Darkfoxx 49: Sun, You Won’t Defeat Me

Recommended Posts

Or, to put it eloquently:

Summer where I am sux0rs on all the levels and lasts for-freaking-ever.

Luckily, kids have to go to school - expat wives & families have to return - and schedules eventually go back to whatever “normal” consists of in a place that experience scheduled schedule shifts a solid 2-3 months out of the year.

As far as I know, building yoga comes back in September - as do Arabic classes.

Buuuuuuuut I now have a whole other thing going on, so ...

Goal The First

Continue on with the trainer for this 4-week cycle (which will take me to the end of August), and see what we can work out for September. I have a max of 12 weeks with him before I’m cut off. Trainers are expensive.

We have a Monday/Thursday schedule, and it looks like arms + back then legs and sneaky core (at least going on this first weeks’ workouts).

He’s happy with my yoga and thinks I should continue that 1-2 Days a week. I’ll co to us going to either my bougie place during the week - or to the hotel spa thing with DH on Saturdays when that’s around until my building chick comes back and I can do that again. There is also another yoga person starting back up Sunday evenings nearby - and we can combo that with scheduled dinner with friends in the same tower.

Goal The Second

With this new fitness overlord comes new macros:

1350 is my BMR (this is consistent with what I’ve always calculated it at), so stick under that in rest days; he allows for some weekend shenans

130g protein - which has surprisingly been hard af for me to hit this past week

70-something carbs - since I like low carb anyways (and that’s what works for my body)

80-something in fats (also seems reasonable - I’m not shooting for Keto atm)

Goal The Third

2 videos (YouTube)

1 recipe post (blog)

7 picture of the day posts (blog)

2-3 Instagram posts (x2 for both accounts)

2 Group social outings

1-2 one or two-on-one social outings

1 combined friends & hubbies outing

Pupper walks after sunset

Take 1 weekday of rest for me - research a destination or learn something about editing

Keep up with my Nerd herd

Ranger Mini!!

Antoni (cooking): Make something fab this week that doesn’t involve rotisserie chicken or roasted veggies

Tan (wardrobe): Finally go through the damn thing, cull, try shit on, and write down gaps

Karamo (culture): Do something - MIA since it’s air conditioned if I damn have to

Bobby (batcave): Come up with a plan for dehumidification before this ish starts to grow mold

Jonathan (grooming): Get a haircut. Barring that, a massage.

Yay Week 1!

Monday

Macros were ok-ish - DH was *supposed* to bring home protein powder, which would have put me on target with protein -- but he forgot, and I couldn't force more food into my face for the day.

1163 calories

81g carbs

53g fat

90g protein

Arms and back day with the trainer - did a whole bunch of stuff (obvs) - including TRX push-ups and bodyweight rows, deadlifts, and some other stuff - went up in both weights and reps for each set of things.

TRX push-ups and rows are awesome.

They were so fun - and sneaky hard - and worked shit I didn’t know existed. Can’t wait to do them again!

Tuesday

Coffee & smoothie

Tuesday group & a coffee

Mall walk & lunch - shrimp guacamole salad

Came home and cooked for the mini

Low carb paleo falafel & rotisserie chicken for dinner

My first protein shake filled with hyperbole powder to round out my protein macro

1300 Calories
76g carbs
59g fats
138g protein

Arms and shoulders were a bit sore, as were thighs (probably from using my legs too much during deadlifts) but nothing too terrible.

Looking at available yoga classes today, Friday, and during the weekend. I’m making it to at least 1 - fingers crossed the cheaper classes come back soon!

Wednesday

Wednesday Group - had an egg white/chia seed omelette with salad, 2 coffees with soy & 1 of the 2 macaroons my coffee came with while out

Miscalculated how hungry I was again and got the spins while walking home (22mins in and out of ac/104 degree heat)

Drank my smoothie when I got home

That did zero for my hunger - had my Protein hyperbole shake

Laid down for a bit - watched history documentaries

Dinner was rotisserie chicken & shiritaki rice with butter & baby chard chucked in for some green

134g protein

Thursday

Smoothie & coffee for breakfast

Leg day with the trainer - worked on better Split squat and lunge posture, he broke out the foot slider things that are the devil, more rowing - 400m rounds this time, lots of bridges.

Had a surprisingly good chicken tikka salad and actual legit unsweet tea for lunch while catching up with a girlfriend

Also had a Diet Coke - which tasted just a bit *too* good, so I’m seriously thinking about doing another Whole30 running the last day of August - September 29 (September 30 is a travel day and there is no way in hell thats happening).

Hubby came home early and picked me up.

Squandered the day playing with his new ridiculous fitness watch.

Dinner was chicken & roasted butternut squash.

And what is a chia seed omelet?  Cooking instructions???

I think it’s called the Fenix 5? It’s huge and has a crazy amount of stats - plus about a zillion faces. It’s scratching DH’s need for metrics + I think comes with testosterone dust or something.

I have inherited his FitBit Versa - and it’s ok so far. I miss the metal band and casing I had with my Alta.

For the omelette, it looked to be cooked standard egg white omelette style - i.e. looked like fried egg whites with a tablespoon of chia seeds sprinkled in, topped with a hand full of salad, a spritz of oil and lemon juice, and like 2 roasted tomatoes.

Gimme a bit to work through the chia seeds I just bought that include cranberry dust and I’ll think of a more exciting recipe for you.

