[NeverThatBored] Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot NTB

Recommended Posts

Apparently I can't challenge anymore! My last few challenges have pretty much petered out before they even got started. But I #cant'stopwon'tstop so I'm going to do an itsy bitsy teeny weeny challenge this time. I'm also about to leave to spend 2 months visiting family in CA, so I'd have to change up my routine either way. I also always get super stressed out before transitions like this, so something simple but grounding sounds good right now.

I'll have three challenge goals that can earn me points, with options that can earn me bonus points. If I hit 65 points, I can buy either a weighted blanket or the foot massager I've been coveting for a long time. I earned myself a personal day off a few challenges back and then forgot about it and never took the day off, so I don't feel too guilty about possibly earning such a good reward for a fairly simple challenge.

Goals:

  1. Complete important to do list items - 1 point per item
  2. Walk - 1 point per walk, 2 points for longer walks, 3 points for hikes
  3. Stretch - 1 point per short stretching session, 2 points for long stretching sessions or yoga

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH so those of you who were following my last challenge know that I'm dealing with a lot of dentist nonsense at the moment. (Quick recap: I got an ITSY BITSY cavity filled on the 8th and about a week later it started hurting when I chew, but my dentist is on vacation for 2 weeks, so I got a referral to another dentist much farther away, who said he fixed the problem but failed to fix the problem so I have to go back AGAIN).

Today as I was eating dinner, I felt a rough spot on one of my bottom front teeth that isn't normally there?? MY FRIGGIN' TOOTH CHIPPED. WHY???? I have had no serious dental issues or warnings of impending dental issues in my life, and suddenly after this filling EVERYTHING IS GOING WRONG. I feel like it can't be a coincidence that I started having issues with the filling and this tooth chipped so close together?? But they're completely different teeth so I don't know WHY they'd be related?? Maybe because I've had to chew on one side of my mouth for a week now and that strained it somehow??

I DON'T KNOW. But this is SO STRESSFUL and it's freaking me out because I'm worried that something's wrong that's causing all this to happen, or else the dentist did something really wrong when she filled the cavity, and I'm EXTRA STRESSED because I'm about to leave for CA for two months ~ON SUNDAY~ and I have no faith that these are easy fixable issues after the last dentist failure to fix it, and I'm running out of time! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Deep breaths *gives a towel* don't panic.

Did you call your dentist? They should give you an appointment on short notice if you're having tooth ache. If you don't feel pain just exagerate. You need an appointment ASAP. And sometimes dentists don't want to make time.

Are you maybe grinding your teeth because of stress? I had that once and my front teeth chipped. They tried to fix it and it broke again. Than the next dentist found Karies and the filling was fine the next time after taking care of the Karies. I wore a plastic mouth piece at night for some time against the grinding and teeth gritting. After getting rid of the stress, I didn't need it anymore. Maybe let her check that out. Teeth gritting can also be the cause of headaches and other stuff.

unfortunately I was a bit late and my front teeth got its nerve pulled. Now I have to get an appointment, because of an shadow on the X-Ray. It seems after ten years it's acting up again. There could be something in the bone. Beside that I didn't have big troubles with my teeth. I'm sure it will be better, when you figure out, what's going on. And if everything goes wrong, can't you just see a dentist in CA? You weren't happy with the substitue dentist anyway.

Yikes - that sounds painful!

I have an appointment with the substitute dentist already this morning, so I'm good there. It just seems like this is all happening because of the filling so I'm worried they did something wrong and I'm just permanently stuck with these problems now?? I'm also concerned about how insurance will react to my finding a dentist in CA. I'll see how today goes and then decide from there. I'm wondering if I'll end up having to postpone going out to CA for a couple of weeks if they can't resolve this and I need more time to keep dealing with it...but theoretically this should be pretty straightforward so I don't know why the dentist failed to fix it last time anyway??

I'm not aware of doing any grinding...but I guess if it's at night you wouldn't know anyway?

