"Toughest path of mass tourism in Norway" Breakfast - 06:45 Porridge Rolled oats Rye flakes Mixed nuts and seeds Cranberries Hike - 07:15 -> 14:15 The views we had during our hike were out of this world! The hike was 28 km (17.4 miles) and a sign at the start of the trail said this is "the toughest path of mass tourism in Norway". But it was so worth it! 10/10 would do again! 09:30 - Trolltunga Me and my brother at Trolltunga, "Troll's tongue". The drop is about 700 m (2300 ft). Hike snack - 12:00 Flapjack pecan bar We stopped by a creek to refuel on our way back. First time I tried a Flapjack bar. It was very tasty, but oh so sweet. Had it been circular in shape and served at Starbucks everyone would agree it's a very sweet and tasty cookie. Now, since it's shaped as a bar, people think it's a healthy fitness snack... Rain - 13:45 Right about here, on our way down, it started raining. We had our tent set up close to the shore of the left lake (it's actually a dam) on the photo. So we hurried down, packed up our gear and got going. Lunch - 16:15 Turkey jerky An apple Strawberry/white chocolate protein bar We drove out of the rain, and stopped for a quick lunch. Protein from the jerky and bar, carbs from the apple. All that was missing for the perfect meal was some fat, but the Flapjack bar earlier had plenty of that, so all in all a well rounded lunch Night camp - 22:00 We found a beautiful spot for our night camp as the sun was setting. Dinner - 22:00 Thai soup Dehydrated mixed vegetables Dehydrated mushrooms Coconut milk powder Curry spices Dried anchovy Dessert - 22:20 Fresh raspberries Not only was it a beautiful spot to camp. Tobbe Posted August 3, 2018 Author Report Share Posted August 3, 2018 Day 18 Sunday, 29/7 Wakeup - 06:00 We checked the weather when we went to bed, and it said we should expect a few mm of rain during the night. But when the alarm rang at 6 am it was *pouring* down, so we checked the weather again, and now they said it would stop raining by 8 am, so we decided to sleep for two hours more. And sure enough - when we woke up again at 8 it had stopped raining! When I got out of the tent I saw that we had left the dinner pans out, and it had definitely rained a bit more than just a few millimeters! More like 20 mm! Since we had slept in we decided to skip breakfast and just pack our stuff and leave. Had a ferry we had to catch across a fjord. Scenic stop - 12:30 Saw a sign for an upcoming scenic stop. We were not disappointed! Lots of people stopping to take photos, and it's not hard to see why Lunch - 14:45 Potato Meat Zucchini When we arrived at our destination we were really hungry since we had skipped breakfast. So we immediately cooked a great lunch. Had a bag each of dehydrated food that we just added some water to and brought to a boil. Then let it sit for 20 minutes and a delicious meal is ready to be eaten! Laundry - 16:30 After lunch we put all our motorcycle gear that was still wet from yesterday's rain out in the sun to dry. We also washed our sweaty hiking clothes in the fjord we'd set up camp by. Also took a cold bath to wash ourselves Village walk - 18:00 Before dinner we decided to take a walk to discover the small village we'd stopped in. The photo just above shows the peak we're going to climb tomorrow. Dinner - 20:00 Dehydrated veggies Dry-cured reindeer meat Time for bed - 21:00 We were really lucky to find a place to sleep that even had mattresses! Via Ferrata Loen - 08:30 -> 11:15 View from the hike towards the starting point of the Via Ferrata. Climbing the first, easy, part. It's getting more challenging Crossing the first bridge. 120 m (400 ft) long. Second "bridge" was shorter, but felt more dangerous! View from the top. All in all we climbed 3000 ft (vertical distance) in 2h45m. Breakfast - 09:45 Rolled oats Strawberry protein powder Dried kiwi Water We wanted to get a quick start this morning, so we decided to wait until our first refuel stop before eating breakfast. Lunch/dinner - 17:30 Hummus with olives and celery Fresh carrot Also had one piece of beef jerky Old oak - 20:00 We made a quick stop by one of the oldest and biggest still living oaks in all of Europe. It's almost 1000 years old! Instead I have full access to my mothers delicious cooking. This makes it so much harder for me to not eat too much! Food log Breakfast - 08:00 Regular plain long milk/sour milk Mixed seeds and nuts Black currants Half a slice of moms home baked bread with butter and cheese An egg A huge cup of black tea Not enough protein And the bread, while much better than store bought, is probably not the healthiest choice... Snack - 08:30 Two of moms home grown cherry tomatos Snack 2 - 11:00 A couple of cabbage leaves A huge cup of black tea. (Seriously, that's