JonFirestar: Countdown to Awesome (181 days to Oblivion)

Recommended Posts

Week 4 Friday!

I feel like my social mana has been completely depleted today despite it being a very unsocial day. It's probably anxiety about all of the socialising I'm going to be forced to do over the next few days. I'm not looking forward to Christmas this year. I'm not going to promise to update every day through Christmas but I'm going to keep this challenge rolling until new year.

Eat to Help your Goals, not Harm them.

2366 calories. My weight is dropping nicely right now but I despise being low carb. I"m not sure how long I can keep it up for. Not that it's going to be kept up after tomorrow anyway.

Let me get this straight... You are lifting (deadlift) more than what you are weighing?! I can't remember that I realised that before. Good going!

Sure I actually deadlift and back squat more than my own body weight. My current weight is actually relatively light for my lifts. I’m actually not that far away from being able to deadlift twice my body weight.

Merry christmas Jon!

and yes!  it sounds very impressive to me as well.  OTOH; I really Need to get back to weight lifting.  i totally lost my program.

that kind of accomplishment is surely what happens when you STICK to a good lifting program.

consistency has ALWAYS been one of my problems.

And I said actually way too many times in that statement! Honestly it isn't as big an achievement as it sounds. I am working hard to maintain and increase my strength but the simple truth is that I'm riding he great amount of strength that comes when one gets incredibly overweight. When you gain weight you don't just gain fat you also gain muscle and that is why I'm quite strong. It's like playing with cheat codes.

Thanks but the same thing :) It isn't as impressive as all that in reality. I am quite strong but I'm quite strong because I was fairly active and stupendously overweight. Just moving my body around built that kind of strength. I've been working on getting stronger, and I probably have gotten stronger, but the biggest improvements are probably the motor control patterns in learning the lifts themselves (I've gotten better at lifting and not necessarily much stronger).

You are on the other hand quite right that consistency is key in all things and there is no doubt that I'd still be as strong as I am if I hadn't kept up lifting. Especially given the amount of weight I have lost. Consistency in training is the one thing that I've really been able to maintain, whether that is running or lifting.

Christmas Update

So I didn't keep up quite as much as I'd have liked to over Christmas (or at all). I had a good time though. I spent the Three days in the South of Wales with my sister and Mother. I don't see them very often and it's always nice to get some time with them. Christmas itself was fairy uneventful. I ate a lot of good delicious food and gave and received presents. I also played with a lot of dogs.

Eat to Help your Goals, not Harm them.

We went away on the 23rd. I didn't track on any of the days that I was away and I always knew that things were going to go off the rails over Christmas. I regret nothing. I did have a mini goal of trying to be mindful of the days around Christmas though.

23rd. Food was good. I've no idea of the calories but I made breakfast and lunch for the journey and my mother cooked us pasta for when we got there. As far as these things go an easy win.

24th. Things went downhill fast :) a huge breakfast with my sister and her (adult) kids. This is a bit of a tradition. The breakfast was big but quite delicious. Dinner was the beginning of the christmas treats. I ate too much but I didn't gorge myself.

25th. I ate all the Christmasy things. Including way too much dessert.

26th back to being reasonably good.

I'm actually really happy with how this went this time round. I was able to enjoy Christmas without spending a week shoving all the things into my face.

Run

I ran 8 miles on Christmas morning. I had located a small woodland park near to where I was staying and decided to go run there. It was very wet and still dark wehn I went out running and that meant that the woodland was really boggy in places and, with it being Wales, incredibly hilly. So the few miles that were in the woods were very slow. I did keep getting lost and turned around in the dark but I was able to rely on my gps watch to get me back on track.

on the 26th I did a 5k rolling hill tempo run on the treadmill.

Strength Work

I went to the Gym on morning of the 23rd to do bench, and in the afternoon of the 26th for squats and a short run.

OCR Type Stuff

23rd I did a metcon

AMRAP 20 minutes

5 burpees

10 pushups

15 sit ups

20 air squats

The pushups slowed me down drastically because I was doing it right after a heavy bench session. I managed only 7 rounds in the time.

Mince Pie List

I think I have failed...

Glad you enjoyed the Christmas meals without going overboard! Find that right balance is always tricky business. You want to enjoy yourself and treat yourself a bit for all the hard work you put in the rest of the year, but it is really hard to not overdo it. Great job!
