Raptron Saberhagen in the Lap of Luxury

raptron

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Raptron. I'm really good at staying active and maybe have a problem with recovery... sometimes. I mean is it a problem, really?!

This challenge, I will channel some of my inner Salem Saberhagen, from Sabrina the Teenage Witch and be... lazier.

giphy.gif

1. All the sleep

  • Aim to be IN BED by 11 pm on 4 of 5 weeknights per week

2. All the eats

  • 4/5 work lunches per week must have (at least a fistful of) protein, green vegetables, and a starchy grain or other carb-dense food
  • One weekend meal must meet the above criteria

3. Pamper thyself

  • Schedule a massage
  • Heavy shoulder PT exercises 2x per week
  • Pick one thing for my Christmas "treat yo'self" gift (this is more to head off the usual "well I might as well get something for meeee" trend I fall into every year)

4. Do what makes you feel good

  • One yoga session per week

Meanwhile, I'll still be gearing up for gymnastics season and our first competition on December 8th, participating in a lifting mock meet on December 15, running a 5k on Dec. 1, trying to get more cardio-focused conditioning in, and otherwise staying up to my usual shenanigans.

Zero Week Update

It's Thanksgiving week here in America, so I'm noooot going to be living that #restandblesst lifestyle just yet.

I went to gymnastics practice last night, with a burning desire for more tumbling. I threw so, so, so many really good timers (set-up versions, basically) for the front handspring front pike front tuck combo, but still didn't get myself to go for it in a meaningful way. It's IN there, I'm just being a butt about it, I guess. Everyone in the gym was super low energy, so that was a little bit of it, I think. I also got my front tuck step-outs ready for a double salto situation, so maybe I'll do some of those on Saturday. The rest of practice was balance beam, PT, and stretching. Post-practice, my two friends and I went out for fancy dinner where one of them works so we got a lot of food and boozes and then had "one more drink" at the next place we always hang out. I technically DID have one more drink, but we were still there late. My new bedtime rules should be great.

I have a half day today, then I'm going to lift and start making pies and things.

I want to get a run in tomorrow morning before I start up all main day cooking -- I host T-day, but tbh, most of my friends around here have family around here so it tends to be pretty small. My bartender friend I would go visit post-dinner every Thanksgiving moved so I'm trying to figure out where to go this year. I bring pie!

Daytime drinking + early bed is the way to do it!

supes excited for your Sabrina challenge. Have you seen the newest iteration on Netflix? I actually enjoyed it.

Yes! It was good! I want it to kind of buckle down and figure out what it wants to do thematically, but love so much of the atmosphere and camp and the aunties, haha.

OKAY. Funny how the world doesn't stop just because you are on vacation. I mean, I didn't technically stop either, but it was a much more sloooow few days than my usual.

Wrapping Up Zero Week

tumblr_md7o4cLcv11qd2pfqo1_250.gif

Wednesday lifting -- I had a pretty low-key lifting day because only one other person was there that early in the day on Wednesday. I did some heavy deadlift singles (3 x 1 x 300#), which are such a huge mental struggle for me, so it felt like a big victory to get them up that many times. They weren't perfect but they moved weight, so, hey! This workout also had ohp, kneeling one armed KB presses, hypers, and chin-ups.

Thursday Thanksgiving -- I was really serious about going for a jog, but it was 12 degrees and super windy so I changed my mind. Kitchen dancing while cooking is definitely cardio, anyway. I cooked all day, hosted a few friends for the big meal, and wound up STAYING IN because we couldn't decide where to go and I was super sleepy. (Who am I?!?! Salem mode already starting to set in.) I made 2 pies (this was mostly done on Wednesday), cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, my favorite cauliflower recipe, shredded brussels salad, rolls, and turkey with gravy, of course. Here's my turkey, Barbara:

085dd13f097a5314c7bc80a9b74f1772.png

Friday lifting -- I rolled into the gym thinking that a rest day and lots of food would set me up for super success! However... heavy deadlift singles take more than a day to recover from, hah. My legs did not cooperate well with my prescribed squats, so I wound up lowering the weight to 245#. Bench was pretty happy though, with doubles at 130# actually moving for the first time in for-ever. The rest of that workout was lat raises, paused squats, and bodyweight rows. Went home, watched some Netflix movies (Ballad of Buster Scruggs!), and started the new-er God of War.

Saturday gymnastics -- Legs so tired. Front tumbling went so bizarrely wrong. I just wasn't finding myself in the air well and kept opening up early and doing very strange things, haha. I did throw 2 of my front handspring + front tuck step-out + round-off + back tuck passes, though, so those are brushed off for the Dec. 8th meet. Did some beam, but my back was tired and front walkovers felt like a lot. Instead, I mostly focused on beam routines and round-offs on the high beam to stop being a little baby about them. Got some lunch with teammates and then went home... and ... I don't really know. Oh! I read a book, The Dark Lord of Derkholm (which is really goofy/earnest in a similar way to Pratchett's Discworld books) and started on the sequel (Year of the Griffin, which I finished this morning and also loved).

NO SOCIAL CALENDAR WEEKEND, basically~!

Sunday lifting -- Followed a similar schedule to Friday and went in for major accessories work, aka conventional deadlifts and more OHP and upper body nonsense. I did some conventional singles at 260, then did reps at 245 and 225, trying to really focus on ham and glute recruitment (a chronic problem in my life). OHP was a super struggley at sets of  85# x 4. I did some handstand play between sets because I was 100% alone in the gym the whole workout. I was pretty consistent in the 10-20 range but didn't get any nice, LONG holds. The rest was bent over DB rows @ 35#, chin-ups, and some CURLS FOR THE GURLS, BAYBEE.

Unfortunately, my back was still tired, and about 2 hours after this workout, it decided it was NOT A FAN of my life choices and proceeded to stiffen up. I did meal prep and movie night (I just brought leftovers from t-day, but helped others cook) after my workout at some gym friends', which is apparently an every Sunday tradition for some of them that I'm now invited too. Weee. I maybe talked during most of the movie though (it's one of my gifts... flaws?!?!? context-specific gift or flaw), so we'll see if I'm ever allowed back.

Text dump over.

And now, here we are, at the start of a challenge and the start of a new week to wrap up November!

Oh no you're one of those haha :P Hopefully they don't mind too much. ;)

How are you feeling about the meet at this point, it's coming up pretty soon eh?

Thanks for the book recommendation - reserved it from my library!

I stay on topic! And it's not like asking questions about what just happened or "why is he doing that" (classic watching movies with my parents questions), just... somewhat snarky commentary. I CAN'T KEEP IT IN. THE SNARK OVERFLOWS.

I didn't meal prep anything! I just brought a tupperware of food (turkey, stuffing, mash, and brussels) to eat myself. It's basically a BYO-Dinner situation. I have carbs + protein 10000% set for the whole week, but may need to make more veggies to make it through the goal for the work week. :)

Ohhh, haha! Sorry for the lack of important hyphenation. Yes, it's a singular event where folks go over to this one guy's house, cook in his kitchen/use his grill for food for the week, eat dinner, and watch a movie!

The mass meal prep sounds like a lot of fun! :D  (And snarking at movie nights really should be a social norm, MTS3K'ing/Cinema Sins'ing makes them so much better.)

Sorry to hear that your back got grumpy with you, hopefully it's feeling a bit better!
