raptron Posted August 17, 2018 Author Report Share Posted August 17, 2018 Day 1.4 I came up with a brilliant solution to my travel issue for workouts this week. I did the squats + bench from the prescribed workout PLUS the deadlifts I was supposed to do next workout in one. Then I can just do the OHP and all of the accessories today in my work gym during lunch or whatever. Genius! However, it did mean the deadlifts were very hard and I went touch and go on most instead of resetting like a good puller. So today, I have to do: ohp, chins, dips, hypers, rows, and abs. VERY doable in a work gym. Tonight we head out west for a river float, but it doesn't look like the weather is going to be very good. We'll see what happens. Day 1.5 Work gym workout! 1 mile run warm-up 5 x 5 x 75# OHP 4 x 5 dips 5 x 2 chin-ups 5 x 12 banded lat pull-downs 3 x 25 x 50# hypers 4 minutes of leg lifts Headed home, packed, and set off for adventure! We got dinner on the way out and came to the cabin in the middle of a huge thunderstorm driving on back roads -- very adventure. It was a pretty cute lake cabin with lots of strange black bear and apple decor. Like A LOT. So much that I was inspired to create a side storyline about a wizard that turns those who displease him into decorations in his grotto and the PCs will have to beseech him to turn a missing prince back from a hanging clock -- maybe even including a "well you have to figure out which item in the house is him!" type puzzle. Day 1.6 The weather was definitely a mixed bag! It was warm, maybe 80, but the river was incredibly high from all of the rain. Our float, which is normally about 6 hours, was only 2 given the river speed! Which is probably for the best because it was a bit cold in there. I did a decent amount of swimming along the floats and backstroking to actually keep us from running into stuff. We missed our turn off and had to really struggle to pull our floatilla back to shore, but managed to not keep floating down the river too far. I did some down dog and three-legged dog on my donut float. There is a video somewhere that I hope to get eventually? Here's a mediocre still though from some point in my adjusting process: We had bonfire time, tried to teach a bunch of drunks how to play Betrayal at the House on the Hill (it did not go well, lol), and went to bed kind of early! Day 1.7 Woke up, made breakfast, hung out inside, went down to the lake, paddle boated, did some dock flips (this is NOT how you are supposed to set but I didn't want to clip the dock at all ) : Made some lunch, and then we were back to reality. I watched a bunch of the US gymnastics Nationals coverage (from an illegal stream because I didn't even want USAG to have a single cent of my advertising money). DID YOU GUYS SEE JORDAN CHILES' WONDER WOMAN LEOTARD? Amazing. I worked almost entirely on front tumbling, threw in a tiny bit of balance beam, and ended with 10 low bar kips and 5 high bar kips as "conditioning" + 5 press handstands off of varying heights of the panel mat, as I can't QUITE manage it off the floor right now (it's been a while since I worked on them). Plan for this week -- T: squat and bench W: deads and ohp Th: more gymnastics?? raptron Posted August 23, 2018 Author Report Share Posted August 23, 2018 Day 2.3 Deadlift and ohp day~ I started with 280# for deads and it just WAS NOT MOVING, so I bumped it down to 270#. I still had some struggles. I think my positioning was entirely off -- the bar kept wanting to drift forward and I felt like I was not using my posterior chain enough at all. So for the lighter sets I really focused on trying to get things sorted. 280# is something I've done for 2 before, so 3 seems reasonable, and AT LEAST ONE OFF THE GROUND PLEASE?! I'll have someone take a look at the next deadlift day. I think it was just off. OHP was surprisingly easy for the first time in a while. Maybe it was just a topsy-turvy kind of day. We kicked off our D&D campaign last night! We adjusted how we were going to get the campaign started (decided to do our railroading background narrative now rather than trying to work it in through bizarre flashbacks and the like) and this was the part of the story that my co-DM was really excited about (our PCs are dead and facing court for the crimes/allegiances to various archdevils only to be whisked away by some legal loophole that puts them in service of a greater quest temporarily and boots them back into the material plane) , so he handled the first session. I'm tagging in for next session, which means I only did SOME prep and not nearly enough for my upcoming session, which will either be next week or in two weeks. Bench accessories: 6/12 Fun physical challenge: 1/4 M-Th meals out: 1 WIP Projects: 0/3 GtDD, 2/4 Underdark, 0/1 budget, 0/1 driving practice Gymnastics practice tonight and I managed to remember to bring my lifting belt back home with me after the gym last night for my squat workout tomorrow. I hope to work on my GtDD a bit this weekend (as I'll surely have plenty of practice) during the day on Friday or Saturday. I have to still think of a fun physical challenge for the weekend -- though I do have a shitty press handstand/cast handstand drill I could maybe do tonight. I ALSO have a pretty freaking cool dress for the wedding and maybeeee have some ideas about imitating Jessie Graff and trying to get a handspring or walkover photo in it.... Have you guys seen anything fun or interesting on the internet to imitate lately? Share them with meeee if you think they are even remotely possible for me to attempt! raptron Posted August 27, 2018 Author Report Share Posted August 27, 2018 Day 2.4 Gymnastics practice was a mixed bag on Thursday. My body was pretty beat up from the previous workouts so I didn't feel particularly spritely or springy. I practiced some tumbling, worked on balance beam dance, SPLIT the beam on a switch leap (and surprisingly didn't bruise up too badly...? at least?), and did some uneven bars to round out the day. Plus more press handstand work for conditioning because I do want to brush those off and have them back in my pocket of skills. I'm using about a 2" block at the moment and they're very inconsistent. Day 2.5 Took an early ferry over and enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL weather that lasted the entire weekend. Went shopping and enjoyed beer and karaoke and met excellent new people while spending time with some of my faves who I don't get to see all that often! I meant to lift on Friday, but started drinking a bit early and didn't exactly want to interrupt a good time with a workout. Day 2.6 I DID manage to lift on Saturday though -- a bit sleep deprived and definitely a bit hungover, but still got it in. The day pass was more expensive than I'd like to have paid but I've got that meet coming up so I really didn't want to miss this workout. Then ice cream and more frozen drinks and a tiny bit of pool time and witnessing a GLORIOUS UNION and working on my best Jessie Graff in formalwear impression (there's a video in the second slide): Followed by DANCING and probably way too much vodka and dragging half of a beach's worth of sand into bed with me. Day 2.7 Woke up way too early given the evening's festivities but I couldn't fall back asleep, so I read by the pool in the morning. Later, we got lobster rolls, wandered around town, went to a bar (mostly to charge my phone), laid on the beach, napped a little bit on the ferry. Once I was back in Boston, I met up with my friend who is moving to NYC for a goodbye/good luck drink... or several. I walked home from the bar later and went to bed way too late for like the 4th day in a row. I'M VERY TIRED AND VERY POOR NOW, YOU GUYS. M: LABOR DAY THANK GOD I still don't know what I'm going to wear to the wedding this weekend, and I missed a chance to go over to my friend's yesterday to try on some of her dresses because I was too tired. I still need to plan the D&D session for tomorrow.
