RhiaWolfe Posted October 16, 2018 Report Share Posted October 16, 2018 I've been struggling recently. A LOT. I've gone back to eating fast food almost every meal. It's not good. I'm starting this challenge with some encouragement from @Sylvaa on the FB Academy page and trying to get back on track. It's HARD. However the pain in my knees as the weather changes from the osteoarthritis I got from being overweight reminds me that I need to do better. Now that shark week is over, this week has already been better than it had been. For this challenge, I am planning on tracking everything I eat to get a baseline. I am also going to join NF Coaching to try and help me get to where I need to be. I will not be tracking calories, just the food I eat for now. I don't want to overwhelm myself with calories. I tend to get obsessive when I track calories and I either eat too little or get super depressed and overeat. Baby steps. So, for now I"m going to keep this challenge easy. Track all food and post here daily. If I do it, I win! What is important to me is I choose a banana for a snack instead of getting a bag of chips from the vending machine or eating homemade chili instead of going out to eat. It's about changing habits, not tracking calories at this point. I have to start somewhere. Thanks for the kudos on my method. I'm trying to see if there's a pattern in how I feel and how I eat. Am I eating because I feel a certain way or am I feeling a certain way because of what I'm eating? It's an experiment. I also tend to get into a rut and start thinking a lot of negative things about myself, so I try to put a positive spin on everything instead of focusing so much on the negative energy. 16 minutes ago, Legionary said: You got this! I actually update my excel spreadsheet at work. lol. It's easier for me to do it this way. I type a lot faster than I write and my handwriting sucks. One of the biggest things I am learning through this journey, is that it's okay to change the process as your own personal seasons change. Doing things a certain way may be JUST perfect for you now, and in 6 months, it is not the right fit so you go to a different process. My current season? Tracking calories has been no stress. 8 months ago it was tantrum-ville. The big difference? I am not beating myself up one way or another for it. Rolling with the mojo seasons, yup! Now I am trying to eat "intuitivley" (even if my mind sometimes goes crazy about this) and hope this will work. This was always my biggest concern with intuitive eating, and the reason I haven't tried it. I'm pretty confident my body/brain think it needs french fries like... All the time. Ain't to be trusted. I think your approach is great! And I also think that starting with what you eat rather than how much makes total sense. Once you're getting better quality fuel into you, the rest will become easier. You've got this! Every time we go through this cycle, we learn something new, right? Yes, there are some really good things for intuitive eating and I like the concept, but I have trouble putting it in practice. not sure it's for me. I have trouble being an all or nothing person rather than just taking small steps in the right direction. I don't necessarily eat intuitively, because I know that just because I crave something doesn't mean I should eat it (note: for me, a lot of foods ARE off limits - not for dieting to lose weight, but dieting for other health needs). But I do try to honor cravings. Like, if I want fries, I try to see if there is a healthy version that would suffice. Or eat a salad before the fries (if I can stop eating them!). Or something else to that extent. I don't feel like you're telling me what I should do. Most of my musings are just that, musings out loud. Just thinking to myself as I type it out. For example, my first thought was "yeah! I should do that!" but then I took a moment and reminded myself that I tend to get overwhelmed when I track too much all at once.
