- SSB BxSQ in single ply suit: 10 dubs with 145kg, then YOLO'd singles up to a new 1RM of 195kg. Damn near killed me. I'm still hungry for the 200kg next week though.

I don't know what this is, but somehow I read this as stuttering son-of-a-bitch barbecue squat. Whatever it is, 195kg of it sounds badass.

- Ugh... *Social Blocky Alert*... I'm being forced to do things tomorrow. We have some family coming to do an early Xmas gift exchange, because they wont be here for real Xmas. So, up early to tidy and vacuum, then people will invade my space for a few hours, THEN we are going for a buffet lunch. Which I have to leave early to get to my 2 hour Russian lesson. Then it's straight to the gym for 2 hours of benching. It's going to be a big day.

- I did some Russian-ing yesterday and today. Still need to do some more tonight to prepare for tomorrow's lesson.

From the way you describe socialising, I gather you are a hardened introvert who will feel more relaxed whilst levering hundreds of pounds of iron over your face in the knowledge that you might at any moment staple yourself to the bench.

Blergh... it was exhausting... I think that's quite enough out-of-house-time for another year.

It's this:

For people like me (ie: hip/lower back dominant squat), this bar pushes you further forwards and really works the entire back (erectors, mid and upper back)...

And it is, in fact, a son of a bitch....

Sooo much yes.... I'm very aware that I might die lifting, but still prefer to do it alone....

Sigh... take 2... I just spent 20 mins writing all this out and managed to close the fucking page by accident.

Training

Bench Day!

Bench-Toy.jpg

Repetition Effort Upper:

I didn't do any thing super heavy or go for any PRs, but I did do a ton of volume:

Bench-Day.jpg

Triceps no longer work.

It was a weird day. I felt relatively strong BUT also tired and lethargic from a carby lunch. My session (normally about 1.5 hours) turned into 2+ hours.

Other stuff

Social Blocky Update:

- Woke up at 5am for no good reason. Tired Blocky is tired.

- Spent a fair bit of time cleaning the house for the impending social invasion.

- Did 2 hours of Xmas number 1.

- Went out for buffet lunch. I tried hard to not eat like an asshole... and failed. Pros: I did eat a lot of quality meats. Cons: I also ate a lot more carbs than I'm used to and also ate gluteny things (I'm going to pay for that in the coming days).

- Also had 2 hours of Russian lessons. Which was hard due to being tired, bloated and lethargic.

No Stargate picture today... I'm tired and I've already had to write this twice....

Sounds exhausting (the workout and the other things).

Hahaha. I'm now imagining you rolling your eyes in annoyance as someone rescues you from an extremely heavy bench press.

My family is coming to visit soon and I love them and they are very welcome, but I turn into a version of myself I don't like much if I don't get enough alone time. So I have to practice some meditation and zen. Also I may just implement mandatory quiet reading time. Like the mandatory nap time at pre-school, but for adults.

I can only do so much adulting... but I have the family used to the fact that I will occasionally sneak away and go to the gym (and hide there for many hours). Like a fitness ninja.

Okay, now I'm imagining you with chameleon like powers to change colour so no one can see you at the gym. A gym bro walks up to take your spot, which you're still using, but he can't see you. So you turn bright orange and shriek at him. He screams and runs away, and you transform back into your usual iron grey colour and continue lifting in peace.

Eh... I learned long ago that I don't like people... I'm lucky enough to have a home gym.

Other stuff

Mrs Blocky and I bought ourselves an early Xmas present:

We haz pool table!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, it was a build it yourself job.... which led to several issues:

- The parts were labelled incorrectly which made reading the instructions incredibly difficult.

- It took 6 hours to build.

- The parts weren't even the right size (I think we must have got some parts from the ext size up table), so I ended up having to get the saw out and improvise.

- Because it gets built upside down - I spent way too much time climbing around on the floor and bending over - my lower back and knees were toast. I was in so much pain by bedtime.

Training

Max Effort Lower

I was pretty concerned going in that my back would be all fucked up from building the pool table. But it wasn't too bad. It wasn't my strongest day, but I got the work done. I did have to spend a lot of time early in the morning stretching and foam rolling.

