Heidi: Reveal

Heidi

Recommended Posts

Gather round, long term followers and newcomers alike. Pull up a cushion, sprawl out on the carpet, or grab a chair. Pour yourself some tea and prepare for an Unfolding, Druid style.

This challenge has the feeling of Epic Magic, complete with tales and songs and a Fellowship or two.

So many events are coming down the pipe that the last fortnight has felt like standing in front of a fire hose, and my HeidiSense is telling me it isn't likely to lighten up.

So many blessings at every turn, that I'm structuring the challenge as four posts, one for each week that will include the master list of what happened in blessings and growth.

I'm simply amazed at this beautiful life.

Thanks for joining me. I couldn't have made it this far alone.

Enjoy the tea.

Love and peace,

Heidi

Week One: Feb. 11-17

Monday I didn't want to move. I stayed in bed reading and resting until after 2, when I got moving to meet with my sponsor. She's just the best. Afterwards, the Writers weren't able to make it one after another, and then it was just me and Randomly, and we ate and talked shop. It was the real deal. He wholeheartedly endorsed my writing and we shared a bit of our paths to get here. He took my sword and dubbed me henceforth a Bard, that I might leave off my Paladins armor. It was a grand evening, and then it was done.

Tuesday the rain continued. I had an early morning training session, a long break in which I got to talk with my friend, who might join me at the SOPHIA panel, and then a shift at the library. I am still wanting to do nothing but rest. I took a forever long bath and had tea and wrote up my challenge for this round. I got a call for catsitting in April, an email for dogsitting in two weeks, and a request for a regular weekly cleaning gig to begin in MidMarch. I said yes to all of them.

Wednesday: I poked around the neighborhood, knit, and watched Netflix. Kismet Scarf is almost complete.

Thursday I worked at the library, got raw and saturated with the holiday vibes, and went home early. Vivian's dad cancelled Visitation because she had a fever. I finished the Kismet Scarf.

Friday I drove 6 hours to participate in a round table discussion on Existentialism and Romantic Love. It was absolutely wonderful. Free Will, honest communication, vulnerability, and the price of acting -or not- to manifest fulfillment were discussed in terms of authenticity and what it means to live a life authentic happiness.  I met fantastic fellow Philosophers. The round table was lively and thought-provoking; I expect that it will infuse the works of participants in coming years.

The post-discussion discussion at the pub was classic Philosopher's Free-For-All, with food, libations, and ideas flowing. Superheroes were debated. Makeup and Gender roles were analyzed. The value of capitalism was dissected. A logo was designed.

I think I might need to set up a Dark &Stormy Knight of Ideas world tour sheet. I see posters. Possibly a tee shirt.

Saturday morning I had a lovely Conversation with my snow-bound like-minded companion before I drove home from Kentucky. Nap and ice cream recovery. Vivian is sick, so no museum visiting.

Week Two Feb 18-24

I can't remember what happened Monday. I know I saw Katrina. I think I went swimming, because I did a lot of that this week.

Tuesday  I picked up the scarf and mailed it to my composer friend, just in time for a winter storm to hit him in LA.

Wednesday there was snow and ice and I dog sat and watched Mrs. Maisel. There was more swimming.

Thursday at work I got hit by a door - a really thick hunk of security metal door - when a coworker slammed it open while I was trying to badge in. Incident reports, nurse interview, urgent care, and a diagnosis of a concussion. Everything I had planned got wiped off the calendar. Nothing but rest and muscle relaxers. Very limited screen time. I didn't get to see Vivian again.

Friday was a rainy grey day, as if God dimmed lights just to help me heal. My mood is off and I'm resting. Still dizzy when I do much of anything. A lazy time in the pool helped me stretch.

Saturday was a blur of muscle relaxers and sleep. I wasn't able to see Vivian.

Sunday was supposed to be a repeat of Saturday, but the high winds knocked out the power and I relocated to the dogsitting home, where I had time to make tea just before the power went out there, too.

