Thursday has been a better day than Wednesday.

Left work without the urge to kill anyone (other than general backward levels of misanthropy), and headed to the gym.  I had been looking for an excuse all day to sack it off, but I made myself get in there with the promise that I would do the slightly shorter version of my workout.  It was supposed to be Leg day, but somehow I manage to make my dodgy knee flare up in my sleep (welcome to your late thirties...) so I swapped it for a Back & Biceps session.  Knee is sorting itself out now, but it'll be a couple of days until it's back to normal again.  Arse.

After the gym the Welshman & I decided to head to the pub before dinner - beautifully sunny evening for a drink with the Waterfront views, although I had a Kraken & coke instead of beer to minimise the calories.

Then it was my turn to cook again - I made a variation of the Saksuka (using up leftover veg from the fridge) from Sunday alongside some thin steaks.  Still can't believe we're eating so much better than usual this week despite having spent so much less money!  Definitely Aldi converts in this household.

Now just chilling on the sofa before bed - finally paid the caterer deposit for the Wedding, so it's on to the next job at the weekend, whatever that may be!

That shakshuka looks delightful. It is also on the menu in our house this week.

What's the recipe like for yours? Mine came out of an issue of Men's Fitness so I'm guessing it's a very simple version...

This week has been... not so good.  Last week I woke up one day to find random pain in my left knee.  I thought it was just an old niggle that crops up sometimes and then goes away a few days later when it suddenly clicks into place, but it's now been a week and it's still giving me trouble when I least expect it.  It just feels really unstable and then I get sharp pain when I flex it too far, or when there's a twisting motion.  I figure if it's not better by Monday I'll book an appointment with my GP to get referred on for physio/scans/etc.

The weekend was good though - took my nephew to the cinema on Saturday and then for lunch, which I later realised is the first time it's been just us (and the Welshman) without a parent or grandparent involved too.  He seemed to have a good time (possibly because he didn't have to eat all his vegetables and got a smoothie too) so I think it'll happen again.

Sunday I had a really good Back & Biceps day at the gym, but unfortunately deadlifts were off the menu.

This week has been an absolute sh*tshow to be honest; no training due to surprise family visits with the future in-laws, I stepped on glass and so can't cardio for a few days while my toe knits up a but, Leg day was off the cards anyway, and now I've got a stinking cold (in August!) and a load of work stress thrown in to the mix too.

Oh, and we just found out my gym is closing down at the end of the month.  Admittedly we were planning on moving house in October so this saves the hassle of cancelling contracts etc, but I like this place and don't want to see it close down entirely.  But the franchise owner recently got widowed and can't keep up with everything for the business requires so it's a sad fact that he needs to let go of the place.  I feel really sorry for the staff too, there aren't many of them but they're genuinely good and it's a shame for them.

We're going away camping this weekend so I'm basically just going to get through the last two days of work and then respawn hard on Monday.  Make the most of my last two weeks left at the gym, not let my mood affect my eating choices, and try to deal as well as possible with all the rest of the uncertainty currently going around.  For someone who has moved halfway round the world before, I cope with change surprisingly badly...

Bummer about your knee, I remember it giving you jip occasionally. Definitely think it's a good idea to get a scan, fingers crossed it's not too serious.

How old is your nephew? Sounds like a good day out for him, I would like to be closer to mine, 26,000 miles is not very close!

Cut your foot and gym closing too, sometimes it never rains but it pours! Hopefully you're getting all the shit stuff over in one go....

How are the wedding plans going, do you have much left to organise?

I use this for the spices, but I vary the veggies depending on what I'm craving/what's on sale : squash, potatoes, peppers, greens, etc

Wow sorry about the knee, and the toe, and the cold! Oof.  Bad things come in threes though so hopefully that's it for now right?? It's honestly really impressive you got yourself to the gym to do anything resembling a workout with all that going on. You're awesome!

He's 10 now, which is a good age. Think he enjoys having two uncles to play computer games with too.

Wedding is exactly one year today! We have a venue, caterer, registrar, and a quote for the wedding disco. Plenty more to sort out!

I like that - I already started varying the veg depending on what was left over in the fridge...

It has been a fun few days (in the non-sarcastic sense).

