New Challenge is here and I have literally no idea what to do, so I am opening the floor to a vote! For the absolute first time in history*, a challenge will be decided by THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE (who happen to be on this website)

 

My fellow Rangers and Other Guilds who are not Rangers, I invite you to pick one of the following and it will be my goal for the challenge:

 

A: put 15 pounds on my 1-rep max deadlift

B: Run two miles without stopping and/or crying like a little bitch

C: Hike 10 miles with a 10-pound pack

D: do 30 burpees over bar (I reserve the right to step over the bar in deference to my knees if necessary) 

 

 Let me know your preference and whichever goal gets the most votes will be my challenge. 

 

Pick my suffering! IT IS YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY.

Another vote for C.  Being able to hike 10 miles with a 10-lb pack will get you to way more exciting places than burpees.  Well, unless you love Spartans!

No new pr's this season, sadly. I spoke with the Mantis about not wanting to go to savannah and bomb out, and he reminded me that there was no shoe contract on the line and we should just go and have fun. I'll probably do the 37 mile route. [pouty bat face]

Burpees over bar (or box)  is where you do a burpee, then jump over a barbell/box and do the next one. They suck extra hard.

 

 

You know, I'm watching this now and realizing I do a full pushup within my burpee. Maybe I'm doing them extra hard? I should stop that.

I got off work last night early enough to go to gym. Very exciting. I did Crossfit 17.1, which was a workout from the open competition in 2017. It's ascending ladders of dumbell snatches broken up by 15 burpees per round, and it SUUUUUUUUCKED. I got thru 4 round before my body would no longer respond to command, so I did at total of 105 snatches and 60 burpees, broken up by copious water breaks and some barely concealed crying.

 

I got to be used as an example at the gym last night, which I always enjoy. Some kid was working with Mr Curtis and was NOT enjoying himself and  Mr Curtis pointed over to me and told the kid, "you see that lady doin' all those burpees? You think she's enjoying that? NO! She ain't. Now get back on that treadmill and stop whining."

 

Good times.

Yeah, what you are doing are strict burpees. You can pretty much flop to the ground and kinda roll up (like a knees down push up) to conserve energy. If you ever find yourself in a Spartan race I strongly advise against strict burpees (I've perfected a hella slow burpee technique for that occasion!)

I just went back to the CF website and watched their videos of how to do burpees, and I shall now bask in my superiority for doing the "strict" ones. But I'll do the easy kind next time they come up!

Personally, I say keep doing them strict.  Executing the movement correctly will give you the best adaptive improvements, and isn't that the point of training? 

The guy in the video you posted was doing them very poorly, and had I been his coach I'd have awarded him zero reps for that miserable performance.

Putting in my vote for B. Running for 2 miles straight is something I can only daydream about at this point. Following for the awesome, regardless of which challenge you end up with.

You aren't wrong but it also somewhat limits how quickly you can transition through them so it might limit some of the conditioning improvements that you see from burpees with an added increase in strength gain. For my own part the only time I get serious about burpees is when I'm racing Spartan and then it's more about perfecting the technique you are actually going to use race day to make them as efficient as possible.

Gonna throw my vote in for C cause I don't want your knees to suffer too much with D and it's something I want to try when I can. :P (It might be too late, but not in my timezone).

Crossfit standard is to do them perpendicular to the bar, and I'm waiting for the day I don't step back far enough and put my forehead through the barbell
