RhiaWolfe Respawns

I've been struggling recently. A LOT. I've gone back to eating fast food almost every meal. It's not good. I'm starting this challenge with some encouragement from @Sylvaa on the FB Academy page and trying to get back on track. It's HARD. However the pain in my knees as the weather changes from the osteoarthritis I got from being overweight reminds me that I need to do better. Now that shark week is over, this week has already been better than it had been.

For this challenge, I am planning on tracking everything I eat to get a baseline. I am also going to join NF Coaching to try and help me get to where I need to be. I will not be tracking calories, just the food I eat for now. I don't want to overwhelm myself with calories. I tend to get obsessive when I track calories and I either eat too little or get super depressed and overeat. Baby steps.

So, for now I"m going to keep this challenge easy. Track all food and post here daily. If I do it, I win!

I did both Monday and Today, so I'm going to post my Monday as this starting my 0 Week.

Food tracking is hard, so this is a great place to start! Also, I am here and following and cheering!

It's hard, but I feel that's what I need to do to get started. Also, I know that with NF coaching, that's one of the first things they have you do. Start a baseline. I need to see what my trend is and if I get better by just writing things down, all the better.

I honestly think that a lot of people sabotage themselves by doing this. Myself included. I like your method of tracking your food and the thoughts and reasons behind it.

Yeah, tracking my calories just makes me anxious. Right now the calories aren't important to me. What is important to me is I choose a banana for a snack instead of getting a bag of chips from the vending machine or eating homemade chili instead of going out to eat. It's about changing habits, not tracking calories at this point. I have to start somewhere.

Thanks for the kudos on my method. I'm trying to see if there's a pattern in how I feel and how I eat. Am I eating because I feel a certain way or am I feeling a certain way because of what I'm eating? It's an experiment.

I also tend to get into a rut and start thinking a lot of negative things about myself, so I try to put a positive spin on everything instead of focusing so much on the negative energy.

You got this! I'm also gonna try food tracking this time around so I'll try to keep an eye on your system, it looks a lot more legit than mine (which is basically just write my eats down in my pocket notebook and post it)

Thanks Legionary! I actually update my excel spreadsheet at work. lol. It's easier for me to do it this way. I type a lot faster than I write and my handwriting sucks. I just have to make sure to keep it updated.

One of the biggest things I am learning through this journey, is that it's okay to change the process as your own personal seasons change.    Doing things a certain way may be JUST perfect for you now, and in 6 months, it is not the right fit so you go to a different process.     My current season?   Tracking calories has been no stress.   8 months ago it was tantrum-ville.    The big difference?   I am not beating myself up one way or another for it.      Rolling with the mojo seasons, yup!

Super excited for you on the steps you're taking.   And proud of you for how far you've come.

I also kept a nutrition diary some time ago including emotions (i had to do it for the training to be a nutritionist, before that I only tracked calories and micros/macros for years) and wow... there were some eye openers in there!

Now I am trying to eat "intuitivley" (even if my mind sometimes goes crazy about this) and hope this will work.

Thanks! I'm not going to quit. I'm going to find a way to make this work. I'm at my heaviest I've ever been and I'm not ok with that. I'm going to find something that works. Even if it's just a small improvement, I'm going to make some sort of improvement, damnit!

Intuitive eating can be hard. I tried that a while back and found that I wasn't really in the right mindset to make it work. I wasn't listening to my body, I was just giving in to cravings. I'm trying another approach now that hopefully won't be too hard and won't stress me out too badly. Welcome!

Keeping accountable. I'm proud of myself for at least not eating out, even if what I had for dinner wasn't the healthiest.

This was always my biggest concern with intuitive eating, and the reason I haven't tried it. I'm pretty confident my body/brain think it needs french fries like... All the time. Ain't to be trusted.

I think your approach is great! And I also think that starting with what you eat rather than how much makes total sense. Once you're getting better quality fuel into you, the rest will become easier.

You've got this! Every time we go through this cycle, we learn something new, right? Eventually we'll learn enough to get the results we want.

The book addresses this early on. It says just eat french fries at every meal till you stop obsessing about them. Trust me, it works.

Yes, there are some really good things for intuitive eating and I like the concept, but I have trouble putting it in practice. not sure it's for me.

I have trouble being an all or nothing person rather than just taking small steps in the right direction. Going to try to focus on this more.

The problem is that I eat french fries for every meal until I stop obsessing, but then I'm craving something else... then something else... then something else... it doesn't stop at french fries. I"m not saying it doesn't work, but I don't think it's necessarily what I need right now. Definitely a good program though if it works for you. I like the idea of stopping eating when you're not hungry anymore, listening to what your body wants, and trying to take power away from food.

I get what you are both saying. I don't necessarily eat intuitively, because I know that just because I crave something doesn't mean I should eat it (note: for me, a lot of foods ARE off limits - not for dieting to lose weight, but dieting for other health needs). But I do try to honor cravings. Like, if I want fries, I try to see if there is a healthy version that would suffice. Or eat a salad before the fries (if I can stop eating them!). Or something else to that extent.

Have you thought about tracking your cravings versus your meals (or time of month?) along with your eating?

I might try this, but I want to be careful not to track too much at once or I'll feel overwhelmed.

Definitely understood! You could also track cravings in a period tracker - but I think this would only work if your cravings are consistent throughout a day (and if you use a period tracker).

Also, if I make any suggestions, please don't feel like I'm trying to tell you what to do. YMMV is always implied with any suggestions I make! :)

Oh yes. I appreciate all the suggestions! I don't feel like you're telling me what I should do. :) Most of my musings are just that, musings out loud. Just thinking to myself as I type it out. For example, my first thought was "yeah! I should do that!" but then I took a moment and reminded myself that I tend to get overwhelmed when I track too much all at once. So it was more for me than anything.

Steve's most recent article really spoke to me. Who do I want to be? What do I want my identity to be? This is something I think I'll have to consider rather than focusing on the end result and process. Let's see if that works for me. I'll have to think on it for a while.