Dentist update: they put a cap on the chipped tooth. After some experiments with bites and things, they decided that the filling pain is just leftover soreness/inflammation from the ridge they fixed Monday, and that it will fade in a few days.

I'm skeptical because I no longer trust dentists after this, but it would be very good if that's true.

I'm respawning, too.

Do you know, what changed? Are your days more busy or have your priorities changed? Any idea why it's harder to follow your challenge plans?

I have some ideas, but I'm not 100% certain.

One thing is just that my evenings got really full...doing Crossfit 3x/week after work means like 2 hours of my time get taken up 3 days a week that I would have been spending on other goals/relaxing walks/ hanging out outside. And if I go to aikido that can be 1-2 more nights where I'm out for 3 hours and not getting home until late. So I think a large part of it is just that that schedule has gotten tiring. I started switching to mornings, but since I'm about to leave for CA soon there's not really any point right now. When I get back I think I'll try doing mornings again to free up that time and see if it works better.

Also after my Japanese class ended in early September, I felt like everything suddenly got much harder to keep up with, which is weird because if anything it should have meant more free time? But I think it was somehow motivating to me to have homework to do and the sense of learning/growth or something. IDK. Or maybe it was just energizing because it's fun.

I also think in general I could use a little more fun in my life and I might just be feeling drained because of that too.

A full timetable could definitely be a reason. But wasn't exercise also often a goal for you. So you seem to be doing fine here. Maybe your perception on challenges changed. Are you still reaching your goals? Is there still an aspekt in your life you want to change? Like your eating habits, sleeping habits, stressmanagement, timemanagement, some new exercise you want to try? I'm just tossing around ideas.

Productive morning sounds like something, that could help you. But only if you don't have to get up earlier. You still should get in enough sleep.

I also think in general I could use a little more fun in my life and I might just be feeling drained because of that too.

You could be onto something here. For me challenges with something new and exiting always went better. We have been here so long and got used to things.

Any ideas what you would like to do? Maybe something creative would be fun.

Hopefully your tooth feels better soon. I like your nice simple challenge. Sometimes we just need the simplicity to allow ourselves breathing room.

Thanks <3

Yeah, productive mornings would be really helpful. I used to be awesome at productive mornings when I had to get up and go to work, but ever since I started working from home it's nearly impossible to make myself be as productive in the morning (because I don't have the external motivation/deadline of having to go somewhere).

Yeah, I'm rocking the exercise goal! I'm really consistently going to crossfit 3x/week. It's all the little stuff around workouts that's lagging - mobility/stretching (I've gotten really stiff), walking regularly (my mileage is much lower than I prefer it to be), etc. I'm sloooowly making progress on eating habits so I'm at least seeing growth there. Which is why I made this challenge focus on eating/walking...that stuff always slips first when I get busy or stressed.

Hmmm, it's less about challenges and more about having friends around to do things with. That shouldn't be as much of an issue in CA, which is part of why I'm spending 2 months there in the first place. :)

Week 1 Monday-Wednesday Update

Challenge goals:

  • Most of the items for my to do list goal will start next week once I'm in CA, so not much to report here. I get 2 points for all the dentist appointments and 1 point for making sure my crossfit payment wouldn't auto-renew next month. :P
  • Honestly, I haven't been tracking the other challenge goals very well yet because I really see them as starting in CA too. But I've walked 3/3 days so far - so 3 points.
  • Stretching...I want to say I've stretched 2/3 days so far, so 2 points.

Total points: 8 points

With all the dentist shenanigans, I've only been to Crossfit once so far this week. I'm planning to double up tonight and go from work to crossfit to aikido! I've never done this particular combo before, so it should be interesting. And quite probably tiring. :P I'll get in the third Crossfit workout on Friday and the second aikido class on Saturday morning.

This Saturday is my boyfriend's birthday, so as part of the celebrations we went to see Star Wars: The Emperor Strikes Back with a live orchestra last night (they project the movie and a live orchestra plays the soundtrack). This might destroy my nerd cred, but that movie is SO BORING. This was my first time staying awake through the whole thing, but I can't say that improved the experience. >.<

In this situation I would have closed my eyes and enjoyed the music. I love events with life Film music. ^^

I'm late but I'm here! I checked for a thread from you when the boards first went up and then forgot to come back and look again. >__>

Sorry to hear about all the dental shenanigans but at least it all turned out to be not so bad?

