That is indeed the correct cabbage vendor. Though not, I believe, this episode. It's never a good day to be a cabbage vendor.

ETA: I tell a lie, it is this episode.

My sleep needs are apparently on the order of seven hours minimum. Also, no wonder I got home last night and went, "Nope, not doing anything but make dinner". I apparently used up all my Doing Stuff at work.

New thing: I'm gonna schedule times in the day to ask myself if I need to rest. This is, like, a mindfulness thing where I need to be more clued in to my physical and mental tiredness before it gets out of hand.

I sort of forgot to eat or drink before going to aikido. It was fine, but I am now drinking all the water and eating all the brisket. And "all the brisket" might not be a humorous exaggeration.

Small class today. Full of complicated shit with tons of pain compliance. So basically the brain and the wrists both took a beating. And one of the guys I trained with, he's always right at the edge of what I can take, which I like, but man, I'm gonna bruise up good from his blocks. Probably not from his atemi, but it's serious atemi. (And the dude throws hard, often right at where I start to lose control of it. Though I didn't take falls tonight, I reinjured my ankle last time I trained with this guy. Not his fault, my ankle wasn't as ready as it seemed. So I'm going to class, just not stressing the ankle.)

Well, if the brisket disappears, I'll get some barbacoa going tomorrow morning for dinner tomorrow night. Wish I had it now, I could use some chili and garlic. Basically I'm in a phase where I always feel better after tons of chili and garlic.

Need more sleep. Yeah, I dunno, there were probably reasons.

Bending Lessons: Episode 2x19 The Guru

1. Always check people's passports.

2. Kidnapping small children is not always as easy as you think.

3. In order to master the Avatar state, you must open all the chakras.

4. The Earth chakra at the base of the spine is blocked by fear. Surrender those fears.

5. The water chakra deals with pleasure, and is blocked by guilt. Accept the reality that these things happened, and forgive yourself. Because this is a children's show, you have to figure out where this one is located on your own.

6. Follow your passion, and life will reward you. With tea and adorably cloying family moments.

7. The fire chakra in the stomach deals with willpower, and is blocked by shame.

8. The fourth chakra, located in the heart, deals with love, and is blocked by grief. Lay all your grief out in front of you.

9. The sound chakra is located in the throat. It's the chakra of truth, and is blocked by the lies we tell ourself.

10. The life chakra is located in the center of the forehead. It deals with insight, and is blocked by illusion. The greatest illusion is the illusion of separation. Everything is connected.

11. The thought chakra is located at the crown of the head. It deals with your cosmic energy, and is blocked by earthly attachment. Meditate on whatever attaches you to this world and let them go.

12. Even though three chakras ago, they were a good thing.

13. Seriously, does nobody check passports or ID around here?

14. Don't taunt the little blind girl. She'll kick your ass really hard.

Garden update: Both types of basil are thriving like crazy, and the oregano is close behind. The rosemary looked like it was going to do surprisingly well, but I think I overspritzed. I still have, like, 1.8 of them, though. Unexpectedly, the mint is struggling. Nearly all the sprigs didn't make it. But I have one really healthy one that's having a growth spurt, and the little snippet I stuck in for fun also rooted. So I guess I can wait. I didn't expect the basil to give me tons of lush leaves while the mint died, though.

Also, the bunch of scallions I planted a while back are still happy. I'm not sure if I planted them too shallowly or let them get too tall, but probably the latter. I have given them a big eight inch haircut, and they're more stable and still probably twice as tall as they were in the store. I need to cut those more aggressively, leaves have been doing of old age before I get to them.

Next up will be a pot of garden cress, which is a super fast growing peppery salad leaf I just found out about. It's not bothered by being super crowded, so I'm going to start by filling up the other half of the scallion pot with it. I should be able to clip it for lots of salad. Eventually I'll get a pot of arugula going, and that should make me pretty close to self-sufficient on salad.

This week I'm volunteering at the community garden. I might be able to get half a plot by winter, in which case, I can probably keep myself in kale and arugula till spring.

Yay for successful gardening!

I brought my pots of rosemary, thyme and parsley onto the porch earlier this week because we had frost warnings. Tonight they have to come in the house if I want to keep them going. Elf cooked with fresh rosemary for the first time last week. :encouragement: My tarragon did very poorly. I think something was eating it. Next year I will keep it inside the porch.

I'm tempted to envy your winter gardening, but by this time of year I'm happy to take a break from it. I do miss the wider variety of fresh produce available in the summer. I hope you get a garden plot soon so you can grow all the things.

The gardening depends on being able to get a plot, apart from my windowsill, which I just water once a week.

I actually don't mind the work, because there's nowhere to walk at work, but the garden is very close, so an excuse to stretch my legs for ten minutes now and then is worth it. Also, I plan to be a lazy gardener.

Rosemary is hard. It's very picky about water. I've killed a lot of rosemary. Mint has always been indestructible, though. You can weaken it, but not kill it. This is the closest I've ever got, and I don't understand it.

I'm gonna go for some thyme, soon. I have access to some cuttings that, I think. I may get another rosemary cutting while I'm there.

I also have access to a massive amount of communal basil. Like four cubic feet of it, that grows back with interest when it's harvested. I might take a bunch and make some not-pesto. (Just the garlic and basil. I can't be bothered with cheese and nuts. Maybe also a sun-dried tomato version.)

I might do one more Avatar challenge before heading back to Ankh-Morpork. I need more gifs. I just hate doing those on my phone.