We went away camping up in Norfolk for the weekend with the Welshman's Mum & Stepdad. While it was absolutely pissing down on the Friday when we arrived, forcing us to put up a new tent for the first time in wind and rain, we managed it admirably and the rest of the weekend has been sunny enough to result in mild sunburn.

We walked a long the beach, chilled in the campsite, and found a band in the pub who were good enough to even do multiple decent Bowie covers. Good times.

Now we're back home and I'm working on a big Respawn for tomorrow - my knee still seems kinda dodgy, but I've got my food planned for the week and I'm heading to the gym after work for whatever kind of low-impact cardio I fancy at the time.

I've also pre-emptively logged everything I plan on eating in MFP to keep me honest - got to gradually shift myself back on to the right path, and that requires measuring things again for a while!

Monday has got the week off to a adecent start.

Slept the sleep of the dead last night - 6hrs54 on a school night is very good for me; don't think I even woke up long enough to roll over!  With a few coffess too, the day at work passed by without incident.  Which is generally the best thing that can happen on a Monday.

After work I headed to the gym for an attempt at cardio - after two weeks of rest my knee is no better but also no worse, so I figured I might as well give it a go.  Plus IG very kindly threw up some holiday photos from two years ago and really hammered home 1) how much weight I've put on since then, and 2) how much weight I haven't lost so far this year.  Definitely a good day for a respawn.

I spent half an hour on the hill programme on the elliptical - only grumble from my knee came on a couple of the heavier reps, so next time I'll try keeping the profile a bit flatter and just push for faster instead.  But at least it's something rather than nothing!

Had a little evening of admin jobs after a weekend away, and also cooked us our latest Aldi dinner concoction - BBQ pork steaks with sweet potato fries and broccoli.  It worked very well, and we'll definitely be having this one again as well!

First day back logging stuff on MFP was a success - only slightly over the calories I would have wanted for the day, and with walking 5miles and doing the gym I'm definitely in a calorie deficit on Day 1.

Tomorrow I'm heading to the gym after work, then coming home to make pork & chorizo burgers with shaksuka.  I'm already feeling hungry at the thought of it all!

Is it really only Tuesday?  Feels much later in the week than that already.

Today went well - work was surprisingly un-stressful again (kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop there) , and on the way home I neckeda coffee on the train and hit the gym.

The gym was surprisingly quite; I'm wondering if people are already jumping ship and starting somewhere new seeing as this place closes within a fortnight.  Personally, I've selected the one I'm joining from the 1st September but will be getting every last penny out of my last month's membership here before it runs out.  Hence tonight's Chest, Shoulders & Triceps session which went pretty well, and the Back & Biceps session I have planned for tomorrow.

If I was sticking around here instead of planning to move to a smaller town in October I'd probably be giving the new CF box a try, but as it is I've found a regular gym nearby that has no contract and is still in walkable distance.  Hopefully that should tide me over for a month or so - popping in for a look round on Monday.

Tonight's dinner tasted as beautiful as I expected and sadly there were no leftovers, so when Endor arrives he will be rather disappointed.  Tomorrow's offering is two different types of fishcake with mediterranean veg, and I'm already looking forward to that now too!

Wednesday came and went.

Started off feeling the effects of a crap night's sleep, then a mediocre day at work.

On the train home I necked another coffee and headed to the gym for my Back & Biceps session - made progress on all those lifta again, which I'm pleased with. Definitely gonna miss this gym, but also now looking forward to a new environment and trying out their various classes as well. The Bootcamp and Boxing classes appeal to me, might kickstart my weight-loss too.

Popped out for a midweek drink - I'm having rum & coke zero rather than a beer to save a few calories. Still at a decent level though, and nicely ready for an early night and a strong finish into the bank holiday weekend!

Oops, I vanished for a couple of weeks again.

Had friends come visit for the bank holiday weekend, and my knee also managed to screw itself up somehow for a couple of weeks.  Seems to be getting better now, but I'm booked in with the physio in a few weeks to see if it's something more serious or not.

Started a major respawn on Sunday - and coincidentally also my first day at the new gym!  I was very pleased at how quiet it was on Sunday morning for my weights session, and tonight I was there at 5pm on the dot for a half hour on the spin bike to test out my knee (I have a big blue knee support and everything).  The weights section also looked decently quiet today as well, so this all bodes well so far.  Next workout is on Wednesday.

Not much else I can think of to report right now, but I'll try to be more regular at this again!
