obax
More of the same. Despite dropping off here, I continued with middling success through the end of the last challenge, but don't yet feel like I'm making real progress. The goals aren't much different this time 'round, I'm still making my way along this long road. Goal 1 ~ Run 3x/week. 2.4k route at least 1x/week and 4.1k route at least 1x/week, with an eye to increasing distance. Bonus goal: map out and run a route of at least 5k. Goal 2 ~ Physio and Stretching Simply do it daily. I'm going to finally have some more space to do this in, hopefully by the end of week 1. Bonus goal: Try out the first week of GMB Elements, with the intention to fully integrate this into my routine at some point Goal 3 ~ FitPin Test Components Pushups and back extensions, at least 3x/week. Testing the actual FitPin counts towards both of these (though I do need to do multiple sets of pushups to really be able to call it training). I'm not sure I'll be able to make the back extensions work, I don't currently have the space to do them in, I'm hoping I'll be able to make something work once I have more space in the basement. If I can't, I'll need to figure out an alternative for this. Goal 4 ~ Bedtime Different times on different nights, depending on how early a day I have the next day. Before an early morning: 10pm; before a normal morning: 11pm; before a day off: 12am. Goal 5 ~ Meal Prep At least twice a week. I still need to do a better job of planning ahead on this, but I definitely do a good job of eating what I've prepare instead of takeout, for example, when it's there for me to eat. Goal 6 ~ FitPin Test I've decided that I'll do the other components of the FitPin Test every time I run my 2.4k route, since I have to test it at least weekly for the OPP's fitness logs. They don't actually take very long to do, so there's no reason not to, and more is better than less on this. Other Things I've got my journal set up, it needs a little tweaking for next time but it'll do for now. I'm hoping having a hard copy right there in front of me will help me keep on track (and help me when I report on here, since I often don't remember how things went after a couple of days). I'll post pics once I figure out how to do so. I also want to figure out how to be more active here, I dropped off because I barely had time to update my own thread, let alone keep caught up on others' threads. I've come to realize that I have to sacrifice bedtime in order to keep properly caught up around here, which is obviously less than ideal. I need to pull some extra time out of a hat somewhere, I think.... Some other one-off's I'd like to get done in the near future (for some of them, not necessarily before the end of the challenge, but I should get them done sooner rather than later): ~ Request an ROE from the government ~ Sign up for a course on CPKN (and actually do it) ~ Clean my room (this needs to be done soonish, ideally by the end of Week 1) ~ Purge books etc (they're in a box, I just need to get them out the door) ~ Purge papers etc (it's really a whole bunch of accumulated detritus from nearly 38 years of life, and a serious purge is long over due) 3 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment
obax
Zero Week, Monday The gym. Did some squats that didn't feel great, and the WOD, which I actually enjoyed, though my abs disagree with my opinion today. The WOD was 21-15-9 of hollow body rocks (I can't rock yet, so I just go in and out of a hollow hold), KB swings, toes to bar (I just do knee raises), and then KB snatches. I really enjoy snatches of any kind, which I think is why I liked this one, and I did a good job of picking weights that were challenging but doable, and setting a decent pace (I'm not fast at either the hollow holds or toes to bar in particular, so I finished last, which I don't mind, but I definitely don't like that everyone watches...) Worked after that, and just ate and went to bed when I got home, so none of the other things were done. I didn't even make my bedtime since I was posting this thread (whoops)... Zero Week, Tuesday Ran, and then did the FitPin components. It went as follows: 2.4k run - 14:08 Pushups - 16 Trunk extension - 1:54 Flexibility - 0 The run is almost a minute and a half faster than my last one, which is what happens when I push it, and also when there's no snow and ice on the sidewalks... The pushups were 1 more, and the trunk extension was 5 seconds longer. The flexibility is what it is, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future (I can't even reach the start of the measuring tape, I will quite honestly be ecstatic with a score of 1/10 on this...) Had a physio appointment, and after setting my nerves on fire by doing my exercises after an appointment one day, my physio politely suggested I take it a little easier after appointments, so I will and just do a few stretches after posting this. Bedtime had already been missed, but 10pm is hard (I'm doing better at this than I thought I would, but it's still hard). Tomorrow Have not yet decided if I want to go to the gym tomorrow or take a day off. I often use Wednesdays as a catch up day, and I would have this week as well except I decided I didn't want to run in freezing rain tomorrow more than I wanted me-time today. I haven't really been working on whatever lift I'd do on a Wednesday (probably OHP this time, because I like it, but I don't really have numbers for that yet), and I don't really go often enough on a Wednesday to really make any real progress, as much as I might want to do so... *shrug* It might be a game-time decision, and I might just ask if I can do some snatches instead, just for fun 2 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment

obax
