RES: Can't get there overnight

It's no secret I'm not a patient person. One of the hardest things for me to deal with is I didn't get this way overnight, and I can't fix it overnight. Fixing it takes consistency, building habits that will last, not just get me to the goal and then going back to what I was doing and losing all progress made. I've learned a whole lot about what DOESN'T work for me lately, I've also learned that I can't abuse my body the way I used to when I was younger, recovery takes too damn long now!

I've been following a couple podcasts, one is Not Your Average Runner, the other is Phit-N-Phat, NYAR talks about running at any size and age, realistically. She also stresses the importance of not quitting on yourself, habit rather than motivation, and other types of good stuff. Phit-N-Phat is a woman that lost over 100 lbs and kept it off 24 hours at a time. She's where I stole the line "I didn't die or get pregnant" from. She talks about being realistic, making a 24 hour plan and sticking to it, (if you're going to have 12 hershey's kisses for breakfast, put it on your plan! LOL) and a lot of don't follow a diet unless that's how you're really going to eat...make it sustainable. If you want to eat Paleo or Keto for the rest of your life, fine, but don't do it to get to a goal weight and then go back. Pay attention to how you feel, are you really hungry? Are you bored? Are you eating your feelings? A lot of other good stuff from her too but I'd be here all day and I do have to work at some point ;)

The goals...

Lose 50 lbs (total) by October, 31st, that's 5 lbs a month

January - Done!

February - In progress

The plan....

1. Three runs, at least one strength training a week

2. Eat on plan, only when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full

3. Keep up here, post on my own thread at least once a week, and try to sleep (season is soon, sleep will be a challenge), take time for crochet projects and working through my kindle list each day.

I already drink at least 64 oz of water a day, more if I need it so I'm not putting that back on, bills and paying down debt is pretty automated now so leaving it off since it should just be what it is from this point forward.

Living life as a Druid is about walking with the beasts. It's about being scared, looking your fears in the eyes and going on anyway. Dread doesn't go away, you just learn to know it. It's still a beast, it still has fangs, but you walk among it.

I love the quote about showing your age. I have to wonder what people think women in their 40s and 50s "should" look like. Maybe they are just confused because for a long time women were pressured to lie about their age.

Not to mention, pressured in many ways to use various products to make our faces look like we are still in our mid-20s. Which is impossible, but when that fails to happen, remember that it is never, ever the fault of the products, it is because there is something wrong with the woman using them!

Excuse me while I vomit.

On that cheerful note, I am going to follow this thread because it has given me an excuse to post a video of a phenomenal divine diva, who was 70 years old when recording this....

?!@!!$&/?’ I was *just* freaking out about the same last week!

Because I consume way to damn much targeted-ad media (beauty shit on YouTube) and found a crows’ foot + décolletage wrinkle, I thought maaaaaaybe I should think about more products than just moisturizer. There’s sciencey shit out now, right?

Holy Mother Of Poop there’s some ridiculous skincare shit out there - and professionals that went to school to study that shit can’t agree what’s even beneficial, let alone “necessary” (aside from moisturizer).

I’m super cool looking like I’m in my 30s - just a less sun-damaged version might be nice when I’m like 70.

Ironically, given my recent post about skincare in this thread, last challenge period (saga chapter 9), one of my goals was to sort out my skin care routine. I love all the many types of products and how they work together, and can spend hours and hours researching them - for fun. There is some seriously sciencey shit out there, that just makes me all giddy and bouncy with excitement. :cool-new:

Disagree. Every one of those professionals will tell you (hopefully!) that a cleanser is necessary. Because in the modern world we live in there is filth in the air all around us, and you don't want that filth to mix with the moisturizer and be absorbed by your skin.

And sunscreen. Because photoaging and cancer. :)

This reminds me that I want to look into using something with SPF (thanks!).

I consistently hear that I look younger than I am. I've realized that it's not a good thing as I've seriously neglected any skin care routine because, "why bother, I don't NEED to?" even though that isn't true.

Also, did I say I'm following?

I think I actually look older wearing full makeup.

Elf, my non-binary 22-year-old, is into makeup. Far moreso than I ever was. There is a lot of makeup in the bathroom now, so sometimes I'm tempted to use it. Some of the problem is certainly due to my lack of practice, but I don't think the makeup does anything to make me look younger. I look like a dramatically made up middle-aged woman.

My doctor recommended that I start using moisturizer when I was in my early 40s. It makes my skin feel better. I use it after washing my face in the morning and before bed.

I like the Avena daily moisturizer with SPF 15 for everyday use. I have pale skin so I wear SPF >40 when I'm doing anything outside.

I'm trying really, really hard, to resist the urge to set out my soapbox and go off on a long and detailed rant about how most of us live in a society that has made women believe that makeup is a mandatory part of being a woman and the whole point of wearing it is to make yourself look young and more beautiful. You should all be grateful that I'm a at work right now...! :P
