KB Girl: snatches over 9000!

Sunday we had an early Christmas celebration with my father's family. It was nice. I made a no-dairy oatmeal and fruit cake for dessert which was well received :) I managed to get in a quick training before we had to go (10:00 snatch with 10kg, 200+ reps, which was a nice PR) but I didn't clean up the mess I made while baking. Came home very tired and did not want to clean up even a little bit of that mess. That spiralled into not taking my end of day notes, and not doing duolingo.

Post fun cooking clean-up is still the worst.

Tuesday my head was still messy but it was actually a pretty good day. Head prevented me from training though, kept coming up with reasons not to, which mostly centred around "your training won't be perfect so why even bother" which is the thought I struggle with most.

My game I play when I have the perfectionist training thoughts tends to be "well what would I do if I don't go?" Since I don't have any real responsibilities (like a child), that usually means "watch 2 more hours of Netflix," and it becomes a bit easier to make myself go. If it's more like "well, I'd probably get some cooking done and go to bed early," then maybe my brain is correct that those things would be better than training for once. :)

Wednesday was MUCH better, it's my no-work day which is nice. Lots of time with Emma, who is currently obsessed by all things firemen related. I hadn't trained for 2 days so I was determined to get something done and just brought her to the gym with me. We played, we crawled, we hung in the rings.. I did squats, ring rows, top position holds and someone distracted her for a bit so I could do a 10:00 snatch set with 8kg. Not bad.

Love this. One of our owners has been bringing his daughter on Wednesday and there is a foam floor area that she has just been having the best time throwing mats around, crawling, and making forts, haha. It's super cute.

I think I should invest in some mats and other fort building material :)

My perfectionist thoughts are more along the line of "a world class athlete would do a training like this and you neither have the 3 hours to spend on that or the ability to focus for that nor can you handle the volume so you might as well give up now, go home and wallow in your loserness" which isn't at all helpful. The thoughts, nor the wallowing. I've been trying to train myself to just do what I can do, with the time I have.. and also with the energy level I have.. and not compare to the ideal I have in my head. I'm actually getting better at it I think.

Challenge already over.

I think it went pretty well! The last days were the least successful, but still not so bad. I'm enjoying being back here and having some focus.

Jaap and I discussed our goals for 2019, both personal and business, which was nice. I'm going to put some thought into breaking down the steps to get there and what to do for next challenge.

Last report; Friday was good. Saturday was a mixed bag. I did a 7:30 snatch set with 12kg at high pace. Ended up with 143 reps with is only 7 away from my PR, which for me is a really good training result. Then I tried some jerks, but stopped because my left shoulder send a spike of pain up my neck.. and then an hour after I couldn't more my right arm overhead anymore. Jaap says that it must be my neck and he did some things to fix its positioning.. the pain reduced by a bit.. and today (Sunday) it's already quite a bit better. It scared me a little, but hopefully it'll be fixed soon. And hopefully it was just from bad sleeping or something, not something I did in training.

Hope you all have a good holiday!

You are so strong! I'm glad you are back. Hope the shoulder continues to heal.

Thank you :) It's feeling much better already.

I was actually feeling a bit sad the other day because I am still not back to pre-pregnancy strength levels.. but then I couldn't have done this snatch set, so maybe its just different.

Yea it's much better and I can pretty much do everything.. but I can still feel it not being 100% right.. which is worrisome. Not sure what's going on exactly and I hate that.

Pretty much done plotting my next challenge.. but... I don't know which guild to put myself in :/

I absolutely refuse to be a ranger.. I specialise! NOT a jack of all trades. and I dislike crossfit pretty intensely. Or anything that's kind of like a 'workout'.

Assassins are where my heart is at, if it weren't for this silly sport of mine I'd put all my focus into learning skills like that. I admire movement.

Scouts are where my goals should be at, I seriously lack endurance for my sport.

But same kinda goes for warriors, I need more strength too- and I like that a whole lot better. Plus I'm considering picking up some weightlifting for GPP again.

I could even be an adventurer, planning lots of hikes and camping trips this year. Not in the next 4 weeks though.

Thoughts? Votes? :P

Ranger. Definitely Ranger.

I don’t see Rangers as jacks-of-all trades. I see them as being in that optimal spot between strength and endurance. Except sometimes I see them as the fitness misfits who don’t fit anywhere else.

Really though, go where the people are who inspire you or who’s company you most enjoy. Which I suspect would be the Assassins. Don’t worry about whether or not your square peg fits into the round hole.

You know it. A kettlebell is a lethal weapon indeed => assassin.

But it really doesn't matter, you can't hide from us. ;)

Could it be that it's just different, rather than "wrong", and that you don't recognize it?

hmm... interesting question! pretty sure something is wrong though, still have this feeling of a very mild electric shock running up my shoulder/neck when I lift my arm above and behind me. Also my fingers fall asleep a lot, which is odd.. and seems wrong to me.

That's a lovely thought :)

The NF description says jack of all trades.. I don't see rangers as fitness misfits- really they're the most fitnessy people out there? More focussed on fitness than on skills or sport.

And yea, assassins inspire me, but there are a lot of great people with the rangers too. A lot of people who do crossfit I like too- but I still don't like crossfit :P

Ok that's definitely wrong, sounds like some kind of nerve impingement. Should go and get that fixed!

yea! not sure how.. or maybe I do and I just have to have a little more patience.

I really think you should see a PT about this, nerve things can get unpleasant! And it might be easily fixable so there's no point in waiting around. You're an athlete, treat yourself like one. :)

Sore bum + shoulder impingement = fitting right in :P well actually  impingement is no fun at all, I hope you can get it sorted.

basically KB sport is like going back in time 80 or so years when it comes to emancipation. The international federation is mostly governed by former Soviet Union countries, which means stuffy old dudes who believe women belong in the kitchen make the decisions. Only since 2001 are women allowed to compete at all, and then they thought if they did anything other than one arm moves their boobs would be damaged and their uteruses would fall out. (really, there was actually a document published about this)

So this has been slowly changing.. and some people fed up with dealing with people who live 80 years in the past founded their own international federation where they allowed women to just do everything.. but that's not all good either, because men only have 2 disciplines and now women have 4. I think equality works both ways you know? So I'm working as my countries representative to get them to change that, at the European championship last november we had a voting meeting and I suggested we add a discipline for men and announce the removal of one for women in 2020, so we'll all have the same 3 disciplines.. there was a HUGE argument about it, but we voted and it passed :) so I'm proud of that.. but very much crossing fingers right now that men will actually go lift in the discipline in 2019, hehe.

Just catching up, I had no idea  Awesome job on that one!

What assassins skills are you thinking of?

Is it because it would be too much to combine both? or is it because you'd rather specialise on your sport?

Thank you!

I did go with the assassins :) It's also where I started out and I wanted to pick something to do at home and you and @Elastigirl really inspired me to go with paralettes, so that's assassiny!

Yea my main focus will be my sport for the next half year at least.. I want to do well at the world championships in may and re-evaluate after that. Half of the people at my gym train bells and the other half train bodyweight skills, (floor, rings, paralettes), so it's not a specific skill I'm after, just admiring it all in general. Depending on the season I could probably physically combine it a bit, but time-wise.. hmm.. no.

You're 100% right! but Jaap looked at it and did give me the homework to do.. so I should probably just do that work and wait on that a bit without all the panicky thoughts.
