this distinction seems pretty useful?

Next time you meat with the dietician, sneak in a candy bar.  Then when she is giving you grief open it and eat it while keeping constant eye contact with her.

Bonus points if you see a vein pop out on her forehead.

My guess, if everyone “ate clean” we wouldn’t need nutritionists. Hence the ire.

If all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail. Some of them live, breathe, and die by government recommendations (Funded of course by food makers). I knew a dietician in the previous hospital where I worked whose head would explode when I told him I was losing weight on Paleo.

A new challenge and I almost missed it. Stalking skills seem to be slipping. Fortunately I still stalk Sloth fairly well and he seems to follow everyone. Good luck on the goals.

It’s not the same though; you quit heckling me.

Deffy said it best. Trying to be right instead of helpful. Which is a lot more annoying than using the term “clean eating”  you’re asking for nutrition help, not applying for a degree in the subject.

yeah, you guys are all right.  I could be more aware that I'm only using the term for my own use and try to speak her language when I must.

Week 0 Day 5

All that talk about eating clean but I haven't been eating that clean since Friday.  But I've stayed under target and made good choices.  Afterall, we're not in the business of restricting, right?  I had a hankering for pizza.  I have points for a free Domino's but I logged that in MFP and it would have taken a lot of dedication to not eat too much.  I found a healthier frozen pizza option when I went shopping.  I knew I had the calories to eat the entire thing if I wanted, even though I didn't intend to.  Of course I did though and it was great.  I also used said pizza to bribe myself into getting my workout in.  I threw together a strength workout with some KB 1 legged RDL, squats, incline pushus, and then some core work.

Food Goal - 50% clean and under target: 3points

3 pt streak: 5 days

Fitness Goal - Not many steps but got a strength workout in: 3 points

3 pt streak: 5 days

Total Points: 36

Week 0 Day 6

I feel like I need to explain this one a little bit.  I regularly donate blood.  Periodically there is a blood drive at work so it's just easier to participate there.  Whenever it's not frequent enough and I'm eligible to donate the Red Cross keeps calling me.  I don't always take the call but I got a call earlier in the week.  They are extremely low and asked I would donate platelets this time instead.  Thing is, it takes up to 3 hours for a platelet donation.  Luckily, or not, I had some free time Saturday so I went ahead and scheduled it.  I also had to attend a 2 hour training in the morning for boy scouts since it's almost popcorn season.  The presenters were entirely too enthusiastic and they tried to get the audience to be enthusiastic too.  Not happening.

I fasted through breakfast, which also allowed me to sleep in a bit more.  But then I had a limited amount of time between the training and my platelet donation time.  I made some homemade hashbrowns and the a bacon  and egg skillet with some fruit and yogurt on the side.  I wanted to get a workout in before the donation too so I grabbed the ruck since I was limited on time.  The hills were much harder than I expected.  I'm super glad I got that workout in when I did.  The donation did not go well and then I was completely wiped afterward.   I don't know if that's normal after platelets or if it's because they had trouble.  I'm not sure I'll do it again.  After the donation I came home and pretty much just laid on the couch the rest of the day and finished up OITNB.  I grabbed an apple and some Cheez its for a snack as soon as I got home and then had pizza again, this time a tortilla pizza.

Food Goal - 50% clean and under target: 3points

3 pt streak: 6 days

Fitness Goal - Rucked and got in 8000 steps: 3 points

3 pt streak: 6 days

You’ve gone too bad-ass for me to heckle you. Racing in underground circuits, contemplating getting tattoos for points in a race, and hanging with a gang of bears. If I heckled you I’d be scared that I’d get jumped by a gang of underground tattooed bears. But then again do I have to worry about a mid-packer catching me?

But since this is your thread Shello I should say good job. Good going on the streak. I need to get tracking again so I can feel the satisfaction of a streak.

I feel like when you're doing something as awesome as blood/platelet donation, you get pretty much a free pass.

I like that idea.

My first platelet donation was pretty ugly, I had giant, bulbous bruises because I couldn’t hold still. The rest have gone well. I don’t feel wiped out afterwards, usually just hungry.

I do have abruise too from them digging around trying to go for a less than optimal vein.  But even once they go to a good spot, they had concerns that the return flow was leaking.   They did say the first visit is usually worse.  After that they have all the data from the first one so they can set it up more precisely the next time.  I may try it again.

Not wanting to break a streak has saved me more than once from poor decisions.  I highly recommend it.

Oh man platelet donating sounds rough. I’m sorry it didn’t go well.  I hope you feel better soon. I pass out when I donate blood, so you are awesome amazing in my book.

I don't think it generally is that rough, it's mostly a time commitment.  I'm just a special snowflake.

Week 0 Day 7

I intended to fast until lunch but I was fairly hungry when I woke up and the prospect of waiting until after yardwork before breakfast was too much.  It was a very good choice because yard work was exhausting and took almost an hour and a half.  I pulled a bunch a lot a ton of weeds and that got me knackered before even getting the lawn mower out.  I took a few water breaks while pulling weeds and then another between the front and the back yard.  Breakfast was some cheez toast and bacon with some berries and greek yogurt on the side.  I had a snack after all the yard work - an apple, chocolate milk, and some popcorn chips.  And then I pretty much didn't eat anything until dinner which was a taco salad with a few Doritos thrown in for some crunch.  I was tempted to wash that down with one, or more, of the mini ice cream sandwiches I had bought but I was pretty happy with where my calories were so I skipped it.  That might be a bad decision since Peach found them already.  There may not be any left next time I check it.

Food Goal - 50% clean and under target: 3points

3 pt streak: 7 days ----------------- CHAIN BONUS +5, and a streak saver

Fitness Goal - Yard work totally counts and 9400 steps: 3 points

3 pt streak: 7 days ----------------- CHAIN BONUS +5, and a streak saver

Week 0 RECAP

I am extremely happy with how Week 0 turned out.  I'm down 4 pounds for the week, feeling the proper amounts of discomfort from my workouts, and I'm feeling great about my food choices.  I'm excited to keep it going.

Week 1 brings a few challenges since we'll have a Japanese exchange student for half of the week.  We'll be busy with showing him the city and american life, and food.  The kids start school this week and I still have to BEGIN prepping for class that starts the following week.  We have also been approved for puppy fostering and the rescue center just rescued a bunch of beagle/boxer puppies from Oklahoma.  We should be getting our foster dog later next week.  I could fairly easily adjust my workout schedule around any one of these but it will be a challenge to work around all of them at once.

In dutch "rukken" means jerking off. Is this the same with the English "rucking"? I've been racking my brain on how this can be a euphemism...

Rucking is also something randy sheep in fields do. They don't need backpacks, unless you count other sheep.
