First Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hi , I am Dot!

I have been a member of nerd fitness for years but this my first time posting in the forums.  I love scifi, books, history and music.  I work the night shift in a hospital.

My long-term  goals are to become more consistent with exercise and healthy eating, I also want to become more social, I've become a hermit and want to spend less time cooped up in my house.

So for this challenge, my goals are:

1. Workout 2 times a week.

2. Bring my own lunch to work instead of eating from the cafeteria.

3. Go to 3 social events a month.

Night shifts make it tough to be a social person. Seems like everyone plans things for when you're working and if you're not working you're too pooped to party.

Nice and manageable goals. Welcome to the rebellion!!

Yes! I have flaked on many events because I was tired and wanted to sleep-in, unfortunately, not too many people want to hang out at 1 am on a Wednesday!  Thank you!

Thank you! I am doing strength training program with dumb bells at home for now.  I used to do crossfit but stopped last year because they changed their schedule so it really wasn't compatible with mine anymore.

Week 1 is finished! I managed to workout 4 times this week and had a bonus frantic snow-shoveling session! I also brought my lunch to work everyday, I made turkey meatloaf with a baked sweet potato and a side of peas. There was a snowstorm in the middle of my 3 day work week so I did end up going to the cafeteria to buy a slice of chocolate pie after my car was stuck in the driveway and I ended up using Uber to get to work!. No social events yet, I am on meetup and everything seems to be scheduled on the days I work at this point but I found a few events coming up in a couple of weeks that I have signed up for.

Oh, what books and what periods of history are you in to? I love reading, and I'm a total civil war geek. You seem to have achievable goals that will stretch you but still be feasible, congrats on great goal setting. I can't wait to see you own them.

Thank you! I particularly love classical music history, it's a genre of music most consider mundane and boring now but all the controversies and scandals composers had to deal with during their time , I just find it all interesting but I also enjoy reading about any history in general. Steven Ambrose is my favorite historian, I think I've read all of his books! I also enjoy any Ken Burns documentaries on PBS!

I hope those work out and you are able to have fun with people! Go job hitting your other goals too.

Put together enough small wins over a long enough period of time,

and you’ll find yourself in high level gear fighting dragons before you know it.
