My last several challenges have been less than stellar, things are not going the way I would like at home and stress eating is a thing...I need workout endorphins to be a thing instead. I know this, but often times take the easy way out.

Not only is my other half not encouraging when it comes to eating and helping out anymore. Now I get guilt trips when I go to the gym, or if I do 5k's if they're on a day she happens to have off work :( It's not like she has a regular schedule I could go by when signing up for them. I'm really trying not to let the lack of support I have at home derail me any longer.

For those that are new to my thread, I'm semi-addicted to 5ks, used to be 95% Paleo but have fallen off lately. I work as an accountant for a minor league baseball team. Season is crazy but I love my job! Off season is slow and can even be boring at times  Last challenge I hired a personal trainer, he is aware of my limitations (I have RA, nerve damage in my neck from a car accident) and is working with me to lose weight and get into shape. I also booked a cruise for my next birthday (my 50th in October 2019) so I have a reward, now lets work on the goals!

So yes, back to the goals I have by 50!

I want to be able to run (yes run) a 5k, I want to complete a 10k, and I want to start looking to do a 1/2 Marathon.

I want to lose about 45 lbs, or fit in the size I could wear when I weighed that just 7 short years ago.

I want to be well on my way of having our debt paid off, by this time next year I want to only have the house, cars, and the big CC left, and the CC should be over 1/2 way there, oh, and the student loans...I'll work on those after I get the rest done.

So, in order to meet these goals this is what I'm going to do:

- Watch what I eat, the restrictive way of eating doesn't work for me since I am not the only one eating it. (I was doing plant paradox previously)

Challenge goal, don't eat like an ass

- Start working out again. I want this to be habit and second nature. Get to the gym! If I make excuses and don't go then do a bodyweight, kettlebell workout, or get on the treadmill at home.

Challenge goal, get to the gym at least three times a week minimum, aim for five workouts a week total

- Pay off 'one more' thing...I 'snowball' our debt to try to get it eliminated. I had this done for the most part then we bought the house, and everything we needed for it, etc...happened and it got a bit out of control,  just need to continue working it till it's gone. This is almost done on the ones that can be paid off in a challenge and getting to the point it's going to take more than one challenge to pay them off completely.

Challenge goal, finish paying off the last one I can pay off in one challenge and start on the next one. Don't go overboard at Xmas and make it worse!

Bonus challenge goal(s), checking in here, I get busy and forget at times but I'm aiming for three days a week to not get off track. Domestic Rangering, since I have no help on this front either start using the Clean My House app I have again to keep me on track.

I am in a house this year so that makes some things stressful, but I used my annual bonus to pay off some of the smaller things and used it to get things like decorations, etc...will use the rest to purchase gifts for the holiday so it doesn't derail the budget. The raise I got will help offset the increase in insurance and give a little bit more to put towards stuff in the upcoming year. I want to get back into candle making as well, I have a few friends with shops and that do craft fairs that we could split cost and help bring in more income.

Oh man, I would love to!! We sail out on Oct 27th and get back on the 2nd though :(

Dammit! I was totally gonna suggest meeting up as well. I guess I’ll have to go back for the Princess Half in February the year after so we can hang.

That sounds like a plan, maybe I'll be ready to do it with you by then! :D

Borrowed from elsewhere...PSA for those of us in the US today:

Quote

Reminder: Don't buy into Thanksgiving day guilt.
It's just one day. Just one meal (or 2-3 if you're in my family).

The calories don't count more than once.
The pie does not come with extra fat-inducing sugars.
The pounds of turkey do not require a workout to burn them off.
It's one freaking day.

If you worked out for 5 hours in one day, would you suddenly be shredded, lean, and muscular? No. So one day of eating is no different than one day of crazy exercise. It's one day.
The choice is yours on how you enjoy it.

Workout or don't.
Eat more than usual or don't.
Have an extra dessert or don't.

Whatever you do, let it be your choice. Your decision. And let there be no guilt. And, certainly, no punishment or mindset that you must "undo" the damage. Because it doesn't exist.

Like any celebration -- it's not about the food. It's about the people and the memories. You have plenty of other days to think and focus on calories and healthy eating. One day does not make a difference.
Enjoy. Be grateful. Have fun.

Happy Thanksgiving!

In my effort to update more...

Made it to the appointment with the trainer on Friday, OMG, especially after I went a bit overboard on thanksgiving...didn't worry much about eating the rest of the weekend, because let's be honest, leftovers are amazing!

Started today with "don't eat like an ass" which consists of: Green smoothie in the morning (no fruit or sugar added, I'll post the recipe if anyone is interested. I make them up ahead of time and freeze), wrap for lunch (these Paleo wraps, mixed greens, avocado, and a little tuna or other protein), some mixed nuts for a mid afternoon snack, and a protein and veggie for dinner (this will vary depending on what I feel like cooking). Got up and went to the gym this morning, did cardio (treadmill) instead of weights but it's better than not going at all.

Also updated my spreadsheet to properly color code everything with conditional formatting...I apparently messed it up when copying things over at some point :) I'm a happy geek now!

Following.

I've been falling off the workout wagon bigtime, but my bike commute is a steady fixture. Can you trick your brain into pretending going to the gym is really just a long commute? Can you go into work later those days and take a shorter lunch to make up for it? I don't know if your job has that flexibility. But that's what me and MFH started doing to get to the climbing gym during the week when we realized I was a basket case in the evening. The days we don't climb (which is most of them), I still ride in. This mornign I was running late and pretty much told myself that the universe can't possibly hinge on the extra 20 minutes it takes me to ride in and change clothes vs drive and not change. Again, I'm lucky in my job, but it's a thought.

Current challenge:This is not how daemoncorax used to wake up

Previous challenges: DaemonCorax doesn't go on vacation

(STR 21; DEX 3; STA 10.5; CON 8.3; WIS 15; CHA 2 - but these are SUPER out of date.)

While we have to stay away from the desert, we can always ride our bikes.

Nice to know there is a tradition that actually dictates it.

I know it's just easier to put up after Thanksgiving... my Christmas sweaters have been pulled out.

Personally looked into perhaps trying a personal trainer at my school to help get a better start. Have you had good experience with personal trainers?

This is my first one, he seems to know what he's doing, especially with regards to my neck injury and limitations with my right arm/weight restrictions. I mostly need someone to show me what to do with all the intimidating equipment and something besides a treadmill or elliptical! He seems proficient at that. :)

I would agree on "the later the better" but it came in last week (for those unaware, after over a year living in an RV when I moved back to FL I am now in a house, so having to replace everything I got rid of when we moved) and with two new kittens I wanted to give them a chance to get used to it before I decorated...it's a prelit tree so that is literally how it comes out of the box looking LOL

little update...food is good, made Paleo brownies last night so my wife wouldn't go get anything bad for us. Didn't get up and go to the gym today but am determined to go tonight after work, going to drag my wife with me since she burnt out the treadmill motor (in her defense, it was used when we got it, figured we'd get to use it more than twice though)

We didn't have a tree last year. No one has said anything about getting one this year, and I am happy to let that conversation stay dormant. I am sure that Amber would LOVE to climb a tree. She climbs everything else in the house. Our tradition is that the tree stays up through Twelfth Night, so it goes up the week before Yule.

Hmmm, interesting report about your treadmill. Dumbledore has been doing research on what kind to get. He said that a lot of the used ones are unreliable. That makes it worth it to get a new one with a warranty and extended service. I certainly hope so. I want to get a LOT of use out of a piece of equipment we spent that much money on.
