What are we using as the start/finish days for the 'Week'?  Starting from today going Tue-Mon every week, starting from a fixed time across all time zones (i.e. 12:00am GMT), or from whatever each person counts as the start and finish of their own challenge week?

I wanted to start on Jan 1st, so this "week" will only be six days. It'll end on Sunday. Next week (week 2 of the year) will be Monday 7th - Sunday 13th.

But I'll be flexible. If you want to use the american weeks, with Sunday as the first day of the week, that's fine too, for now.

If this turns in to a proper challenge, with some contestants really battling it out for those scores I'll make the start/end more strict. But for now we can leave it flexible.

I decided to start with this one the list: "Memorize a quote"

  • Today's impossible will one day be your warm-up". It's a quote I always knew intuitively but never committed in my memory. I feel like it has applied to me looking back.
  • - Unknown

Bonus Quote just for fun:

  • ""People get what they get. It has nothing to do with what they deserve."
  • - Dr. House

I can't (and won't) do some of the items on the list (70, 74, 75, 86, 95, 96), so I cutted it and let random.org choose what to do this week.

It's number 1:

Borrow a book from the library, finish it during the week

I am not a member of the library in my town and I won't be in my hometown this week (where I have a membership) so I will borrow an ebook from the hometown library and hope it works :D

Great start! And a golden star for being the first to report in on a successfully completed task :D

It is: Vom Schweden, der die Welt einfing und in seinem Rucksack nach Hause brachte: Reisen in die Ferne und zu sich selbst

(För den som reser är världen vacker)

From Google translate: "From the Swede, who captured the world and brought it home in his backpack: Traveling in the distance and to yourself"

I don't understand the last part, starting with "Traveling". Can you provide a better translation?

Does "Travelling far away and to oneself" (deepl) sound better?

I'd probably say "Traveling far away on your own" or "Traveling far away alone"

My German is all broken but I'd go for something more like an inner journey myself. My bet is that it is a variation of the hero's journey and as much about self-discovery than about outwards adventures. I'd translate it into something like:

"About Schweden, who caught the world in his backpack and brought it home: journeys far away and inside of his own self.*

I love German titles, by the way, it's so... complete and descriptive. :)

*This is, of course, a thinly disguised and feeble attempt to take advantage of @Arkania so that she corrects my understanding of Goethe's language...

Legally bound to hug people in need.

Living life as a Druid is about walking with the beasts. It's about being scared, looking your fears in the eyes and going on anyway. Dread doesn't go away, you just learn to know it. It's still a beast, it still has fangs, but you walk among it.

Yes, it does. Now I understand what it means :)

No, it means travel far away and to your inner self (so while you are travveling in another country you kind of "find yourself".

About Schweden

Close :)
It's not "Schweden", the country, but "Schweden", the dativ of "Schwede", the person (the swedish (man)).

And here I thought it was the name of the protagonist (I'm used to weird names)... xD Thanks for the correction. :)

I'm so in! Bonus: I completed one of the items on the list today!

I painted my living room and hallway. I'm a teacher and I've had this time off for the winter break. I just bought my first home, a condo (#bucketlist), and it's a perfect space... but all of the walls were white, white, white. I'm a much more colorful person. I picked out Behr's "Mustard Field" and went to town over a couple of days. I just did the final touch ups and started moving furniture back today. I have 2 week-long vacations left in this school year, and I'm going to paint a bedroom over each of them!

Then it would normally be "von Schweden" and not "vom Schweden" :)

Isn't that British English for "shit"? :P

LOL it's pronounced "shee-teh" (I'm pretty sure, but I'm still a beginner). There are japanese words that start with "shit" although Japan doesn't use the traditional A-Z alphabet.

Are you keeping score for everyone or do we do it for ourselves?
