DJ Trippy T, Queen of the Jungle 2: Even Queenier

Meet the New Queen, Same as the Old Queen. Same Challenge, at least, because I'm still working towards the same events.

 

 

Crossfit Top 50: I want to be in the top 50 in my age group at the Crossfit Open next year. I'm working hard on my work capacity and gymnastics, as that's where I fall behind. ALL THE CARDIO! (And all the pull-ups)

 

The Great Migration: Two challenges back I was supposed to do a 10-mile ruck, which I have yet to do, and the tang of failure is beginning to chap my... lips. Ten miles it is!

 

Paleo4Lyfe: 

 

- no screens an hour before bed

- natural light morning and evening

- firelight/candles in the evening. 

- eat like a predator

 

The Home Made Adventure Race:

 

I had to go out of town unexpectedly last challenge, so this got put off. Doing it this time.

 

4 miles kayak (up and back on the lake)

10 miles bike (two very hilly loops around the park)

4 miles trail run

 

 

 

I CANNOT BELIEVE the entire opening credits of this movie involve Sheena riding a horse painted to look like a zebra. I hope everyone involved with this film was arrested.

Damn, where did this week go. I have no idea.

 

Workouts:

 

Sunday: First day back in the gym after two weeks. Rough. Did Crossfit "DT" but had to come way down on weight and still couldn't complete the workout. Ugh.

 

Monday: Gym again. Did Crossfit "Sham" (alternating deadlifts and running), or at least started to. Got thru two rounds and tanked running-wise, so I switched to straight deadlifts to save the workout. My trainer Roc gave me some deadlift tips, and then I hung out with Mantis afterward, so day not a total loss.

 

 

 

Tuesday  got busy so I was off that day.

 

Wednesday:  Yoga at LAST! Finally. I've only been procrastinating starting yoga again for like three months. Plus I meditated! My chakras were so, so aligned.

 

Wednesday PM I went to gym and did a straight strength workout - pullups and legs - which went well and didn't leave me broken like the last two gym days. Plus on Wednesday I happened to be at the gym when Mr. Curtis was doing his personal workout which is always amazing.

 

 

He's like 60 and he's out there killing it, which is always inspiring. His arms are like the size of my thighs. He's like the poster child for healthy aging.

 

Thursday: I went and did stadium steps at the park near my house. I got my boyfriend to go with, which was fun. Between that and the leg workout the day before I was in serious DOMs by the end of the day but I felt satisfied.

 

Today is Friday and I will be going to the Gym shortly, as my legs are functioning again. I spent some time tweaking my training plan for the next 8 weeks, putting in some straight strength work and reducing the number of metcons (hard core cardio) because I want to go full-out without getting injured or burning out. Strength work doesn't fry me out like back-to-back hard cardio and I need to get stronger anyway, to be able to handle the competition weights for the Open.

 

 

Other stuff: 

 

Migration/HomeMade Adventure: didn't do anything for these

 

Paleo4Lyfe: My food is good, but I'm having a terrible time getting off the screens an hour before bed. I need to lock the phone in a box or something in the evening. There's been a lot of football on tv so I'm watching too much tv sports second-hand (boyfriend watches every game available) as I try to wind down for the evening. Will work on this going forward.

 

I thought I was going to get my campfire last night, but I couldn't get the fire started. Tonight I'll try to do some candlelight as it's raining and all the wood is now wet.

My favorite bit of "Sheena" trivia of the week is that they spent 6 months casting the role and supposedly saw over 200 actresses, and they STILL wound up with Tanya Roberts!

Friday update: gym, good workout. Squat, bench, prowler

 

went home determined to get off the phone an hour before sleep and succeeded, but at considerable cost: I put all the electronics away and dove into a book about underwater archeology, but unfortunately it opened with two chapters on grisly cave diving fiascos, which were so utterly unnerving I spent the next four hours lying in the dark staring at the ceiling, convinced that I would somehow drown in my sleep.

rest of week one:

 

Saturday I did not do any workouts, and thank goodness it was my off day for paleo food because BF and I went to a football party and So. Much. Food.

 

I did get off the screens before bed, and I certainly slept better, given that I wasn't terrified by the book I was reading (I haven't touched the underwater archeology book again yet; I don't know if I can handle what the next chapter might be. Killer goldfish? I'm telling you, I can't stand it.)

 

Sunday I got more or less back on the good food train, and I did 20 minutes on the bike trainer. My knee was killing me. I may have been over-enthusiastic with my squats on Friday.

 

i was on the phone until bedtime, but that was because I volunteered to pick some friends up at the airport at 11pm and then came home and went straight to bed. I HAVE moved the phone out of the bedroom at night again, which helps. 

 

I need to get some more outdoor time, that will probably be tomorrow. I'll get the bike out on the road again. The weather is perfect. I'm supposed to hit the gym today but my knee is really squinching so I may give it a pass tonight and let that ease up. 

 

 

I've decided the 60's era Sheena comics have the best outfits. Tasteful, yet easy to move in. I'm not sure why she's so enraged that this leopard is trying to eat this antelope, though. Does she not want the leopard to have dinner? Surely Sheena understands the Circle of Life?

Someone as cool as comic book Sheena would clearly love cats, so I prefer to think this cover depicts when she leaves the dinner table to get more mango juice and returns to find her feline companions fighting over the pork chop that she left on her plate, ruining a peaceful evening meal. 

 

Not that I have any experience with that.

Sheena was an early adopter of the fashion we now call the “skort” or “tennis skirt” which has all the coverage of a boyshort but the feminine grace of a skirt. It’s the perfect daywear for romping thru the jungle, subduing poachers and wrestling crocodiles. 

 

Taken to the extreme, however, they become the late 80’s fashion trend of “gauchos”, which were and are an abomination.
