Goal update for day 3/28 of the challenge!

 

Nutrition

  • Eat at least three meals every day (3/28)
    • Had four meals :) 
  • Eat nut butter at least two times every week (Week 1: 1/2 - Week 2: 0/2 - Week 3: 0/2 - Week 4: 0/2)
    • Ate "Ants on a log"
  • Eat at least two fruits per week (Week 1: 2/2 - Week 2: 0/2 - Week 3: 0/2 - Week 4: 0/2)

 

Fitness

  • Learn warm up by heart
    • I did the entire warm up routine, in the correct order, and without missing any exercise! 
  • Perform warm up every day that I'm at home (3/3)
  • Learn cool down by heart
    • I've gone back to just following along on the pdf. I know the first, standing, part. But all the sitting/laying down stretches are just really hard to remember. 
  • Perform cool down every day that I'm at home (3/3)

    • Had four meals :) (plus an unplanned snack :()
  • Eat nut butter at least two times every week (Week 1: 2/2 - Week 2: 0/2 - Week 3: 0/2 - Week 4: 0/2)
    • Ate a slice of an apple with peanut butter. I prefer almond butter with my apples, but the rest of the family wanted PB...
  • Eat at least two fruits per week (Week 1: 2/2 - Week 2: 0/2 - Week 3: 0/2 - Week 4: 0/2)

 

Fitness

  • Learn warm up by heart
    • I did the entire warm up routine, in the correct order, and without missing any exercise!
    • Two times in a row now!
  • Perform warm up every day that I'm at home (4/4)
    • Close call today! Had forgotten all about this, but finally remembered half an hour before midnight! 
  • Learn cool down by heart
    • I've gone back to just following along on the pdf. I know the first, standing, part. But all the sitting/laying down stretches are just really hard to remember.

So, let's talk NF Diet Level

 

Let's assume that I start at Level 1, and see if I can level up to level 2.

 

This is what the NF diet pdf says:

I can level up to LEVEL 2 when: I spend one week tracking my food diligently. I don’t make any changes, but I’m just AWARE of the foods that I am eating. Whether it’s taking pictures of every meal, keeping a simple food journal, or tracking calories through an online tracker, I track EVERYTHING I eat.

 

I think we can safely say I've tracked my food for at least one week :) So I'm leveling up to level 2. Let's see what it takes to get to level 3.

I can level up to LEVEL 3 when: I start minimizing liquid calories for one week. Liquid calories are a HUGE problem for weight gain, and I’m going to work on cutting back on them. Whether it’s juice, gatorade, soda, frapuccinos, or alcoholic beverages, I make a significant progress over a one week period to drink less liquid calories.

 

I had some raw pressed apple juice (100% apples only, nothing else added) on my wife's birthday party a little less than a week ago. But other than that, I haven't had anything to drink with calories in it. No wine, beer or regular soda (only diet soda). I also turned down the offer to add honey to my tea when we were visiting friends yesterday. But no, I can't say "I make a significant progress over a one week period to drink less liquid calories". The last seven days I have not been drinking less liquid calories than the seven days before that. So I guess I'm still at NF Diet Level 2.

 

But just for fun, let's see what it takes to level up to level 4.

Nope. Had a thin crispbread for breakfast yesterday, and that contains grains. So no go.

 

Final verdict: I'm at NF Diet Level 2

 

To level up to level 3 I'll have to completely eliminate all liquid calories for one week. (I think I'll cheat a little bit and allow myself some sugar free energy drinks. They usually have between 5 - 10 kcal per can.)

After that I'll try to make it level 4, which means no crispbreads with eggs, and no oatmeal for breakfast for two weeks. Should be doable. My regular quark+kefir+nuts+berries breakfast is totally fine to eat for two weeks for example :)

    • Got the first 9 steps done in the correct order, then I had to look at the pdf for the rest 
  • Perform cool down every day that I'm at home (5/5)

Time to adjust the goals a little bit ;) 

The reason I wanted to do the warm up and cool down routines every day was to really grind them in, to learn them by heart. Now I that I know the warm up, I think I'm going to stop doing it every day. The reason for that is that I feel that my body needs the rest from exercise the days I don't do my NF body weight training. Especially my legs! So from now on I'll continue to do the warm up before my regular workout. Anything more than that is a bonus that I'll perform if I feel like it :) 

 

I'll continue to do my stretches/cool down, at least until I know that by hart as well. After that I'll do it in connection to my regular workout, just as with the warm up. But, stretching is always good, so maybe I'll continue doing that every day even after I've imprinted it in my memory. We'll see...