like 5 dl / 2 cups of tea.) Lunch - 13:00 Pan-fried chicken in cream sauce Mixed veggies Glass of water Snack - 13:45 A small pear I picked straight off of a tree during a walk though the neighborhood. Dinner - 18:00 Grilled wild boar Grilled pork Grilled button mushrooms Grilled corn with butter Grilled yellow zucchini Tzatziki Water melon with marinated feta cheese Mixed salad This is more than I need. Especially with all the snacking throughout the day. But if I could have stopped myself with just this one plate it wouldn't have been so bad. Alas, I couldn't. I hate that I'm so weak when it comes to resisting more food! I had two more pieces of meat. One and a half more piece of corn. One more mushroom and one more piece of water melon. Makes me feel much calmer too and not stress so much about the food, which is really nice. Food log Breakfast - 10:00 Lemon curd flavored quark Kefir Frozen strawberries Brazil nuts You know the drill by now My regular go-to breakfast Drink 1 - 11:30 Big cup of black tea Drink 2 - 16:30 1.2 liters (5 cups) of zero calorie juice. It's hot today! Dinner - 19:30 Caesar sallad Without the croutons, and with extra vegetables added. Yummy! Fitness log Stumbled upon some random spruce animal during my morning walk Noteworthy struggles The rest of my family had pizza for lunch. They offered me some, but I wanted to stay with the healthy choices. However, I wasn't sure I would be able to resist the temptation if I sat down with them at the table, so I left the house instead while they finished eating, and ended up skipping lunch all together. Almost back on track with my log now Food log Breakfast - 10:00 Quark Kefir Mixed frozen berries Hazel nuts, Brazil nuts and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) Drink 1: Black tea As good as ever Had just a couple of tbsps left of the lemon quark, so it was mostly unflavored quark today Drink 2 - 12:00 3 dl sparkling water Lunch - 14:00 Caesar sallad Same as dinner yesterday, but I skipped the extra parmesan cheese today Snack - 17:00 Two cherry tomatos One dill pickle Two cherries One cabbage leaf Forgot to take photos Drink 3 - 18:30 6 dl zero calories apple/pear juice Drink 4 - 22:40 Sugar free energy drink Realized I hadn't gone for my walk yet. And I was hungry, but didn't want to eat this late. So an energy drink it was to get some motivation to walk Fitness log Brisk 1.4 miles walk, with just 30 minutes left of the day upon completion 5 sets x 10 reps of pushups. Needed to use up some more of that energy I got from the Nocco drink. Not sure how to handle food during the day I always eat too much when there's a party. Should I skip food during the day, to leave room for extra food at the party? Or should I eat during the day so that I don't come to the party hungry, making it easier to resist all the good food there? Food log Breakfast - 11:00 Quark Kefir Mixed frozen berries Walnuts Drink 1: Black tea Drink 2 - 14:00 9 dl zero calorie juice Drink 3 - 16:45 6 dl zero calorie juice. Skipped lunch. Trying to drink a lot to feel full instead. Welcome drink at the party - 18:00 Sparkling wine (cava) I had half the class, then I asked the bartender for water instead. I find it much easier to control my food intake when I'm sober than after drinking Appetizer - 18:00 Bread with basil mayo and salmon Bread with parmesan cream, salami and sliced sugar snap peas They were really good both of them, and I could easily have eaten a lot more, but I managed to restrain myself. There were also other toppings that I didn't taste, which I kind of both regret (would have been really nice to see how good they tasted), but also am very proud that I didn't try (yay will power! yay not too much food!). Dinner - 19:30 Beef Roasted potatos Roasted califlower Pan-fried asparagus Red wine sauce Drink: Coke Zero I skipped the potatoes and ate the rest. Everything was delicious, especially the meat and the sauce! Would have been really nice with a glass of red wine to the food, but again, I find it much easier to make better food choices if I'm not drinking. And Coke Zero is a lot fewer calories than wine! Dessert - 21:30 Apple pie Whipped cream Fresh berries Two kinds of melon An extra serving of melon Black tea I should have skipped dessert. I love pie, but this was a very average apple pie. Nothing special at all. I mean, it was good, but not worth the calories. I should also have skipped the extra serving of fruit. I don't really even like fruit all that much. Fitness log Walk/jog in 29 C/84 F heat. Sweaty! Random Finally reached my goal weight! Yay! So nice Now I just need to build strength again - regaining some of that muscle I've lost during my weight loss. All without gaining weight. That means I need to