AverageFish's Challenge in Two Parts

Recommended Posts

I'm keeping two of my core goals this time:

1. Sleep: Again aiming for lights out 8 hours before the alarm goes off

2. Meditation: Again aiming for 10 minutes/day

The rest of my goal is split into two almost but not quite equal parts:

Part the first: on the road

3. Walking: This is usually not difficult since we'll walk everywhere once we reach our destination. I'm aiming for 15,000 steps/day

4. Reading: I love to read, but always have trouble finding/making time for it, even on vacation. This time I'm going to read for at least an hour a day.

Part the second: back to work

5. Productivity: Through my many time-tracking challenges, I've identified 2 key times during the week when I can either a) work really hard and stay on top of things or b) work less hard and fall hopelessly behind. The goal is obviously the former.

Those are great goals!

I never seem to find time to read anymore either. Have you tried audio books? That way you can read and do whatever you have to do at the same time.

What genres do you like to read?

Thanks Jupiter!

I have mixed feelings about audiobooks, at least for fiction. I suspect they can color the way I interpret how people and events in the book look, and sound and I usually like to come at that with my own imagination. And the one time I tried to listen to an audiobook my mind kept wandering and I had to keep rewinding. Full disclosure, that was long enough ago that I was listening a cassette tape. And now I listen to podcasts pretty regularly, so maybe my brain is more trained to take in information that way. I did recently get a voucher for a couple of free audiobooks, so I'll give it a try.

Goal 4: Reading 3/7

Week 2:

Goal 1: Sleep 5/7 this week, 10/14 challenge so far

Goal 2: Meditate 0/7 this week, 0/14 challenge so far

Goal 3: Walking 3/5 this week, 7/12 challenge total

Goal 4: Reading 4/5 this week, 7/12 challenge total

Goal 5: Productivity 0/1

Getting adequate sleep is easier on vacation (except for travel days), as are reading and walking

Meditation is easy to overlook on vacation, but the rapid increase in my stress level on my return to work tells me it's important to keep up even on vacation.

It's hard to be proactively productive when there's a boatload of work to catch up on when I get back from vacation.

On to week 3!

Week 3:

Goal 1: Sleep

Goal 4: Reading

Goal 5: Productivity

On to week 3!

Week 3:

Goal 1: Sleep 3/7 this week, 13/21 challenge so fo\ar

Goal 2: Meditate 0/7 this week, 0/21 challenge so far

Goal 3: Walking n/a (but I still had 3 days with 15,000 steps)

Goal 4: Reading n/a (but I've still read for about 1/2 hour each day)

Goal 5: Productivity 0/3 this week, 0/4 challenge so far

I knew going in this would be a bad week (lots of extra meetings) but I could have done better.

Sleep should be better this week since Mr. Fish has to get up early so we'll both be getting to bed earlier.

Plan for the final week: focus on meditation.

Week 4:

Goal 1: Sleep

Goal 2: Meditate

Goal 3: Walking

Goal 4: Reading

Goal 5: Productivity
