I am travelling to Europe next week to travel and visit my in-laws (and meet my mother-in-law, face to face, for the first time) so any elaborate goals would fall apart anyways. Focusing on simple sanity-saving goals seems like the way to go. Istanbul - stop#1 1. Heal Do the full set of prescribed physio exercises 2 out of 3 days. I have a tendency to skip the sillier-looking ones when I do them in a public place. 2. Protect Teeth will be thoroughly cleaned (flossing/electric toothbrush) at least once a day. They got their cleaning last week and I would like them to stay dentist-clean as long as possible. London - Stop#2 3. Prevent a) Write down 3 things before bed every night that I am grateful for. b) Aim for as many days as possible without pointless negative comments. Work is a bad place for this, with light-hearted bitching being part of the normal conversation. I have been trying this all week and so far only managed two days; it's harder than I thought! Examples from this week: "I can't believe the computers are down again. I thought they were supposed to make our lives easier, not harder" "Ugh, Mondays" "Why is it always 2am when your brain decides you must solve all known problems of the universe RIGHT NOW?" - I still want to know why! :D Mentioning problems is fine as long as it is for the purpose of solving them. Vienna - Stop#3 My stress levels have been building over the year as I have started to think more about being competitive at OCRs. The reality is, I will never be great. I can be better than I am today though, so once I get some detachment from how I compare to other OCR athletes I will be in a better place to start setting goals around fitness again. I actually had so much fun on vacation I kind of (completely) forgot about the challenge... oops. My mother-in-law was very nice and not at all as scary as I thought. I think it is only her children who are scared of her! Istanbul was chaotic and fun, but everyone there smokes and I ended up with a sinus infection from it. London was awesome and expensive! I bought some beautiful silk from a fabric store that supplies the Royal Family and will have it made into a shirt. Vienna was beautiful and peaceful. The opera (Onegan) was quite the experience too. He shows me some gorgeous ones in his woodworking magazines. Hopefully they will offer the class again. Woodworking is something that has always interested me but I don't have space (indoor or out) to have large tools, so inlay might be something I could do on my kitchen table. I was planning on making really horrible Christmas presents this year with it. Your husband's projects would be miles beyond what I can accomplish for now, but it sounds like a fun hobby. As fun as vacations are, it is great to be home and back to routine. Sadly I came back to full-blown winter ( a foot of snow, and it has snowed more every day). So, SAD protocols have been put into action. We will beat it this year! Yesterday was my first running rehab day: 3x (5 min walk/1 min run). Today my knee is all angry and cranky again... so I have to wait another week before trying again. I am getting worried this thing is never going to heal! And I am out of coverage for physiotherapy so any more sessions this year will be out-of-pocket. Kestrel Grey Posted October 12, 2018 Author Report Share Posted October 12, 2018 How did it get to the end of the challenge already? Yesterday I decided to start strength-focused training. The original plan was to just focus on running rehab for now, but since that is being uncooperative I feel the need to progress on something. Together with my rehab exercises it makes for long days though; yesterday morning about 2 hours in the gym. I'm going with full-body so I'm only in the gym every other day. My lost phone has been given up for dead, and I ordered the Samsung Galaxy 9 to replace it. Being without a phone is hard! I use it for the Kindle app more than anything and I miss my books.