- SSB Squat: historically my weakest lift and today was no exception. I matched my 1RM of 140kg but couldn't bring myself to push it up any higher. I did set a new 3RM (115kg) and 5RM (105kg) on my downsets (this was really low hanging fruit).

- Block Pulls: sets of 3 up to 155kg.

- Box Squats: sets of 5 up to 115kg.

- SLDLs: 5s up to 110kg beltless and 80 airsquats for accessories.

Other stuff

- I achieved very little today.

Putting the device together demonstrates INT and DEX. Well done.

Ima need glasses to read that. Or I could just lip read and fill in the blanks. From their expressions, I think they're saying "oooh", "huh?" and "hrmmm". No, don't tell me lip reading doesn't work on pictures, I have faith in my skills.

Here's the thing...

I found the whole process incredibly frustrating and annoying... Mrs Blocky (being super helpful and supportive), thought it was hilarious...

Training

Max Effort Upper

Had a bit of a whoopsie today. I seem to have strained/tore something in the front/under/inside of my shoulder. It's weird... I can push and pull BUT I cannot do eccentrics with it. So lowering a barbell is a nope. Anyway, this is what I managed:

- Bench off a 1 board: I got all the way to 120kg when I broke my shoulder. Which is annoying, it was shaping up to be a good day.

I tried benching a little lighter, but still nope. So I switched gears and did:

- 10 x 10 on Leg Press.

- 10 x 10 on seated row (which caused no issues).

- 5 x 10 on back extensions.

- 5 x 10 on tricep pushdowns (again no issues).

- 5 x 10 curls (I thought this would be an issue but nope).

Looks like I won't be benching for a while. I'll focus on rowing and such in the meantime and push the squatting a bit harder.

Bummer. Cool that you figured out several things to do instead, though. I am impressed by your equanimity. I'd probably be super impatient and frustrated. But it seems like you have a whole range of accessories up your sleeve that are going to contribute to your long term goals anyway.

Ha. You must be new here.

This is a rare display of level-headedness. Usually, I get very impatient and frustrated and push through. I'm well known for it. However, out of the thousands of injuries I have experienced and worked through, this shoulder thing is something entirely new and foreign to me. I'll give it a few days and see how it goes... (before I get frustrates and impatient and push through it)...

Fri 21 Dec

________________________________________________________________________________

So.... today was good and bad.... first the good:

Training

Dynamic Effort Lower

I did it... I squatted 200kg today (to a box and in a single ply suit)...

- Box Squat with SSB and single ply suit: 8 doubles at 150kg, then YOLO'd my way up to a PR of 200kg.

- DL: 3's up to 165. Not a PR but still up over last time.

- Comp Squats: 5's up to 110kg.

- Leg Press and Back extensions for accessories.

The only thing that irritated my shoulder was using an underhand grip on the DLs. Oh, and grabbing the bar for squatting - I ended up using a claw grip to reduce the torque in the shoulder.

I have really upped my cardio this week... I'm doing 10-15mins daily of sprints on the C2 +  some cycling.

And now for the bad:

Other stuff

- My little pupper had a stroke this morning... confusion, weakness, falling over, the whole thing. So we had an emergency vet visit. Hopefully he will make a full recovery... but who knows. He is getting quite old. I've had him for 13 years.

Oh no! Best wishes for Pup's speedy recovery.

Congrats on the 200kg squat. That is heavy, man.

You were impatient. You are now the paragon of lifting injury related wisdom and restraint.  So... do you think it is okay to just ignore minor tweaks and resultant stiffness? What's the sensible lifter's protocol for things that are too small to see the doctor about?

I am frankly not the best person to ask. Since I picked up a few injuries in the military back in 2001, I have been in pain on a daily basis. I, personally, ignore most of it. I tend to think that most minor things can be ignored. I've had some really good training sessions when I've felt beaten up AND I've had some really poor sessions when I've been feeling great.

Most of the time, I just hammer my mobility and rehab/prehab stuff and hope for the best during the harder sessions.
