Hot dog, hot damn, I've got a LOT going on this challenge, socially and travel-wise. I'll only be home the final weekend (Sept. 8-9) as it stands right now and that's not even a guarantee because my BFF's birthday is around then and she might want to do something. We've got 1 weekend of gymnastics camp, 1 river float weekend, and 2 weddings. It's gonna be GREAT, but that means my goals can't really be ALL that ambitious. Let's have some fun. 

 

Bench it

  • Bench accessories or shoulder work every lifting workout

Offseason fun

  • Do fun or dumb exercise challenges 1x per week (can be a flow, a hard balance, some weird skill I saw on instagram, etc.)

Saving green and eating green

  • Only 2 allowances for eating out Monday - Thursday over the course of the challenge

Keep the PROGRESS in work in progress

  • Work on Guide to Daydrinking 2-3x
  • Work on Underdark Campaign 2-3x
  • Rejigger my monthly budget categories
  • At least 1 driving practice (can be a weekday!)

It's a bit slow. I've got a pretty solid outline, but we all know what happens to nice outlines once you actually start writing. :rolleyes: 

 

I need to get in a good couple of sessions on the porch with beverages in hand and start cranking it out. My upcoming weekends have plenty of day-drinking and I'm planning on bringing my laptop to at least a couple of them, so if I can avoid the temptation of socialization for EVEN ONE HOUR, I bet I could get a lot done.!

Hahah, it is definitely old! Unfortunately, the GLs have lost the ability to change rank names for folks, but this is a legacy holdover from a party some years back.

Monday: I lifted. I did my bench + squat workout, but skipped accessories (because that wasn't a goal yet!) and met up with a friend for some drinks at our fave bar. We also went on a quest for soft serve at 11:30 PM... but wound up with regular hard ice cream. Alas.

 

Tuesday: I took a rest day because my body was super tired from the last... 7 days of activity. This was a good choice. I caught up on Sharp Objects and manically texted my friend while I watched (I have some THEORIES and haven't read the book), watched Grey Gardens (the HBO movie, not the doc, which I have seen quite a few times), and relaxxxxxed.

 

Remaining plan

W: Deadlift, ohp, and front squat + wrapping up my friend's D&D game and some character creation stuff for MY GAME :D

Th: Squat and bench + pack

F: Off to Nashville + drive to gymnastics camp + evening workout

S: Two-a-day workout with lake time and/or outdoor ninja playtime in the middle

S: hangover stretching + flight home

Day 0.3

It was humidddd, but not as hot. This was a pretty easy workout, which it is kind of supposed to be. Went home, made chicken sausages with spinach orzo for dinner, and then played D&D to wrap up my friend's mini-campaign for the moment. My buddy I am co-DMing with for our Underdark campaign is a rugby coach and player and their season is about to start up (plus he has 2 small children and a full time job) sooooooo I have a strong suspicion that I may be running the campaign mostly on my own, which is fine by me, but means a bit more work. We'll probably get started in the next few weeks. :D 

 

Tonight, I'm squatting big and continuing to try to remember how to bench. Plus packing for tomorrow's trip down to Tennnnnnessee.

Yeaaaaasssss, 250# squats for 5. Super happy with that because 250# was my 1 rep max early last summer. :D Bench... was dumb. But it felt ok. I probably could have gone a bit heavier, but it all felt difficult. I actually did reverse lunges instead of ham raises, but forgot to edit the spreadsheet to reflect that.

 

Day 0.5 - 0.7

Gymnastics camp weekend! I didn't really have a ton of skill goals going into it -- I just wanted to have a good time. I worked on some front twisting skills into the pit from floor/tumbltrak/balance beam. I also did some bars dismounts into the pit, cast handstand drills, freehip to handstand drills, front handsprings and walkovers on beam, flipped some fake tsuks off a wedge mat into the pit, etc. I didn't really learn anything new or work too hard on things I am trying to learn, but just kind of got in there and did a bit of working out and a LOT of socializing. :P I felt kind of overwhelmed and didn't work on a couple of the things I had planned to work on going into the weekend -- I get self conscious about trying to work on skills I don't know how to do around really excellent gymnasts sometimes. I'm still totally content with what I did manage to work on.

 

We also went to two pools, the lake, did some stand up paddleboarding, hiked to a waterfall, had a bonfire, had a huge dance party, played flipcup, played spikeball, etc. I did not sleep very much. 

 

Got home late last night and am slowly readjusting back to a normal pace of life.

Anyway, we're officially off into week 1!

Day 1.1

I felt too tired/beat up from the weekend to try to pull a heavy set of deadlifts, so I swapped the planned workout with the lighter deadlift day from later in the week instead.

+3 x 12 push-ups for my bench accessory. Other notes: I did one set at 255# before doing the other 4 sets at 245# for deads. Our regular hyper is gone, so I've swapped to doing them on our 45 degree and am doing them rounded back for all the glute action.

Day 1.2

dog-runs-into-pole-during-agility-event.

I went to the gym during lunch for a short upper body workout.

 

1 mile run to warm-up

4 x 12 x 35# seated DB press

4 x 5 x dips

4 x 15 x 10# reverse flyes

4 x 10 x triangle hand push-ups

4 x 2 x pull-ups

 

+ some of my shoulder PT at the end just to make sure things were moving right.

I took a sick day. I was super exhausted and generally mentally not there for work, so I slept in, napped, did a bit of working from home, but mostly did nothing productive all day. I think that was okay though. I didn't wind up eating out on Tuesday night like I had planned, so instead, I ordered pizza on Wednesday.

Lifting tonight, another work gym workout tomorrow afternoon, and then out for the weekend. Maybe I'll try to yoga balance on a river float for the gram/fun.
