DJTrippyT: 100 Days and counting

Recommended Posts

100 days...

I don't have a super exciting theme this time, but I'm here to throw down. I one goal for the next 100 days: I want to finish in the top 50 in my age group, in my state, in the Crossfit Open which starts exactly 100 days* from now.

I am going to do the unthinkable and focus my addled rangerbrain on one goal for that time period. Honestly, I love training and I'm super stoked to do it so the workout bits won't be hard, but focusing on one thing is going to be agony. I have terminal workout ADD.

I have a rotating setup of workouts that are a combination of Crossfit-style couplets and triplets (the most common workouts that come up in the open), strength, and Crossfit benchmark workouts (which are the "named" workouts that you have probably heard Crossfit people natter about, like "Grace", or "Diane", or "Murph"). After 8 workouts the routine repeats. I have (roughly) 14 weeks til the competition starts, so I'll run thru the 8-workout cycle about 7 times.

I'll be on my bike a lot to keep my cardio up, and on the rower at the gym.

I also have to work on my weak spot of gymnastics and pullups, as they always feature hugely in the Open and I can't do pullups yet or handstands.

That is all. Impede me at your peril.

*Actually it starts somewhere between 95 to 103 days from now, because the exact date isn't set, but what kind of weaksauce title would that be? Please.

I vote you designate one of the otherwise unnamed workouts as "Sheena"

Today’s update is that I wrecked the kitchen to make a giant salad for dinner, sat down to eat it, and then flipped open my phone and found out that all the romaine in the known universe is poisoned and had to throw it away. This was disappointing and I wish I’d just ordered a pizza.

Also, you all should avoid lettuce and check the CDC website before every meal. It’s the only way to be sure.

I'm working late tonight so I'm updating while taking a break.

yesterday's workout:

pullups

Glute bridges

ham curls

Leg extentions

Then 30 minutes on the rower.

I had to really control the rangerbrain yesterday; I wanted to do a more cardio-oriented, faster workout, but I made myself stick to the program. Sunday's workout was very squat-heavy (thrusters and wallballs and kettlebell swings) so yesterday was designed to put pressure in the other direction. It took longer (hence the late work tonight) but it felt good and I was happy with it. I've lost a lot of strength with the two-week layoff, but that comes back pretty quick.

The 30 minute row was a grinder. I wasn't trying to go super fast - I think I did 4900 meters - but it's a long time to row. About 15 minutes in one of the guys working out in the gym hopped on the other rower and I entertained myself by matching our cadence so it felt like we were rowing a viking ship. That killed 5 minutes.

today I didn't work out because I'm trying to finish all the paperwork for the last two week's work so I can finally get it out of my hair. And also get paid. Slightly important.

But don't you want to see how much fun a 10k row is? ;)

Seriously this is a lot more fun when you are in a real boat. Especially when there is a team because then it's seriously like rowing a viking longship.

I feel you, but I love that you're sticking to your program! And 30 minutes on the rower is no joke. I miss the rower. I either need to get a new gym membership or find a rower for my house. Can't wait to see you progress in your CrossFit goals!

end of week zero update:

thursday was Thanksgiving, so obviously nothing was done there. Except eating. So much eating.

Friday was a complex day, because it was not only post-thanksgiving but my birthday. I had wanted to go the gym so I could say I did the birthday workout thing, but i also wanted to get some outside time and strike a blow against black friday, so I finally decided to go to Stone Mountain. I hiked an easy 2 miles. Then we went to the aquarium and I probably walked another mile admiring all the various fish.

Fun interlude: about halfway thru the aquarium visit my legs seized up from the Wednesday workout doms. So I walked into the aquarium sassy and confident and hobbled out like a person of 90.

Then we went out to dinner (just a pub/burger sort of place) and some friends of my boyfriend met us there and we had a nice time until I had to walk out the car. There was also cake involved, so Friday was another day of so much food.

Saturday I got back on track (not neccesarily food-wise, there was still cake around) and went to the gym. When I got there Mr. Curtis and one of the other trainers, Barry, were there watching football, so I came in and grandly announced "guess who turned 50 yesterday? ME!" and they all had a hearty laugh because they are both pushing 60 and could snap John Cena like a twig, and all of us were very amused. Good times.

Stuck to the plan for workout:

Leg press 3 x 8 @180

Bench press 4 x 5 @ 95

Tbar 3 x 5 @ 80 (slight increase here, good)

100 kettlebell swings @ 35

Then I did the prowler as a finisher. I usually do 200 lbs for 4 up-and-back pushes, but I added an extra lap to give me five - one for each decade. It seemed fitting.

the cake is still lurking in the kitchen.

Stealth DOMS are the worst. Can you walk again yet?

Yes, it only took about a day to fade. By friday i wa back in the gym and this time not nearly as sore. Whenever i have a layoff it takes a few workouts to limber up again.

I love it when people my vintage are kicking ass and taking names. Gives me inspiration to get after it!
