It really does. The confidence boost that comes from lifting a weight you never in your wildest dreams would have imagined you could even move just six months ago, is real and lasting, and it follows you around long after the workout is over. There's a reason "confidence boost" is at the top of every list you've ever seen about non-weightloss reasons why women should strength train. (No 4 and 8 on that list are my personal top-two reasons.) :)
