Rise Above (the Pull-Up Bar!)

Recommended Posts

Added 12 pullups from Monday and 10 from Tuesday, bringing me up to 1,480 points total. I'm under no illusions that I'm ever going to catch @jonfirestar or @Tobbe now, chiefly because without doing negatives or assisted pullups I can't hit that kind of volume.

Holy shit dude that awesome! I can't hit a full 5x5. You'll be racing me across the rigs next time we-re at an OCR.

TBF I had to come down and reset for some of those reps! I'm not quite knocking them out yet! I've got a long way to go before I'm nearly as obstacle proficient as you are but I guess we'll see how much I can catch up in March ;)

I can't really deny that I'm playing the numbers a little bit :) but in my defence I'm not really doing anything differently to what I was doing before the PVP, I've just massively increased the volume of it. I'm actually really quite pleased with the fact I was still able to progress the weight on the high volume pull ups today.

Today's workout:

Bodyweight 4A 2018-12-05

Start: Jump with both feet together - 3 sets duration: 40

4 rounds
Resistance band thrusters reps: 19
Divebomber Pushups reps: 12
Negative chin-ups reps: 10

Deadhangs - 2 sets 40 secs + 70 secs

On top of that I added 10 extra reps of negative chins, and 10 reps of negative pull-ups

So, all in all, that should be 611 points

I'd say do the negatives. If it's  too easy for you, you could do them super slow, or just the fact that you still have to do more will up your volume and thus difficulty.  I can do a full pull up, but I'm also doing negatives.

I could do, but I don't think I'd get much benefit from them (aside from scoring some points!). I'm also a bit worried about putting loads of volume in from an injury point of view, bearing in mind my pullups are in addition to 3 workouts and 1 climbing session every week.

I may stop with this challenge because of my ellbow :S

Definitely stop or at least back off if things aren't feeling right. PvPs can have a tendency to make people go a bit mad and jump in too hard into an exercise (I've definitely blown up a shoulder on a push-up PvP before, and I've done some silly things for Daily Dares. I'm sure you could find a lot of other stories around this forum!)

I may do push ups instead (out of competition ;) ).

Wow, sorry for going AWOL. I suck at regularly updating...

Anyway, you guys are killing it! I'm just going to add my measly 910 points from my workouts and other 'can't resist doing more' shenanigans, but I have no illusions of catching up!

I'm sitting here with T-Rex arms (which may not have been the best idea the evening before an archery tournament), but I did the following:

1 full chin-up (and 2 failed attempts at a second chin-up, and 2 failed attempts at a pull-up)

4 negative chin-ups (and a couple of failed attempts at negative pull-ups and negatives with neutral grip)

20 seconds of underhand deadhanging

40 seconds of overhand deadhanging

30 seconds of neutral grip deadhanging

Failed in my plan today :(  I wanted to get a full workout in today, but we were having guests over, and it took all day to clean the house and get all the food done...

So all I managed today was 55 negative chins and 17 negative pull-ups. ("All" as in that I only did pull work, not a full workout)

Holy crap you guys :o

When I left a week ago I was in first place and now the 2nd place score is already 10x my score....

Way to go you guys.  You are killing it! :)

Is that even your hand? I think it's all smoke and mirrors to lure us others in to a false sense of being able to beat you! Then you'll come back and report 3000 points for one day! :P

Just kidding. Sorry about your hand. Hope it heals up quickly!

I mean that would be a good trick. It looks far less dramatic with all the blood cleared away but I've got a nerd meetup climbing trip on Saturday and I don't want to make things any worse for then. I did grab myself 60 points this morning with 6 full pullups.