Except for the part where the filling still hurts a week later and I'm in California... >.<

I was thinking of you while dealing with all this dentist nonsense after all the stuff you dealt with before. Yeesh, dentists.

NTB waits too long to update again, part 8.

I am in California! I flew in on Sunday and took Monday off of work for errands - I got some groceries and visited the first of two crossfit places in the area. It's much bigger than my usual place, so that was interesting. It's hard to judge based on one workout, but the workout we did involved much less inability to breathe than I'm used to. :D I'll check out the other place and then go from there. This was also significant because I hate driving other people's cars in general and my mom's rather wide car in particular, and I wanted to jump right in and make an effort to drive it before I psyched myself out and felt trapped the whole visit because I was afraid of using the car.

Regarding goals....

I walked Tuesday and hiked today! My parents' house is near some nice hiking trails. +3 points

Week 2 to do list:

  • Go to first crossfit place +1
  • Go to second crossfit place
  • Go on a hike +1
  • Take stock of groceries available and get what I need+1
  • Get some protein powder for my parents' house+1

I haven't really been stretching at all even though I'm super stiff and need it badly, but I cleared out space so I can do some yoga or stretch videos. I'm toying with the idea of doing a 30 day yoga challenge again since it's been a while and I reeeeally do need the stretching, and also I have a lot of downtime right now.

I have two friends who still live around here, but they're both busy for a few more days so I'm kind of antsy for things to do in the meantime. I need to think of things to do while I'm here beyond crossfit, hiking, and hanging out with friends when they're free. Maybe.

Week 2 Thurs

I visited the second crossfit place! Now I have to do my favorite thing...make a decision about which one to go to! They're really close to each other and I believe the pricing is similar, so it's hard to decide. The first one is bigger and has been around longer, and the second one is newer and a little bro-y. But other than that I don't have much to go on. The workout at the first place was kind of easy, and the workout at the second one was REAL TOUGH. But it's hard to judge based on one workout too. Hmmmmm.

I didn't walk or stretch yesterday. >.< I need to work on consistency there.

According to my parents' scale I'm down another pound! IDK if it's just a difference in scales though. I've been eating healthier so far while I'm here because there's mostly healthy food around, and my sugar cravings are REAL STRONG. I'm trying to keep from buying anything that will make healthy eating harder for my mom, since she's lost about 50 pounds since her health scare earlier this year.

To do list for Week 3:

  • Pick a crossfit place and sign up
  • Go on a hike
  • Schedule an appointment for a haircut
  • Drive one place on my own just for fun

Week 2 Saturday/Sunday

I walked and stretched on Saturday, and did neither on Sunday. +2 I thought I'd go to Crossfit on Sunday morning, but then I realized I misread the schedule and it was only open gym. So that's one of the first weeks in ages with only 2 crossfit classes! Ah well. As long as I get back up to three this week, I'll be good.

I finally got to hang out with a friend on Sunday, which was fun! We saw Venom, which I really enjoyed even though the reviews were so mixed.

Week 3 Monday

I should have gone to Crossfit, but I'm feeling torn about where to go so I somehow talked myself out of it. I'll go tomorrow. I didn't walk, but I finally did a yoga session! Yoga after not doing yoga for a while is ROUGH, man. But now that I've done the one session, I'm hoping I can talk myself into more. +2

I've been thinking about you because the Terrain Race at the raceway in VA (the first Terrain Race we did) is currently doing a free registration.

I keep seeing those emails come through!! I'm tempted, but also I haven't been running at all lately since my shins are being dumb (and I think focusing on weight for a bit might be the best way to improve the shin situation anyway).

Actually, should we just sign up? It's free and not until September, so worst case we don't do it and didn't pay any money. What time would you want to sign up for if we did it?
