raptron Posted May 25, 2018 Author Report Share Posted May 25, 2018 Day 0.4 I had a Salad Club salad for lunch (shredded cabbage, banana peppers, roast chicken, sunflower seeds, bacon bits, cilantro avocado dressing) and went to gymnastics practice -- which was actually very good! I did lots and lots and lots of front tumbling and my shoulder felt fine. I'm starting to work up to front handspring + front pike + front tuck again, so I did some into rebounds and into rolls. I might try some onto soft mats on Saturday and see how that goes because it feels very doable! After floor, I worked on balance beam basics and then lots of back handsprings. I got on the high beam and removed a couple of mats, so I am back on track with these. I want to include it in a series next season, and right now I feel like I am very, very, very far away from that but I have like... 8 months. I'll just keep chipping away and hopefully they'll feel really solid and comfortable by then. I barely eked out a new bench PR at 152# -- it feels like it should/could be much easier but my bar path is shit. So, I definitely will zero in on trying to improve my technique next cycle. My conventional deadlifts didn't go anywhere... haha. Literally, just stayed on the ground at 280# even though I was pulling 275# for 3 AND separately in singles. I feel like I actually tried to load my hamstrings properly and it just didn't work. Probably because I never do that. Saturday practice was great for tumbling. I started trying to connect dive rolls out of my front handspring + front pike on a 4" mat, which went really well. I think I'll be able to just go for some actual front tucks after a few more practices at this progression. I also did my back handsprings on high beam with only 3 mats, and while they didn't feel perfect, I was still okay mentally with doing them. I ended with kips for abs conditioning, but threw my neck a bit weirdly on my last set. I don't think it was related to the shoulder -- just probably a result of my shoulders being very tired after the week's activities. Sunday had a quick driving practice, but I was NOT in a great mood for it, so it was pretty short. Still living that parking lot life. I have to renew my permit next week because it will be expired when I get back from my trip. Speaking of.... I'm going to be out Wednesday - Sunday renting a house with some friends. Friday or Saturday DO A HIKE?! DO A SWIM! DO SOME CROW? I will not have time for driving this week, only will have 2 opportunities to do lifting/accessories, and probably won't have access to much salad-like food after today. Maybe I'll make a resolution to get stuff for at least one big salad for peeps during the weekend. I normally just subsist on beers, handfuls of chips, and weirdly... lots of raw radishes. But I did sit in a donut float for National Donut Day: From the top though, I did get my lifting with a friend on Thursday: 4 x 5 x 215# squat top sets 4 x 5 x 120# bench top sets 4 x 6 dips 4 x 12 scap pulls 4 x 12 x 60# one legged KB romanian deadlifts It is nice to lift with buddies! Once we got to the house, I spent MUCH of my time in the pool and in the hot tub: POOOOOL PARTY. There was a little diving board so I did some simple dives -- but not a ton because the water was very chlorinated and felt like snorting fire. In terms of total physical activity during the trip, it was pretty low for me, but lots of fun. We had some musical sing-a-long time in the hot tub, played some board and card games, and shot the shit for 4 days straight. Love. I tapered off my drinking much better than I have in years past so I wasn't very hungover Sunday and feel great today. I am back to normal biz! Let's get after it. I'm using the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture (35 spf) right now and it applies well at first go, but if I start to sweat, it gets kind of slimey in a way I am not a big fan of, especially because I'm trying to use it for summertime sunshine.