Zero Week, Wednesday Game-time decision was to not go to the gym. I didn't get to sleep until after midnight last night because my feet were so cold (I finally had to force my dog to get under the covers with me to warm me up enough to get to sleep), so I was pretty tired today. That, and the freezing rain/ice pellets everywhere, and I just noped right out of that. I did put on pants to have dinner with my sister, so I probably could have put on shorts to go to the gym if I'd really wanted, and maybe I should have, but that's done and over now... Gonna make my bedtime, might even be early. I'll do a bit of stretching etc after this the probably just go to bed. Tomorrow I'm debating again, I think because I'm so tired right now. I kinda want to sleep in, partly because I'm really tired and just want to sleep in, and partly because I know the sidewalks will be treacherous tomorrow (or very wet with cold, salty water, and either is unpleasant for running). I could go to the indoor track to avoid the sidewalks, so I don't really have an excuse not to run, but at the moment I really don't want to... Gonna set my alarm regardless, and maybe once I'm up it won't be so bad... 2 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment
starpuck
Hey girl! Here as always because... you may be approaching, longest standing NF forum friend! Gosh it's been forever, right? Love it! Similar goals on a few fronts too, and boy do I know the thing where you gotta sacrifice one thing to fit in the other thing that is keeping up here. A thing I've tended toward is picking to catch up on one person a day. And also, slowly switching off and on who I follow so it doesn't feel overwhelming. If I don't follow someone this challenge, I make sure they get followed next challenge and so on... Definitely don't hurt a goal, just so you can update the goal on here haha! JessFit
ugh, this weather makes it so hard to get motivated and get to the gym. obax
Week 1 + Monday Sum-Up I won't go into detail, but it wasn't great. It was a bad week in general, not just in terms of my goals. This past Saturday was the 2nd anniversary of the death of my dog, and the couple of weeks leading up to it I was pretty sad just in general. I'm usually pretty self-aware, but it wasn't until my dad mentioned what day was coming up that it hit me that's why I was so sad. I also didn't sleep or eat well most of the week, which didn't help... All in all, I was lacking both energy and motivation, but I'm hoping things will take a bit of an upturn soon. On the positive side, I have officially moved into the basement, meaning I now have considerably more room than I had before, as well as a separate tv/gaming area and sleeping area, which I'm hoping will help with my sleep (previously, my tv was in my bedroom and I often got into bed to watch tv. I'll probably watch tv to wind down, but I'm hoping my brain will separate the two areas, and the physical act of moving from the tv area to the sleeping area will help my brain know it's time for sleep). I also have more than enough room to try out a program like GMB's Elements, and plenty of room to do my physio and stretching. I spent all of Saturday evening, then all day Sunday and Monday getting things moved, set up, and put away, so I didn't get any runs in over the weekend, but I'm ok with that considering the end result, as well as the number of times I went up and down the stairs... 2 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment
starpuck
Hey Obax, sorry you've had a rough go of it thus far. Makes sense when the timing of things gets put into the puzzle. Grats on the basement move. Man it'd be so cool if I could have had the basement for my own! But noooope. Haha. Oh well. I too am hoping for an upswing. This first week has been total shite for me. I've kept up the habits I've formed, but have had no energy to push for new ones. Spring will be here soon... (I hope.) Let's just both promise to keep hanging in there until the wind fills our sails again, ok? We got this. 1 Quote Level 82 ~*~ Ranger Deviant Art Gallery || YouTube Channel Current Challenge "It is difficult. All things worth keeping are." obax
Week 2, Thus Far (to Friday) Still a couple of days left in this week, but I'm wide awake so thought I'd put a quick note to check in. I've been ridiculously busy all week, hence my lack of attendance here. I ran on Tuesday and went to the gym on Wednesday and Thursday, and plan to run at least once this weekend. The other stuff has been hit and miss. One thing I will say is, my increased personal space has made it easier for me to get up and do physio, since I know I have plenty of room and don't need to get annoyed at the tiny amount of floor space or do my exercises in front of an audience in the living room... A couple of late nights (tonight included, I'm technically posting this on Saturday, not Friday) meant that one's not perfect, but it's looking up. My mood has been better this week, I think those two weeks in February will just be hard for me for a while. Hopefully my brain will clue in sooner in the future, since having a reason to be sad make it easier to endure, at least for me. This whole week has been off a bit because of the holiday Monday, so I don't feel like I'm hitting any kind of groove yet. Next week, maybe, now that I'm feeling a little more motivated and it'll be a more or less normal week, routine-wise. Gonna try to find some time this weekend to check in with threads here, with my routine getting back to normal I should finally have a bit of free time to spend. 3 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment
obax
Week 3 Sum-Up Not great on some fronts, not bad on others. The Good ~ Went to the gym 3 times ~ Went to bed on time 5/7 days (includes tonight, but 11pm isn't nearly as hard as it used to be, so it shall be done) ~ Mapped out and ran a route of 5k or more (5.14k to be exact), and the time wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be despite having to walk and wait at several lights. Also mapped out an ~6.5k route for future use ~ Did back extensions on the yoga ball (it went ok, but I've been avoiding them) ~ Did physio 4/7 times (that's not great objectively, but it's improvement) The Bad ~ Only ran once (my motivation was right in the dumps this week... Lots of self doubt and negative self talk...) ~ Only meal prepped once, which led to me resorting to poor choices towards the end of the week ~ Didn't practice the FitPin ~ Didn't really try very hard on pushups One more week to go, and I just want to improve on all the things by just a bit. My motivation has been very up and down lately, which is making it hard to stay consistent, but I'm going to keep trying. I've got a couple things in mind for the next challenge, one of which is to find a way to check in here more often.... Also, GMB Elements! 2 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment
