I've been really shite at regular posting! Or posting in general... keep seem to running out of time to get to my laptop in the evenings.

I need to start just logging in and posting something on my phone, even if it's just a few lines.

Thanks for checking up on me though!

Ok, so a quick weekend update:
It was a really fun time, I met with family for dinner on Friday night and then some more family on Saturday afternoon for my birthday (last Monday) treats, and the Welshman and I also sorted out the house ahead of his family visiting this week. Lots of fun, also very productive.

I also made it to the gym twice. Saturday morning was a full leg session - I've just hradually reintroduced Deadlifts after injuring myself a few months back, and I was surprised to find it was my grip that gave out before anything else this week. Presumably that'll come back with time though.

Yesterday I did Back & Biceps. Despite the fact I've put a couple of pounds back on in the last few weeks, my assisted pull-ups are needing less assistance so that's clear progress.

I also ended the weeked lighter than I was at the start of it, so that's definitely progress too!

We're spending a lot of time staying over at the Welshman's Mum' house this week so workouts will be tricky to fit in, but I should be able to manage two gym sessions and two runs so I'l just have to make damn sure they actually happen.

Right, on with the week!

Monday was a really nice evening - we headed straight over after work to see the Welshman's family, and I even took a sensible amount of the barbecue instead of ALL of it. Unfortunately my intention to not drink got scuppered when I was handed a glass of wine that kept getting magically refilled...

Yesterday I had an appalling day at work. Everything I picked up to code was complicated, and I was left stressed and exhausted at the end of it. Ended up skipping the gym and going to the pub to sit in the sun instead. Not the best choice, but it really did help.

Tonight the family are staying over at ours so no exercise is being done, but tomorrow has been freed up so I'm going to stick in a heavy leg day to make up for it.

Ah, different kind of coding. I use ICD-10 and OPCS-4.8...

Yesterday it was hot as BALLS and I probably lost half my bodyweight in sweat, so that would be good for the scales. Except we took the Welshman's family to Pizza Express and I somehow ended up with all three courses. Basically I'm really good at having a plan until somebody offers me something I was trying to avoid... [emoji28]

Night off from family time tonight, so it'll be Leg Day, sensible dinner and no booze. Plus an early night - my Fitbit says I only got 5hrs31 of actual sleep last night. I'll be doing a raindance before bed in the hopes that it stops being so damn muggy out there...

After a week of it being hot as balls (before you Muricans comment, please remember that only 3% of UK households have AC...) the weekend cooled off and got a bit rainy.  We spent all of it with the Welshman's family, and much eating & drinking occurred.  Although I did pop out for a 3.5 mile run on Saturday morning.

Today it's back to reality.  For the first week in at least a month we have nowhere to be all week, no plans for the weekend, and nothing to pack/prepare for.  It's going to be nice to just get a consistent week of eating & proper training under my belt and try to get some consistency back.

On that note, today I took leftover enchilada filling from the freezer to work for my lunch (stuck it in a roll with grated cheese after nuking it in the microwave), and after work I went for a run.  Only 5k and it was slooooooow, but I got it done.  Just done my proper meal prep for the rest of the week and planned out tomorrow's gym trip, so it's a solid start to the week so far.  Just need to keep it up!

You've lived in the Sandpit, I think you have unrestricted permissions to complain about heat.

Tuesday was a Chest, Shoulders & Triceps gym session. I'm continuing to make progress with them, it's just my diet that's holding me back right now. I ate so many damn biscuits at work without thinking...

Today was a day off training as my driving instructor gave me a mock driving test (my real one's booked for September). I've been having lessons in secret as I want to surprise my family, but converting myself over to UK driving after learning in the sandpit then taking a 2yr break had been interesting. Went well though, made some silly little mistakes but still would have passed. Got 8hrs of lessons left to correct them in!

All set for the gym after work tomorrow. Getting my Leg days back in my often now in a hope to injury-proof my legs a bit more!

Oh hey I didn't know you were a kind-of-not-driver as well! Solidarity. Living in the city for so long I never drove/needed to drive and let my license expire and never got it back and I'm certain I have no idea what I'm doing on the road. I've been thinking of taking secret lessons too.  My family would be shocked.

I heard Wales is the easiest place to pass, you should get the Welshman to take you there!

Learnt in the wrong country, then got too comfortable sitting on trains and in the passenger seat. The pressure of nobody nearby knowing you're booking your test is nice though!

It's been a nice fun few days since my last update.  On Thursday I made it to the gym for a good Chest, Shoulders & Triceps session, then on Friday we made it to the pub for a good session too.

Saturday morning I overslept (but apparently I really needed it) and then went for a short run exploring a new route - it turned out to be only just over 2 miles long, but it was mainly offroad (which is good for my remaing uninjured while I'm this heavy) and I identified a good point where I could add another mile-ish loop on to it as well, so I'll be trying that out tomorrow.

Sunday morning was a gym trip for Back & Biceps which invovled me getting over my fear of deadlifts (I injured myself a couple of months ago and have been very hesitant ever sicne) but I remembered how much I really enjoy deadlifts so that's now definitely passed.

Then we went to do our weekly shop and we tried Aldi for the first time - seriously, we probably saved at least £30 while buying more food than we normally would!  Definite game changer when saving for a wedding.

My parents came round for a bit this afternoon, then we headed to the pub to play Fluxx for a bit:

After that I took care of my meal prep and made dinner for tonight: red thai pork chops and spinach shaksuka:

Now I'm winding down ahead of the new working week.  It has been a very good weekend.

Two posts in two days!  Let's see how long this lasts for.

It has been a good day.  Work wasn't as Monday as it could have been, and I ate well all day:

Breakfast: Beefy scotch egg

Snack: Baked chicken breast

Lunch: Two cheese-topped rolls with ham, small bag of fake hula hoops

Snack: Small bag of fake mini cheddars

I'm trying out having controlled bits of junk food, and also keeping my main carbs during the daytime when I know I'll be training later on.  We'll see how it affects the scales.

After work I dragged myself round a run on the same 5k-ish route I did last week - it was quite nice running along the river for a change, and the heat didn't seem as bad this time round.  Still a lot more effort than it used to be though.

cb3d50565b7af601e407b0f09f1e0cf2.jpg

This evening I've pottered around the house getting jobs done, and then cooked tonight's dinner - it was a much less impressive affair this time round, but it continues our Aldi-based experimentation.  We had a bag of frozen chicken & vegetable fajita mix, and a couple of microwaveable rice bags.  Turned out nice enough for 15mins of mainly standing in the kitchen no doing much, came to just shy of 500 calories each and only cost £2.74 in total as well.  Definitely going on the list again for future days when we're busy and don't have to time to cook from scratch:

Kit's all packed for tomorrow's gym trip - it's either going to be a Leg day or a Chest, Shoulders & Triceps day depending on what I fancy when I get there!

I'm glad you're back on deads - they are so fun!!

Pork chops are life.

And deadlifts are by far my favourite lift, and one I've never had any trouble with before, which is why I was so shocked to injury myself.  It felt like some kind of abdominal muscle popped a bit - perhaps an intercostal?  Either way, I left it for aaaaaaages before I started again and now everything seems fine.  Gonna build up much slower this time, that did happen on my 3rd PB lift in 3 weeks...

Tuesday has been a very meh day.

Slept a bit rubbish for no apparent reason, work was kind of annoying for no one specific main reason (just lots of little moments of annoyance), and then when I got to the gym for my Chest, Shoulders & Triceps session it was if someone had turned up the gravity and nothing wanted to move.

Stuck to my eating plan all day though (basically the same as yesterday), and this evening it's not my turn to cook so I've been taking it easy and just pottering around with a couple of jobs while working my way through another pot of decaff coffee.  The Welshman is cooking tonight's new experimental dinner - baked basa fillets with stuffed mushrooms and cheesy broccoli.  If I remember to take a photo I'll post it later.

Right, time to go get my washing out of the machine then settle down on the sofa to finish off my book - currently on a reread of the Shannara series (because there's at least 10 new ones since I last checked), and I'm heading right for the big finale of The Elfstones of Shannara right now.  Plan is to then move straight on to The Wishsong of Shannara before taking a break to finish off How to Be a Productivity Ninja, which I keep somehow failing to find time to read...

Nice on the PBs!!! Also ouch I didn't realize it was your core that got injured from the DLs, that's rough.  Glad that's all sorted now though. Good idea taking it slow this time.

Please remember to take a photo of that meal because it sounds killer.

I've been wanting to check out the Shannara series for ages but it's just so many freakin' books!

Wednesday has improved dramatically as it went on.

Woke up stil tired (6hrs12 sleep apparently; didn't feel like I woke up loads but the Fitbit doesn't lie), had some rubbish notes to code at work, and my rolls for lunch tomorrow had gone mouldy in the packet and needed to be thrown out.  So far, so peachy.

Then I went for my driving lesson.  Apparently I did a really good hill start without even consciously registering that I was doing one (for someone who was very nervous about using a manual transmission again, this is a huge step forward), I fixed my reverse parallel parking mistakes from last week's mock tests, and everything else went very well too.  I feel like I could take my test now and pass easily, but I still have another month and six more hours of lessons including another mock test.  Plus extra practice in the Welshman's car in the mean time.

Now I'm sat on the sofa with a bottle of wine (always get a treat after a driving lesson) while the Welshman continues out week of treat meals by making Gobble-Oink pie and I fully intend to get a nice early night as well!  Perfect!

Here's a question. How is swede pronounced (I saw it as an ingredient in the recipe you linked). Is it pronounced with a long a or a long e? In the US we call it a rutabaga.

Interesting. I thought you all called them neeps over there.  I've clearly spent too much time in Scotland XD

Like Sweden but stop before the n.

Also, I never had a clue what rutabaga was until now.

This is definitely because you're married to a Scot. I have also never piped a haggis into a room.
