J3nn goes on vacation

This challenge sees me on vacation for most of it, so I'm not going to set up a real challenge, but I wanted to have somewhere to check in and track a few things, so this will be really low key with hopefully some good travel photos and stories.

Goals:

  • Travel blog - daily I want to record places we've been, and places we've eaten and I want pictures everywhere so that I can write a travel blog as we go instead of waiting for three years to do it like I did for the Kauai blog.
  • Work out - on vacation I'm going to give a pass. But I have saved a bunch of videos so I'll have them. There will be swimming, walking and hiking to help with that. Once we're back I'll have to get back to the gym, so I'll have four workouts to track then.
  • Reflection - my last challenge I realized that writing is not the way I want to level up my life. Now I need to figure out what is the way. Hoping two weeks on vacation will help with that. Tangible activities for this are to
    • Finish my month reviews for May, June and July
    • Search out challenges on instagram (crafting, drawing, photography, hand-lettering, etc.)
    • Journal
    • Lurk on Craftster to find swaps or challenges to inspire me
    • Come up with a level up your life goal to try for next challenge
    • Since I've changed my goals here this will effect what I'm doing with my master mind group so I need to make a new plan for that as well
  • List of doom
    • That job never got posted, so when it becomes available I want to apply and hopefully land an interview. I still need to polish my resume and write a cover letter for that.

That should do it for me this next time, I don't want to overdo it.

Aloha!

Awesome goals. Hope you have a lovely holiday! There's nothing better than taking a break from everything, seeing new things, going different places! I've also got a job related post, which is scaring the crap out of me XD

Aloha from the other side of vacation, and what a vacation it was... but first an update...

Update:

  • Travel blog - daily I want to record places we've been, and places we've eaten and I want pictures everywhere so that I can write a travel blog. I wasn't actually great about this day to day, but by the end of the vacation I had recorded everywhere we'd been and taken pictures, so that's something. I'm setting a goal of writing the post by the end of this challenge.
  • Work out - Right, I'm glad I gave myself the pass. I ended up getting sick so we didn't get a single hike in, but we did do some swimming and there was walking, but nothing strenuous enough to count as exercise. But, I'm back and mostly over the cold, so back to the gym on Tuesday.
  • Reflection - my last challenge I realized that writing is not the way I want to level up my life. Now I need to figure out what is the way. Hoping two weeks on vacation will help with that. Tangible activities for this are to
    • Finish my month reviews for May, June and July
      • Not done yet
    • Search out challenges on instagram (crafting, drawing, photography, hand-lettering, etc.)
    • Journal
      • I downloaded a book Find your Passion: 25 Questions You Must Ask Yourself by Henri Junttila, I've worked through three of the questions so far. It's not earth-shattering, but it's helping me stay focused and I think I'm starting to formulate my level up your life goals. Goal is to finish the questions by the end of the challenge. I am going to write a manifesto and learn more about Ikigai too, but those will be in future challenges.
    • Lurk on Craftster to find swaps or challenges to inspire me
      • There's a Harry Potter one I'm intrigued by, but nothing has jumped out otherwise
    • Come up with a level up your life goal to try for next challenge
      • It will involve crafting x minutes a day I'm thinking
    • Since I've changed my goals here this will effect what I'm doing with my master mind group so I need to make a new plan for that as well
      • Not quite ready to do this yet.
  • List of doom
    • The job is posted, so I guess I need to apply, I almost forgot about that. I wonder what that says. I need to finish my resume, I did one, but after a friend reviewed it, I need to make changes.

And then the vacation update. It was amazing of course. Hawaii, the big Island, is as beautiful a place as exists. The diversity of the island from the weather to the flora to the "feel" is so complex and rich, if you're willing to drive, you can find anything you're in the mood for and that's truly amazing. Highlights of the trip were visiting the Kanalau Octopus Farm, snorkeling in Kahalu'u Beach Park, Snorkeling in the Coral Gardens, Sunset & Stargazing on Mauna Kea, thunderstorm in Hilo, being lulled to sleep by the rainforest sounds, Mauna Kea beach, and surviving Hurricane Lane with minimal impact thanks to sound decisions by my hubby to have us move back to the dry side of the island. Two weeks is a long time in paradise until you get home and think about all the things you didn't get to do. And that is why we keep going back to Hawaii, it has truly stolen our hearts.

Welcome back from Vacation. It sounds like you had an awesome time.  I am sorry you got sick, but at least it sounds like you still got to do some really fun things.

For the level up your life thing, maybe you just "create" for x minutes a day (craft, write, dance, ect) and see if that works. Its open, it allows you to go with whatever inspires you that day, and your still getting to do something that you may not have time for otherwise.

Good luck. I am sure you will finish strong this week.

Looking forward to it!

Hi! Took me longer than I thought, but here's a slide show detailing our trip  with  photos! Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Did I really see someone wearing mittens? In Hawaii? I would never have thought! :)

You are so welcome. I put that together so I can do a show and tell at work, I'm happy to get more views out of it, we did have a great time! Yes, mittens and parkas. We were at the top of Mauna Kea, the elevation is 13,796′ feet. Even though it was sunset, so just barely dark, the temperature was 32 degrees with a wind chill, so it felt like 20 degrees. The tour company provided parka's and those mittens and later at the star gazing site, they gave us warm brownies and hot chocolate which is the only thing that saved us. We were expecting cold because we've done this before, but it was crazy how cold it feels when  you start out at 80 degrees at ocean level.

If you  love water falls you should go to Maui, there are so many amazing falls in Maui, but I don't think any are as tall as that. Fact check, I just looked it up, Akaka Falls is the 7th highest waterfall in Hawaii. IF you drive the Road to Hana after or during a rain, there are so many visible from the roadside and others available in just a short hike. They're amazing. Akaka falls is an actual park area and is much more protected so you don't quite get the feel of raw mother nature's power there, at least in my opinion. Not that I'd recommend skipping it, because seeing a waterfall that tall (442 feet) is worth it in it's own right.

Happy to share, I"m glad you enjoyed the show, let me know if you have any questions at all!
