My head has been dunked in the barrel of Kool-Aid and I've taken a giant gulp. I've not gone 'full wanker' yet, I'm only going twice a week and I currently don't start all sentences in a conversation with 'at my box...' or 'when I was at CrossFit the other day...' But you know, early days. This challenge is more of a battle log for CrossFit. I've been running the same goals forever, because my long term goals haven't changed. I'm still training for OCR's and looking to qualify for the OCR world championships.This means as well as CrossFit, I'll be running three times a week and bouldering once a week. EMOM, AMRAP It's getting a little dull and it's pointless to put my running and bouldering as challenge goals, as they are now pretty much part of my routine. So this challenge is just going to be a little fun place for me to write crap, post pics of WOD white boards CrossFit and talk nonsense WOD, Metcon. Feel free to join in with the crap talk and post dumb memes and gifs. I was recruited into it (because you know, cult!) because I was listening to all the awesome things @Rhovaniel and @Jarric were doing in their CF wods and I wanted to join in the fun! Normally I go to CrossFit on Tues & Thurs but this week I did Mon & Weds. The problem with this is my box doesn't run a normal WOD on a Monday. They do a Barbell WOD instead. I'd heard a few people say they were scared of this class, which kind of had me interested! I soon found out why people were scared! Strength: EMOM: 9 mins 2 Touch n Go Squat Cleans WOD: Barbell Chipper - 24 min time cap 30 Power Cleans 30 Jerks @ 60% 20 Power Cleans 20 Jerks @ 60% 10 Power Cleans 10 Jerks @ 60% This was my first time doing Squat Cleans and Clean and Jerks so I had no idea of what I'd be able to do. I probably started too light on the Squat Cleans and only manged to move up to 32.5kg by the end of the 9 mins. My form was starting to break down a little though, so even though I could have done more, it's probably best I didn't. For the chipper, as it was my first time doing C&J and I didn't know my 1RM the coach recommended I start at 27.5kg and move up from there. This workout completely broke me! I hit the time cap just as I'd finished the last 10 power cleans at 32.5kg. I was kind of glad I didn't make it to the jerks, because at that point my arms were shaking and I don't think I could have lifted that bar above my head even once! And I managed to get some lovely rips in my thumbs Wednesday I went back for a regular WOD with my upper body still feeling destroyed, and what was programmed for strength? Push Press of course! It was a 1RM workout so I partnered up with 2 other girls around my size and we took turns adding the fractional plates and lifting. I finished up on 34.5kg, which I'm happy with, especially considering how my shoulders and arms were feeling from Monday! Then we moved onto the WOD: E3MOM (Every 3 minutes, on the minute) 20 DB Snaches 15 burpees over DB 10 HSPU or 15 Hand Release Push Ups Slowest Round = Score Yep, your slowest round was your score not the fastest. This is because this was supposed to be a lesson in pacing. We were told to scale as needed, including scaling the reps if we weren't finished the rounds. Even when I scaled the reps to 16/10/10 (push ups, not handstands) I was struggling to finish a round. My fastest time was 2:50, but fastest time didn't matter. I didn't realise that if we didn't finish a round, we'd need to know how many reps we were short on that round as this would be our score and I wasn't keeping a note of this in my head (this is why other people had notebooks with them!) . So I finished this WOD with lots of question marks next to my score. But that's fine. I pushed as hard as I could on that day and that's good enough for me. Oh, I also did an interval run session on Tuesday, which went fine, although my lower back was twinging from the C&J's the day before. This weekend should be fun. I'm doing a long run on Saturday - I'm still deciding on how long that run is going to be though. This is because I'll be doing a 10k road race on Sunday with @jonfirestar and @Rhovaniel. After the race, we're planning on going bouldering together, although this will depend on how well my thumb rips have healed by then. Hopefully they will be healed enough for me to tape them up and do some climbing as I've not been in a few weeks and I've missed it. Charlie_Quinn Posted February 11, 2019 Author Report Share Posted February 11, 2019 Weekend Wrap up It's been a bit of a mixed weekend. it didn't start off very well but it got much better by Sunday, thanks to a couple of awesome Rangers. Saturday I headed out for a slow and steady run on Saturday. I decided that I was just going to run between 6 and 8 miles because of the 10km race on Sunday morning. I'm not sure why, but my head was all over the place on Saturday morning and it took me a few hours to convince myself to go out for the run. When I did finally go out, I found myself wrestling with negative thoughts the entire run. It felt like my mind was screaming at me to stop and go home, even though there was nothing wrong with me. I wasn't tired and nothing hurt, I just couldn't get these thoughts to stop. I managed a very slow 6 miles before I felt mentally exhausted from having to fight back against my brain. This left me in a bit of a funk for the rest of the day. Sunday - Welwyn 10k I wasn't feeling confident about this run after Saturday's awfulness, but actually, the race went quite well. I'm a little annoyed I didn't manage to break sub 60 again. I had a weird issue with my feet going numb around the 4 mile mark. It's an odd problem that I've had happen on and off while running but I've not had it happen in the last few years. Essentially, my feet start to get pins and needles, and eventually it gets so bad that my feet go completely numb! It's very uncomfortable and it slows me down, but then after a mile or so, the feeling goes away and I can run normally again. I'm not sure what causes it, but I suspect it's caused by tightness in my calves. Whatever it is, it's costing me time during races, so I need to figure out what it is so I can stop it screwing me up again. After the run, @jonfirestar @Rhovaniel and I went bouldering for a few hours followed by a meal at a local carvery. Bouldering was fantastic, I'm really starting to see the strength I'm building in CrossFit come into play. It was especially surprising when we decided to mess around with the gymnastic rings and I found that I could hold myself in the top position and I could do a few ring pull ups. Rho also showed us how to do ring dips with a resistance band, which I've never tried before. I really liked doing these, so i'm going to start doing them at home with my rings and bands. We also had a little fun with handstands.
