Week 1

Sat 11 Aug:

 

Training:

Bench day.

 

-Wide grip bench for 5s at 95kg

-Close grip bench for 8s at 75kg

-Band assisted pullups for 8s

-1 arm KB OHP for 8s with a 20kg KB

-Pushdowns for 8s at 32.5kg

 

Conditioning:

-Box jumps and dead ball slams... this was only 12 mins but I swear my HR was above 200 bpm for the whole time.

All the other Stuff:

-All good with the supplements.

-Russian lesson today - thankfully my tutor decided to give all the different cases a miss (I think she saw how much my brain malfunctioned last week) and we just focused on some new verbs and some reading.

-Mrs Blocky did well with dinner:

Week 1

Sun 12 Aug:

 

Due to a scheduling issue, I had to do my Monday workout today. We have a guy coming in tomorrow to insulate the roof of our gym (which will be amazing in summer, just inconvienient for my workout).

Training:

Max effort DL.

 

-Rack pull from knee: Top single of 195kg (only 5kg under my PR) - also didn't re-injure my ribs - much winning.

-Squats vs 10kg chains: top triple of 120kg with immaculate technique

-Squats with SSB: 5s with 80kg

-RDLs: 8s at 85kg

-2 different types of knee raises for abz

 

Conditioning:

-None today... it IS technically a rest day, but I'll be able to squeeze it in tomorrow.

 

All the other Stuff:

-All good with the supplements.

-Russian: Did a fair bit during the morning.

Week 2

Mon 13 Aug:

 

Gah! What a day! I did a shit load of... gasp...manual labour today. The bloke turned up to insulate out gym and it was a long day of work - I ended up having breakfast at about 4pm.

Training:

None - see Sunday for the stuff I was supposed to do today. I will say this though... the rack pulls have given me some good back DOMs - to be fair, I haven't pulled anything over 130kg for quite a while now due to injuries, so 195kg was probably a bit of a stretch.

 

I did have 10 mins to fit in a little bench pressing (I've been doing this on my dedicated lower body day to increase the frequency and see of there is any difference). Triples at 90kg.

 

Conditioning:

- I did NOT get this done today so I'll do a double day tomorrow... the conditioning must be done!

 

All the other Stuff:

-All good with the supplements - even if they were all taken together in what was basically a meal.

-Russian: Nope.

Ugh... more manual labour... the shed is basically done now, just a little finishing off to do tomorrow which wont take long.

Training:

None.

 

Conditioning:

-Did the overdue conditioning + today's conditioning.

 

Part 1:

10 rounds of 10 pushups and 15 Kettleball swings in 12 mins.

 

Part 2:

A combination of upright rows and C2 rowing - 16 mins.

 

All the other Stuff:

-All good with the supplements.

-Russian: Nope.

Good grief... I actually know enough Russian to get the gist of this! The dog is my nemesis at the moment... anything I leave within gobbling distance gets gobbled.

I like to say I have a multi sport body since I have a power lifters abs but a runners arms haha

Ура! Успехи! Don't know the Russian words, but: systematic exposure to a language is hella useful for reinforcement. Мне надо опять смотреть русские мултфильмы на Youtube. Они мне помогают привыкать слышать русский язык. 

 

Ah, the joys of dog ownership... What about handstands/ handstand pushups, if your personal gravity is wonky?

Week 2

Wed 15 Aug:

 

Training:

Bench day!

 

-Bench off a foam board: New PR of 132.5kg! Up 5kg out of nowhere. I've been plateaued on bench for a while so this is nice.

-TNG Bench: 8s up to 95kg (equal 8RM)

-Strict OHP: 8's up to 45kg

-Comp Squats: Technique 5s up to 90kg

-Extensions and curls for lots

Conditioning:

- 100 lunges and 100 back extensions in sets of 40, 30, 20, 10 in 15 mins... insane lower back pump.

 

All the other Stuff:

-All good with the supplements.

-Russian: Nope.

-Shed: Finished! New roof is done and I can start looking for an airconditioner... Of course, Mrs Blocky now wants it painted...

I did pick up quite a lot when we visited Moscow... but I was unprepared for how fast Russian is spoken. My tutor has been increasing her pace recently too and it exponentially increases the difficulty.

She is quite a challenge. Bassetts are well known for their stubborness.

 

Re: handstands... I wont bore you with all the details... but most of my joints are wonky/broken. My left shoulder has a nasty habit of dislocating when the arm is extended overhead. Its a good excuse to go easy on overhead pressing and oly lifting

It's only painful with squatting now - just because of where the belt presses in on the bottom ribs (Dr Google has diagnosed an intercostal strain/tear... 3-6 weeks to heal and I'm currently at 3 weeks). With benching, I can wear the belt lower. Also... sneezing is no longer a traumatic experience...

Week 2

Thur 16 Aug:

 

Training:

Nope. Rest day.

 

Conditioning:

- 250 kettlebell swings in 17 mins. 20kg KB. Not a cracking pace, but I'm still sweating 60mins later. It's a brilliant exercise and there is anecdotal stories of Russian Oly lifters doing 500-1000 swings per day for GPP which allowed them to eat ALL THE FOODZ without putting on weight.

 

All the other Stuff:

-All good with the supplements (still have a few to take but I'm on track).

-Russian: Nope.

 

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!  My new hacky sacks have arrived early, so now I can get schwifty again (starting tomorrow). I'll adjust the challenge goals with the remaining days.
