Shello's 2019 Kick-off Unchallenge

FItnessing has been going really well since before the holidays.  I'm ready to kick off 2019 but I don't want to jinx any momentum by tweaking my goals in any way.  So I'm kicking off 2019 with an unchallenge.  Imma just keep doing what I've been doing and share all the boring details with you lovely nerds.   

 

So what have I been doing?

 

  • Intermittent Fasting.  I've been fasting about 15 - 16 hours. 
  • Boot Camp.  I've been attending a boot camp at a drop in gym every Saturday morning. It's mostly people who work where I work and have been part of the healthy living weight loss program.  
  • Cardio.  I've been hitting local gym 2x a week to get some cardio done on the elliptical.  

 

In addition to those fitness non-goals, I plan to also work on 2 non-fitness goals from my 2019 roadmap.  

  • I want to get back to daily updates.  
  • I want to do something weekly to either reach out to long distance friends or relatives, or do something thoughtful for those near me.

My challenge didn't officially start until today but I'm trying to get in the habit of posting daily again... So I'm going to bore you with yesterday's update.  

 

Sunday - spent the morning with DDG and went out for brunch.  We didn't eat until at least noon.  I'm not exactly sure how long I fasted but it was easily 16 hours.  I saw a new 'Oreo' flavors over the weekend and I picked up a package of dark chocolate Oreo's.  They're better than meh, but not great.  Not enough to argue with DFG that they are a real Oreo.  I had a bunch of those for a snack.  I was extremely lazy with batch cooking for the week.  I picked up a store rotisserie chicken and steamed some broccoli and made some rice.  I squeezed a little lime on my serving and wrapped in a tortilla with some cheese.  While at the store I grabbed a carton of strawberry Hagen Daz too and finished the day with a little of that.  Calories were 1744. 

 

The dog was crazy yesterday so instead of a walk around the neighborhood we went to a small local lake.  I had no expectation about how long I'd walk but once I got there I was determined to just walk around the entire thing.  It took just under 2 hours, including one detour into the woods for no reason.  We weren't walking fast.  I was extremely sore from boot camp on Saturday and I let the dog stop when she'd find something interesting.  According to Fitbit it was 10,000 steps for the walk.  So I finished zero week with my boot camp class, 1 day at the gym, a substitute neighborhood walk, and a bonus lake walk.

Ugh, me too.  But 14 hours is about the best I can do with morning workouts!  Well, on my week I work evenings at least.  It's easier the week I work day shifts cuz I don't workout until 4pm those.  Glad you made it, Shello!

My boot camp class on Saturday was the hardest yet.. but then it occurred to me that it was the first one I had done still fasting.

Your body will get used to it.  Probably 80%+ of my CrossFit workouts are fasted at this point.  It doesn't seem to hold me back, but damn am I ever hungry after!

Monday - I only managed to fast for about 12 hours.  I stopped eating early enough Sunday night but I was famished Monday morning and ate one of the emergency Poptarts in my desk.   It wasn't wonderful timing since I had planned to eat out with DDG but I'm trying to listen to my body's cue's and if we're hungry, we're hungry.  Lunch was the usual egg skillet thing.  I indulged in a bit of chocolate in the afternoon.  There was an American Psycho movie party at a local theater.  We got rain ponchos, inflatable axes, and Patrick Batemen business cards.  DDG and I went to that and ate pizza at the theater.  I also had a few dark chocolate Oreo's right before bed that I definitely did not need.  Ended with 1960 calories.

 

No fitnessing was planned for the day but DDG and I took Dottie for a walk around the park and The Hill That Never Ends so I at least managed my step goal for that day and some bonus activity.

Emergency work rations are awesome. I use to store beef jerky and either cashews and almonds in my desk. And hidden cheese sticks in the fridge. If I could fit a whole elderscroll mammoth cheese wheel in my desk I would.

There is one theater in town in particular that has more of a party vibe.  Thursday we are going to a Labrynth Quote-along.  I'm expecting that to be quite fun too.