lose more fat, while building some muscle. If I can do that I'll be back to the shape I had before our trip to Greece earlier this year (where I gained 10 lbs). Strength training will have to wait a little bit longer though. Now I'll just focus on keeping my weight. I'm super worried the birthday party caused me to gain some of the weight back though We'll have to see what the scales says tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's not too bad. But it tasted good Lunch - 14:15 Pan-fried pork, marinated in herbs and garlic Oven roasted zucchini Oven roasted green beans (over done) One small tomato Tzatziki (Made with Greek yogurt 0% fat) Drink 2: Two glasses of water It's so dry here they have forbidden any kind of outdoor grilling/bbq So I had to pan fry my meat. Still good, but not as good as it would have been on the grill. Had the zucchini and the green beans on the same baking sheet, for the same time, in the oven. The zucchini came out great! Really tasty! But the green beans were burnt Drink 3 - 18:30 6 dl of zero calories juice Dinner - 20:00 Caesar sallad Drink 4: Cup of black fruit tea The last of the leftover Caesar sallad chicken and the last of the home made Caesar sallad sauce. Probably sounds weird to have black tea to drink with your dinner, but that's what I wanted today Fitness log Logged two walks today. One right after waking up, before doing anything else. And one tonight, right before crashing in front of a movie on the couch. Season is coming to an end. Lunch - 14:45 Mixed sallad Two boiled eggs with herbal salt Tzatziki (leftover from yesterday) Drink 2: Glass of water The eggs were perfect! Love the eggs we get from our own hens <3 Drink 3 - 17:00 Sugar free energy drink Only got 3.5 hours sleep tonight. So had a real hard time focusing on work that I needed to do. So I got a zero calorie energy drink. It really helped! (And tasted pretty good too. First time I tried this flavor.) Dinner - 20:30 3 kinds of potato pizza Ham and veggies in puff pastry Cream cheese (garlic and herbs flavor) and crème fraîche sauce White sticky rice Mixed sallad Drink 4: Two glasses of sparkling water This wasn't the healthiest meal, but there's a reason for that. We were celebrating! See further down for details Wondering about the three kinds of different potato pizza I had as an appetizer? My wife and I were in Rome, Italy, last year and was served a delicious potato pizza. I've been wanting to try to recreate it at home since then! Figured today would be a good day, seeing as we were celebrating One is with potato, olive oil, garlic, salt, herbs and extra mature cheese One is with potato, olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs One is with potato, olive oil, salt and pepper If I had to choose only one I'd chose the one with potato, olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs. It was very good without the herbs too actually. To my big surprise my least favorit one was the one with cheese. And you have no idea how much I love cheese! (Well, maybe you do if you read my post from the wedding in Paris... ). But this time I'd much prefer to just snack on the cheese as it is, as a side dish to the pizza. Fitness log Picked some blackberries during my morning walk. Not until I snapped this photo did I notice the extra protein One small flying thing, and a spider Completed Quests This is one of the default quests I got on my "My Epic Quest" list. So now I've checked off "Go camping in my back yard with my kids" The foreign country quest was also a default I was given. Almost uncanny how I got that one since we already had a trip to France planned for July! The 100 pushups quest I added myself. Breakfast - 09:30 Quark Greek yogurt (0% fat, 10% protein) Kefir Mixed frozen berries Brazil nuts Almonds Drink 2: Black tea Lunch - 15:00 Fried eggs Sauerkraut Iceberg lettuce Tomatoes Drink 3: 3 dl of plain water I was craving some sauerkraut. Fried some eggs that I spiced with juniper berries and fennel seeds. Goes really well with the kraut! Drink 4 - 15:15 6 dl sugar free juice Drink 5 - 17:00 6 dl sugar free juice Dinner - 19:00 Greek salad Iceberg Cherry tomatoes Zucchini Cucumber Red union Feta cheese (low fat) Cubed ham Olives Tzatziki (0% fat Greek yogurt) Dried mint Drink 6: 3 dl plain water Really tasty Greek inspired salad. Only thing missing was a load of olive oil. But I wanted to keep the calories in check, so I skipped that The dried mint sprinkled on top was really good Fitness log Got out on my daily morning walk today as well. Feels good! And then an evening walk with my wife. Walked passed that weird pine animal again. It's out there in the middle of the woods. I wonder who placed it there. Also wonder why they placed it there...