 

Since I'll always do the routines at least three times per week, I'll just remove it as separate goals. So the updated fitness goals are much simpler :)

So far so good :) 

First week is always the easiest, right? Everything is new and shiny, and motovation is on top! It's towards the end, when motivation goes down it's easier to start slipping! That's when I'm gonna need a bit of help from the awesome community here :)

    • Oops, did one of the exercises a bit early in the routine. But I realized my mistake without looking at the cheat sheet, and I did all the exercises. So I'm gonna call it good enough :) 
  • Learn cool down by heart
    • Once again I got the 9 first movements correctly, but then I had to look at the pdf. Now, writing this, I realize I know step 10 as well. So next time I'll do the first 10 steps correctly. (Step 10 is cat/camel) And since I looked I know that step 11 is child's pose. So, if I can remember, maybe I'll get the first 11 steps in the right order next time :)

Found this:

  • 1 cup = your fist
  • 1 ounce = the meaty part of your thumb
  • 1 tablespoon = your thumb, minus the meaty part
  • 1 teaspoon = the tip of your index finger
  • 1 inch = the middle section of your index finger
  • 1-2 ounces of a food like nuts or pretzels = your cupped hand
  • 3 ounces of meat, fish, or poultry = the palm of your hand

 

These are approximations so keep that in mind if you use them. :)

    • Had an apple with my evening meal

    • Got the 9 first movements correctly, but then I did movement 10 and 11 in the wrong order. I realized this as soon as I had done them. Knowing that I already screwed up the order, I just went ahead and did the rest of the movements that I could remember, without caring about order. When I looked at the pdf later I had only forgotten about one movement.

It's a vegan lentil and black bean pasta dish. This way I get to unlock both the black bean pasta I bought, and the red lentil pasta :)

Ooh, oat milk. I haven't tried that one! How did it taste?

It's a small 'oops', but it's not like you went out and got a beer or a full sugar soda or something. I think you should just forgive yourself and move on like nothing happened. :)

Failed the "Don't drink liquid calories" quest. NOT going to fail the other one! I am going to upgrade my batcave :D

 

One of the things I'm doing is decluttering my desk. So I can actually fit a piece of paper to take notes on for work...

Actually got a head start on this a while ago.

But, as I said, I got a head start on this, and that "after" photo is actually from the 16th this month. 10 days ago. But the real win here is that I've actually kept it fairly clean since then!

The kids have put their computer on the desk as well, but that's totally fine. 

 

Another thing I was going to do was to hang my pull up bar, and keep it hanging there to make it faster to get started with my workouts (i.e. make them more efficient). And also to encourage just hanging in the bar, or even try a pull up, whenever I pass by it :)

Wow, that is a great after (at least for my minimalism-heart :D )

What did you do with all the stuff?

And may I ask which laptop brand this is? It looks familiar (Sony Vaio) but I am not really sure.

And big thumbs up for the bar! I have a small one myself (that can be clamped into the door frame) and I am doing at least one chin up when I walk through.

All the clothes got put away in their drawers, where they should be. A lot of the pieces of paper I had laying around got thrown in the recycle bin, or in the furnace. Random crap I just threw out. Kind of hard to tell, but below the desk there is a small hatch/door that leads to a small space under the stairs to the attic. That's where I put the printer and the paper for the printer. We don't print very often, and when we do we can just open the small door and get the printed papers.

 

My laptop is a Dell XPS 15. The kids have an old Asus X202E 13 inch touchscreen computer.

Following! The decluttering is wonderful. Inspires me to take another run at my desk....I have to declutter it every month or so to keep it clean, because my desk is the center of so many activities and responsibilities in my life that clutter just seems to accumulate like weeds.