Week Three Feb 25-March 3

Monday I went to the gym again. Swimming has become a routine and it seems to be helping with healing from the concussion. The power isn't on yet, and it's cold. Writing Group was cancelled of course. I heard back from the Portugal conference that I won't be presenting. I'm actually a little relieved, as everything seemed to be coming too fast.

I had lunch with a friend who I hadn't seen much of all winter and I had been missing. He and I swapped tales of work in progress and generally caught up with our lives. I feel whole and restored. He brought news that I have been selected for a Fellowship to support my work doing Philosophy. I was floored, humbled, and honored.

Tuesday morning I had a follow-up appointment with the doctor; I am on  very light duty. Then I had an interview for a promotion at work and I  think it went well. Fingers crossed. One of the Writers offered his guest room until my power is restored, and I gladly accepted. What an amazing community we are building. We had a great time exchanging tales over lunch, then reconvening after errands and a trip to the gym, having dinner and watching Zodiac.

Wednesday I met with the Fellowship of Friends. This continues to be a mystical and spiritual group for me, filled with connectedness in the seeking. More gym time, then dinner and a late nap before writing an essay for an upcoming workshop. The upside to sharing space with another writer is being able to read the first draft right away and make edits. There's something to this Writing Community that is calling me. I don't understand what it is yet. The power can't be turned back on until the landlord gets the lines repaired, so I will be a guest for at least the rest of the week.

Went to the gym every day this week. Swimming 5/7 days.

I'm able to watch television about 20 minutes at a time, with breaks for tea and Writing in between. I've started hopsctching The Umbrella Academy with planning for upcoming Conferences and events. Driving is still weird, and I still wear out easily.

The Road Thus Far:

When last we left our heroine, she was planning on a trip to New York.

Let me tell you, dear reader, that it was a mind blowing event. I have a write up. Link forthcoming. I am so much more myself. More real. I feel as though this has been a significant step in the Becoming.

I came back and slept for twelve hours, then went on a hike with a writer who is giving me tips and being available for me to pick his brain and experience. I am beyond fortunate to have him help with my Craft.

Tuesday I had an interview for a promotion at work and I crafted a syllabus for a seminar: Monetizing Humanity, Free Time, and Digital Nationhood. I don't have anywhere to host this class yet, but that's not the point. I joined the American Philosophy Association. :)

Wednesday I was contacted by a guy from the American Philosophy Association and we traded email about the work we do. He asked me to submit a couple articles to Civil American, and I agreed without thinking much about it. Turns out it's a peer reviwed journal. I'm intimidated and flattered. I began work on the Benefits of Living a Moral Life article, and drafted an abstract for the article about Libraries and the Stewardship of Democracies. While I was working, he wrote to ask if I would consider being on panels in the coming academic year and possibly founding a SOPHIA Chapter in Roanoke. I said yes to the panels and that I'd look into the chapter - I really want to.

Wednesday afternoon there was a moment of tragic tension with a friend. I became aware that this relationship has no part in my life anymore. It's sad, of course. It will take time to adjust.

Thursday I submitted my passport application and worked all day before seeing Vivian. She's lovely and we had a grand time, and she expressed some anxiety at the end of the session. I'm glad to hear her be able to talk about what bothers her.

Friday I began working on a book proposal for a debut nonfiction prize. The deadline is April 30 and the award is good money from where I am sitting, and it comes with a publication as well as an agent. How phenomenal would *that* be? That evening I talked more with my like-minded companion. This relationship has deepened over the winter, and the authenticity of it has sustained me. Ifeel so blessed to have this level of acceptance and support. The Universe seems to have a plan for me.

Saturday I was invited to attend a SOPHIA panel on Existentialism and Romantic Love on Friday evening. It's a five-hour drive, and I said yes.

Sunday I finished the first draft of the Benefits of Moral Living article. I organized the potential writer's into a formal group enough to have a date on a calendar - Monday dinner and talk at my house.

I attended a showing of the apprentice pieces by the Opera, and it was really lovely.

I finished reading The Prince of Central Park and I enjoyed it.

See Week One for the next piece of the unfolding.