My brain reaaaaally wants to combo berries, egg whites & fish sauce today; lemme work through that craziness first

Friday

Coffee for breakfast

Did jack shit but set up my inherited FitBit and read my book all day

Lunch was leftover cauliflower falafel & chicken

Snacked on some nuts

Laid down because I was stomach bloated like a burpy pufferfish all day

Dinner was a Caribbean chicken salad from a “Mexican” place (had 1 chip - was pissed it had no salt - didn’t return to the bag)

Protein shake after dinner to hit (closer to) macros

Yesterday

Coffee & almonds grabbed at the gas station to waive off nausea

Mall walk with DH

Lunch was meatballs & some kinda crappy roasted potatoes at a pizza place

Grocery shopping

Dinner was deli marinated chicken with leftover low carb falafel

Protein shake to hit my macros

Aaaand I think I have to admit that the protein shake is what’s making me so damn bloated - I blame the maltodextrin

First up before I forget: this week’s mini is the Tan feat, so I’ll be going through my wardrobe. Also: Karamo was also announced, so I’ll be doing something cultural. Which fits perfectly, since it’s Eid (2) and I wanted to do some research and post about that.

I may also bump up my Jonathan feat (grooming), because my hair is driving me nuts.

Yesterday

Coffee & smoothie for breakfast
Another mall walk
Baked seafood for lunch
Made my 10,000 Steps
Pupper walk
Made burgers for dinner

Arm day with the trainer - and more sneaky cardio. Met the aerodyne bike and it can suck a bag of dicks.

Battle ropes are sad when you’re so weak you can only make the rope wiggle halfway.

Why do I find sled pushes fun? I blame OCRs.

Also upped deadlift reps and did the full squat down kind.

Still hate bench presses.

Forgot to eat lunch until 2:30 - forced some chicken down

Cooked dinner all damn day - made as close an approximation as I could get with the ingredients available barbacoa — in the damn oven because my electric pressure cooker up and died. It took 6 hours. I hate the olden days.

Sounds like a fun workout.

It was, actually - despite the pouting.

Welcome to the suck.

Thought you might find that humorous.

The trainer saw my face and hobble and has assured me that I’ll see it again.

Truth!

I have zero idea how to pace myself - that’s about the mark my brain raccoon starts screaming that my legs are going to fall off and my arms are going to quit working.

Yesterday

Coffee & smoothie for breakfast - this week, it’s been 1 scoop of hyperbole powder, 2 Tbsp. sugar-free peanut butter, 2 Tbsp. chia + cranberry powder, 4 pucks (about 1/2 cup) frozen spinach, a big hand full frozen berries + 1 cup water

Coffee Morning was fine - had tea

Walked the mall a bit; forced myself to have lunch before it got into shakes territory

Went to a South African grill place that turns out to be the damn meat store of my dreams - had the butcher mix grill - picked 100g lamb chops + 100g boerwers(sp?) sausage with a side of veggies. Ate 1 slice of bread so I could get at the olive butter & the sauce that came with the little sausage bit amuse

Well, that was a buttload Of Calories and I wasn’t really actually hungry until bedtime, so I had some cherry tomatoes and 1 bite of gross almond cheese for dinner

1297 calories
62g carbs
77g fat
88g protein

Shared my thoughts on hitting macros for meat v going over on Calories; DH was less than supportive (which, although I’m not a fan of less support is probably objectively a good thing since he’s right and workout anorexia is a thing as well -still grumpy about it though)

Culture feat complete: filmed & posted a video on Eid

Yesterday

Coffee & smoothie

Trainer workout - legs + cardio - I knew they were coming: burpees. And they still suck ass.

Also allthelunges + lots of squeaking because my legs were still pissed from the bike Monday + box step ups + damn glute bridges with the foot slider things + some sort of backwards curlicue thing that I thought would be more enjoyable than it was because I was tired and life was hard.

Also got cardio over the weekend homework.

Pout.

Came home and did most of a half hour yoga video - vinyasas were too taxing, and pupper is absolutely zero help when it comes to yogas.

Leftover rotisserie chicken & cherry tomatoes for lunch

Dinner was leftover “barbacoa” over cauli mash

Snack nuts

Only 1 of my 2 cups of nightly ‘quit snacking’ tea

DH brought a bro shake home called teddy bear night night and we tried that before bed

132g protein

Touched the computer but didn’t do anything productive on it except for research into local travel
Agreed to accompany DH to Kuwait, providing I can get a second exit visa on the visa I’m on

Yesterday

Coffee & smoothie

Met with a dog walker to get pupper her own weekly social schedule

Met up with a girlfriend

Went to Arabic - which was damn cancelled - had a bar before class was set to start and sat there and drank a coffee instead. Met some girls that were also there for class.

Came home and did my Tan (wardrobe) feat: went through it and chucked some things I don’t really like. I’m up to 104 items of clothing - underwear and shoes - moved with 91 including underwear and shoes.

Still need to categorize and prioritize so I know what gaps I have - if any - and if not, what I want to replace with better quality.

Delivery Asian for dinner

Teddy Bear Night Night again before bed. Magnesium makes my hard palate feel weird.

Yesterday

Coffee & protein shake for breakfast

Went hunting for a new slow cooker or electric pressure cooker - hit 4 LuLus (one of the better grocery/other shit stores in the area) and snagged the last one - some brand I’ve never heard of and will probably last 6 months, but at least it theoretically makes rice + slow cooks meats.

Bunless camel burger with too much haloumi and half my sweet potato fries for lunch

Hit the last LuLu afterward - grabbed groceries after snagging the pot

Came home and read a bunch in bed because the living room smelled like chemicals from the reno going on next door

Had deli Chicken 65 (Indian fried chicken) for dinner
