Juliebarkley is back to collecting underpants

Recommended Posts

Julie strolled through the swamp, as she always did on her way home from work. The wind was quite gusty, and she pulled her jacket tighter around her neck to keep out its chilly fingers. It was only another kilometre until she reached home, and her mind was running through all of the things she had planned when she got there.

Then something white flew across the path. Well, more like blew across the path.

Underpants.

Underpants?

She looked up, paying more attention to the view around her. Underpants, in that tree. Underpants, floating in the pond. Underpants, in the cattails. Underpants, in the squirrel nest. Underpants, in far more awkward places than they had any right to be. Underpants everywhere.

What is going on here?

She didn't know. She just knew that it couldn't stay this way. Her job now was to Collect Underpants - and get rid of them.

Hi.

Life ambushed me unexpectedly in the last challenge, and I ended up abandoning it a week in. I'm about two weeks late now, so two partial challenges together = 1 whole one? If I include the next zero week? This is exactly the same challenge as before though.

1. Pick up those underpants. No one else will do it for you. Roll the D20 of procrastination every day.

They stress me out whenever I think about them, and they make me feel like I have no time for anything important. By sucking away my time, energy, and willpower, they are keeping me from doing things that are more important to me. Time to focus on making them gone. Or at least, a lot smaller.

2. Darn awkward underpants! Am I strong enough to get them all? Work on backbends and plank every day, and pushups at the usual time.

Progress has been made! I can walk down the wall to the floor with a spotter helping. I want to be able to do it confidently alone next! Plank, I did neglect unfortunately. I managed to complete my squat goal, so I should probably set a new one.

I seem to have stalled at around 20 pushups max for several weeks. However, my everyday strength seems to be improving, so I'm hoping that whatever muscle is holding me back will get itself in gear so I can move up.

3. Keep picking up underpants, every day. Keep up daily habits.

The Life Ambush wrecked me again. Argh. Time to get back to it. Two daily prayers, daily scripture, weekly worship, checking in, woo!

4. I'm not sure I can get that pair... Do something scary every day.

I may not be able to do this every every day, but that is the goal. Scary can be big or small, but it should move me in a positive direction to count. Try new things. Be bad at things, but do them anyway. Do stuff I have been putting off because it makes me nervous. You get the picture. Example: I found a stale-dated cheque under my couch from a former boss. In order to cash it, I have to ask her to rewrite it. Kind of scary!

In weight lifting, when you stall you lower the weight and work your way back up, often while doing a larger number of repetitions, in one or more sets. Could you do something similar? Perhaps scale back to  slightly easier form of pushups, and do 30 of them two or three times, then go back to normal ones and see if that takes you past 20?

The Great Reading Thread of 2023

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.

What's your current pushup training routine?

Don't worry too much about this.  In most cases the payment was already recorded in the books as an expense but it stays in accounts payable until the check clears, so having the check outstanding but not cashed is often more of a headache than reissuing the check.