Yesterday is the first time in weeks that nothing Monumental was revealed. I spent the day talking with a new acquaintance about living a creative-centered life, then poked around the neighborhood: comics and used book store and toy store and local library. I saved the toy shop for last, since Erica the toy lady and I always love to talk when we can. It was nice to end the afternoon out in a wash of Creative Philosophy.

Today is Thursday, which means I'll be spending all day at the library and then visiting Vivian in the evening. It's a long haul and I always end up emotionally raw by the end of it. Being the Romantic Holiday of Record isn't going to help anything.

In the evening, I knit and started watching Russian Doll. So far it's really fun. Also the Kismet Scarf is nearly done and ready to be shipped to a friend.

Update: Vivian's dad wrote to say she has a mild fever and won't be at Visitation this evening. I finished the scarf.

Valentine's Day is always rough on me; I feel isolated, mostly. Having the winter storm conspire to jam up plans to meet a companion with tomorrow's travels left me deflated. I was able to leave work early which helped. Talking with my girlfriend was the real key.

I was in a good Space, which made all the difference when the stadium grade fireworks got launched on my block at ten at night. The adrenaline response had me shaking as I breathed through the panic into the knowledge that the universe was steady.

Also, Vivian's dad wrote that she has the flu. I won't be allowed to see her on Sunday. With cancelling the visit Thursday, it means I haven't had any contact in over a week.

Her birthday is today.

O man, I nearly forgot:

At the post discussion pub moment, one of the philosophers told me she had been reading my blog and she loved it. Thought I was a real philosopher and that I had raised blogging to an art form.

I beamed.

Congrats on the compliment, that's great. Your philosophy discussions sound so much more interesting than the one's I've heard about. (Middle knowledge, might-counterfactuals, do mid-sized objects exist). Seriously, I once knew a Ph.D candidate in philosophy talking about how they were arguing about whether or not baseballs actually exist or if they are just a construct our minds use to interpret the mass of atoms that's roughly spherical and stitched.

Thought of the moment:

The attractive fallacy of logic and accuracy

"the logic lover . . . wishes not to understand, but to use again and again their favorite magic words, as a shield against criticism and as a weapon against others."

There is a cultural foundation to the framework that the author explored: Logic can be used as a shield against personal feelings of unworthiness because being correct is evidence of moral superiority. This cultural notion of verifiable personal worth through factual accuracy is not only wrong; those who use it are doing so as a security blanket against feelings of unlovability and a lack of self worth.

The danger of acceptance of accuracy as moral high ground is that it is itself a cover for what we really are running from: that we hold inaccuracy to be proof of immorality.

Inaccuracy = Wrong = no good = worthless.

The notion of unlovability then becomes validated by the argument (or spell in this case) of accuracy used to disprove the application of unlovability. Disproving the application of worthlessness in a specific instance validates the general cultural equivalence of accuracy and worthiness.

Therefore, the more insecure someone is, the more important it can feel to be right in a single instance. As if everything hinges upon it. Because, in fact, it does.

The "everything" in this case is the idea that one can prove ones status as worthy of love. When someone rejects the notion of accuracy as evidence of moral superiority, the house of cards falls, leaving adherents feeling worthless. This is when adherents often became dangerous, lashing out at any naysayers, using attacking behavior and defensiveness.

Only when we walk away from the underlying foundation of verifiable (un)worthiness can we get to the point where being wrong is an opportunity. Verification of any quality necessitates the possibility of the absence of that quality.

Worth cannot be verified, because it can't be denied - you are worthy of love and happiness. Living a life of assumed worthiness opens the door to authenticity and freedom.

Looking forward to going to the toy store tomorrow before seeing Vivian in the evening.

I have been blessed with community and support all week, just when I needed it most. Not only physical healing but spiritual healing as well.

Take a deep breath with me and remember that you are loved.

At lunch on Monday, my prodigal friend described me as a "mendicant Philosopher." I had to take a minute to let the poetry of the image fill me.

He then accused me of having taken a vow of poverty. I had to correct him, though gently.

It's more a vow of authenticity, really.
