Thursday I came in later so as to avoid having tons of extra time only to find that our patient was transferred back into the ICU. It seems that I won't be able to win, so I will just come in when makes sense (somewhere in between). I still managed to pre round in time to do early rounds on everybody else. We got our notes done fairly early at which point my COMPUTER ACCESS finally came through. YAAAAAY! We had some down time while our attending did a bunch of other work, so I was able to catch up on some of the things in my inbox that had been ignored for a long time. In the afternoon I had a phone interview that went fairly well, and at the end they invited me to come interview in person. The next step is to send them some dates that will work for me. Yay. We saw another patient for a pre-transplantation evaluation, which was a good learning experience for our student, and then were done for the day at a more reasonable time. I headed home and decided to order Indian food for delivery. I did a bunch of writing and enjoyed dinner very much. I played some Stardew Valley and read some of the Lord of the Rings before falling asleep.

Yes, my sentiments too. They should have sorted things out by now? Hang in there, and sleep as much as you need to, because those sound like long, grueling hours on your feet!

Oh and this sounds like a much better day. Still busy, but good busy.

Good news and a better day in today's update!

Friday started off good with a reasonable rounding schedule on my first full day of having all the computer access. The afternoon had some nasty surprises though. One of my patient's had a very sad outcome. My attending wanted to go see another patient at the time that we are supposed to be done for the day, which extended things longer than necessary. When I got home, I found that the oven range had somehow crashed down and was dangling from wiring over the stove. The sadness for my patient and anxiety about whether or not the range would be counted against me were compounded by the fact that suddenly the internet wasn't working. I got rather anxious but was able to contact the host of the airbnb and get the maintenance guy to say that he would come the next morning. I chatted with a few friends and decided to close the doors so that Dragon couldn't get accidentally squished by the range if it decided to fall any more. I played Stardew Valley to distract myself. I talked with Amy Clover through the group that's going to disappear in two weeks time. She reached out to me and got me to journal and do some other important self care to calm down. I did some meditating before bed to help me get passed all the thoughts and emotions swirling around in my head.

Saturday was a hectic day in some ways but a satisfying one. I spent the morning playing some video games because the internet still wasn't working and I wasn't sure when the maintenance man was going to come over. When he did, he got the range reattached to the wall, yay!! He couldn't fix the lightbulb in the kitchen or the internet though, which was a bummer. Instead of sitting around moping, I decided to take myself out to Panera for lunch and to use their internet to write a bunch. Unfortunately, my laptop couldn't get on their internet. I was feeling very picked on, but decided that I was sick of feeling that way and that I was going to try to look for positives instead. This meant that I could write without the distractions of the internet, so I typed about 1000 words of journaling in a word document before I finished my tea and was ready to move along. From there I went to the most adorable little laundromat to do my laundry. They had working internet! So, I used that write while my laundry spun around. Next I went to the grocery store to stock up for the next week or so. By the time that I got home, the internet was working again. Huzzah! So, I put the groceries and the laundry away then kept typing (mostly journaling still). I had some tea and then decided to take a nap, which was lovely. The rest of the evening was spent writing, playing video games, and enjoying the company of my tiny furball, Dragon.

Further stuff to work on for the boundaries mini in the Rangers guild.

Week 2: As I hinted last week, this is a continuation of last week's quest. Some of you already have a head start on it. You're going to take the list from week 1 and expand it into two groups. Many things will likely be in both, and that's ok. For the first group we are dealing with reality. I want you to look at the week 1 list and look at things you actually spend time on. For the purposes of this exercise, lets look at a hypothetical "typical week." List the amount of time you spend on each activity in a week, rounded off to hours. You should have a total of 168 hours listed. If you find that your total number of hours doesn't equal 168, you either left some things out or are incorrect about how much time you spend on an activity.

The second group is not based in reality. Take a look at week 1's list and look at both what you actually do and what you want to do. Daydream about how much time each week (in hours) you want to spend on your activities. This does not have to add up to 168, in fact I'd be surprised if it did. The only caveat is you have to allow at least 6 hours for sleep (or attempts to sleep) each day. Hopefully you have more time for sleep. Other than that, have fun daydreaming.

Sounds like things came right and worked out in the end, the moment you started thinking positively. I need to try that ;)
Hope you have a great week and things work out at the hospital too.

Monday was back to work with a different attending, which means slightly relearning how things need to be done. So far, I'm enjoying working with this attending though, so I'm hopeful that my last two weeks won't be too bad. We had quite a bit of downtime, so I spent some time on small internet errands and getting some work done on my research, which was an excellent use of the time. When I got home, I was feeling pretty sad and a bit weird because of everything that's been going on and two really sad outcomes that my patients have had. I reached out on the bootcamp group and got a really concerned response from my health coach that seemed out of proportion to what I was saying. I reached out to a friend and talked things through, and she did a lot of helpful validating of what I was feeling. I'm proud of how I handled it, even if the whole thing left me feeling slightly confused.

Ah, well glad your convo with your friend was helpful even if the rest of it turned a bit odd.

Hope the next two weeks go well!

Is that the health coach who is pregnant? Cause baby hormones  and tiredness make you say and do all sorts of weird things, I've found

She is, though I'm not sure it wasn't me driving the weirdness. *shrug*

Tuesday wasn't that bad. We had a pretty slow day in terms of work, so there wasn't much to do except mull over one sick patient that we have. I did manage to use some of the downtime to work on the manuscript for my research project, so that's a good thing. I made dinner when I got home and watched a few episodes of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on netflix which are appropriately themed for this time of year. Then I did some more writing. I'm working in game to get all the side quests that I've taken finished because there's going to be a ton of new stuff going on for NaNo. I got sleepy pretty early, so I went to bed. :)

That is a lot of writing! But team work can make it happen.

Yay for teams! We're approaching 70% of the way there already!

Have a great NaNo!!! :D Do you have something specific you're writing?

I'm writing my first novel which is based on two images of a character that have been in my head since I was in grade school.

In a society that forbids anybody but nuclear family members from teaching a child to read, Alethia has spent her whole life inside of her home learning directly from her father. One day she finds that her father has disappeared and left a letter that starts her on a quest to unravel his part in a secret organization, find a banned book, and reuinte with her father. Alethia finds herself repeatedly running into one of her father's old partners, and she must enlist the help of some unlikely allies to complete the tasks that her father had set for her.

Oh this sounds very interesting.

Ok friends, I need a name for a female house servant. Go!

Mani, Thoko (two great women who has helped me tremendously over the years - and they would be honoured to have their names in a story), Blessing, "Light up when I saw you" (English meaning of a Zulu name), Elize, Sarah, Margaret... Any name that fits with the character description. Google baby names and meanings.
