  • yellow squash, zucchini, or pumpkin (peeled, seeds removed, and cooked)
  • cooked spinach, beets, carrots, or asparagus
  • potatoes with no skin
  • fruit and vegetable juices
  • ice pops with frozen fruit puree or pieces of finely chopped fruit
  • soup broth or stock
  • gelatin (such as Jell-O)

couple minutes of yoga

 

cooking and meal prepping took long last night so I didn’t get any more yoga in. made this weird concoction of hot poultry sausage, tomatoes, spaghetti squash, and rice. suuuuuure why not?? squashed two hard boiled eggs together with mustard, seasoning, and avo oil to made a fake egg salad for breakfast today. put it on my fancy whole foods white bread, toasted. brought applesauce and bone broth for snacks today.

started bleeding pretty consistently yesterday so I suppose the pain from sat - tues could have been menstrual cramps? It’s been 8 days since the end of my last period but SO is starting hers soon (today probably). maybe I just have oversympathetic ovaries?! oh well, too late, I’m doing this stupid low fiber diet this week already.

Week 4 – Wednesday

 

ran outside: 1.5 miles in 16 minutes

 

then 4 rounds of:

60x Jump Rope

20x Sit Ups

15x bw squats

 

yup. had time for some yoga after work which was nice. rescheduled my dress pick up date as my seamstress is going through some medical issues. I’m still eating weird food - egg salad sandwiches are really filling folx. the sharks are still here in force for the 2nd time this month.

I think you meant to say that egg salad is really delicious. I often forget about it for months at a time and then feel like a genius when I remember it exists. Thank you for the reminder! Do you put anything special in yours?

that too! i just made it up based on what was already in the house. first day was with dijon mustard, seasonings, and avocado oil. but it turned out too oily and too mustardy lolol. next 2 times i mixed in a half of an avocado with two eggs, a dab of dijon and seasonings. it was great!

v true! and i'm not kidding about them being so filling. i can't believe how well/long they keep me full for being 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bread, and a half of an avocado.

Week 4 – Thursday

 

circuit, 30s each move

+an extra 30s of pop squats to make it to 20 minutes total

 

went to a networking event after work and stuck to one drink (gahd it’s hard for me to turn down free drinks). I ate the free food for dinner though – mushroom pizza and some sort of chicken bacon quesadilla pieces.

 

I got home pretty early so I was able to get a few minutes of yoga in before calling it a night. which turned into an actual full night’s sleep!

i think the biggest factors of winning this was 1) having a soda water first before my alcohol and 2) being with a coworker who doesn't drink at all

 

OKAY! so friday i did another circuit in the morning

but didn't get in any yoga. got a great night's sleep before the tough mudder tho!

 

it was super fun. it started out with a bit of rain which was actually good as the dust was pretty bad before that. there was a fair bit of trail running before the first obstacle which was a crawl under barbed wire. there were a few obstacles like this where you're using your forearms to propel you forward so my forearms are quite cut up and bruised.

^we did not roll, we forearm crawled. then there was a hero carry and i carried SO piggy back style for a little over half of the switch mark. we didn't switch though. we decided before starting to play it safe and smart so that neither one of us would be in a cast for the wedding... then there was a giant mud pit with hidden holes so you had to walk very carefully across the pit. i had lots of neverending story moments during this OCR lol then surprise to no one, there was more mud with tall mud mounds you had to scramble over. a 10' ft wall that i got a boost over. another giant mud pit, another crawl on forearms under barbed wire in the mud and up a slope. i braced the person's foot in front of me to help her and then got two hands to help me out of it. lots of community boosting. then the one obstacle i skipped was a 13 ft quarter pipe that you had to run at as hard as you could and hope someone at the top caught your arms. skipping it was part of the safe/smart deal but i definitely want to try it next time!

 

then there were three giant rectangular blocks in a water/mud pit that you had to grab on to and try to make it roll over so that you were on the other side. again lots of teamwork. once you were on the other side you turned around and helped roll the block for the next group. if too many people tried to go over at once the block wouldn't roll. SO ended up getting stuck at one of the blocks for like 8 rolls because too many people kept trying to go over and of course (the nice person she is) she kept letting go of the block so it would roll.

then more running through the forest and crawling under a tight heavy net until finally the "happy ending" obstacle. a fairly easy climb up a slippery slope (but with a rope to help) and then a fun slide down into water.

 

so ultimately i only skipped one of 13 obstacles! super friendly awesome people running alongside you to help. you get really freaking muddy. and sore. i am SO SORE and bruised and cut up but whatevs. it was a blast :D