Emergency rations are a necessity.  I don't plan snacks daily since I haven't been eating them but on the occasion that I'm hungrier than normal it keeps me from the vending machines.

Tuesday - I only managed a 12 day fast again because of the previous night's late Oreo's.  Lunch was the usual egg skillet, then a little bit less chocolate than the day before.  I had planned to hit the gym after work but I had medical procedure done in the afternoon and I needed to take it easy afterward.  I wasn't feeling great afterward either so I decided to eat my feelings.  DDG had brought me some leftover nachos a couple days prior so my feelings tasted like nachos.  They were epic.   I spent the evening doing barely anything but DDG stopped by so at least I wasn't doing nothing by myself.

Damn, I got behind on posting again... Let's see how much I can remember.

 

Wednesday - The best reason to log food is it helps me remember the day.  Yes, my day revolves around food.  I fasted until lunch but from what I recall it was only a 12 hour fast since I had something late the night before.  I indulged in some dark chocolate in the afternoon.  I met a friend for happy hour and I ordered the chicken fingers from the appetizer menu.  They were freakishly large fingers from presumably mutant chickens and it came with 6!  I ate only 2 and brought the rest to DDG.  He had a stressful thing to do after work so we met up after that and hung out.  I got home late and realized I was hungry and had only eaten about 700 calories all day.  I had a PB and Dorito sandwich followed by some dark chocolate Oreo's and some chocolate milk.  I'm such a grown up.  Calories 1500.  No workout.  

 

Thursday - I had an early morning meeting on a different campus.  My stomach was growling during the meeting so I decided to take advantage of the hospital cafeteria.  They had tater tots for breakfast.  I grabbed some tots, bacon, and eggs but took it with me back to my campus so I could eat after my weigh in for the holiday healthy living challenge.  I lost 15 pounds over the holiday and I can't quite fathom how that worked.  My slightly cold tots were still epic.  I skipped lunch and had some chocolate later for a snack but I was really just stress eating since I was waiting for a call from the Dr.

I did get the call about an hour after littering my desk with chocolate wrappers.  Nothing serious to report but Dr put me on birth control pills.  I haven't been on the pill for a decade and a half.  I am not looking forward to any side effects.

 DDG and I went to a Labrynth Quote-along party.  I ordered the pizza and he got the mac and cheese and we shared.  This movie party was a lot of fun.  There was more audience participation and lots of props.  You can't go wrong with a room full of whoopie cushions.  

 

Friday - I didn't log food on Friday.  I started back at my counselor appointments and since I had my first one over lunch hour I just grabbed Jimmy Johns.  There was likely some chocolate in the afternoon.  For dinner I grabbed a giant deli pizza from the grocery store.  There were 4 teenagers in the house so I expected forced moderation.  The teens didn't eat as much as I figured and I totally overate.  

 

Saturday - I made up for the pizza at boot camp.  It was a brutal workout.  I didn't log food again but I made some bacon and cheez toast after boot camp.  While the bacon was frying I dug into the kids' stash of mini donuts.  That held me off through the afternoon.  I think there was some cheese and crackers midday and I don't recall what dinner was.  Oh wait...I do too.  I made monster cookies.  I had some cookie dough and a couple cookies and no longer had any room for dinner.  B)   I went over to DDGs in the evening once the kids were all settled in to ignore me the rest of the night.  I had a couple more monster cookies when I got home.

 

Sunday - I briefly regretted the extra cookies the night before but then I saw the Doodlie challenge for Sunday - Tuesday is no sugar.  I'm glad I had those cookies when I did!  I will have to hide some or the kids will have them all gone before I can eat them again.  I fasted ujntil lunch but Peach wanted to run out for some shopping.  We were out all morning so we just grabbed Jimmy Johns.  I started ordering my usual and then realized I couldn't have the diet coke.  I had to change it to water.  :(  I had some cheeze and crackers around dinner time while I made stuffed peppers for the week.  Then I had only a half of a stuffed pepper.
