I mean we're referred to as a temperate region, and we get the typical warm and humid summer, cool but comfortable autumn, cold and somewhat snowy winter, and cool but comfortable spring. But there is the occasional weird warm day from out of nowhere in winter or the super cold below freezing snowy day in early autumn (like October early). But this winter was mostly lots and lots of rain, even though it was still cold (30s and 40s). In fact, it rained so much here that FEMA is already warning of seasonal flooding concerns this spring. Also, @annyshay, love your challenge, and I'm totally here for support and for the Link awesomeness! West Virginia, where seasons aren't a lie. annyshay
I'm getting ahead of myself. Before we start talking about shrines, I should tell you about the weird conversations that I had with this Old Man that I met on the Plateau. He was just sitting by a fire under the shelter of some rocks when I first met him. I was starving, so I grabbed an apple that I found by the fire. He tried to convince me that he was mad that I took his apple, but it was a pretty silly joke to play. He told me about the Temple of Time and the fact that a Great Calamity happened 100 years before. Since that time, this area had fell into decay, but it might be worth it to look around. I headed on down the path, picking mushrooms, acorns, and tree branches off the ground as I went. I found a woodcutter's axe that looked pretty sturdy too, so I grabbed that as I made my way towards the decaying building that once was the Temple of Time. There were a few strange looking monsters sitting amidst the rubble, but I was able to keep my distance and avoid them. I managed to find an old treasure chest with a pair of pants that actually fit past one of the monsters, so that was really exciting. Inside the Temple had been looted and broken down. The sun streamed in through the holes in the roof. One beam of light illuminated a large statue of the Goddess at the other end of the Temple. I walked up slowly and bowed my head to pay my respects. Around that time, I heard the same voice in my head telling me to follow the blinking light that was showing on the Sheikah Slate. I took it as a sign and wandered back out of the Temple into the Wild. There were quite a few monsters to avoid, trees to climb, and boulders to scramble over on my way to the glowing dot on my Shiekah Slate, but I managed to get there in one piece. As I approached the dot, I saw a similar pedestal to the one in the chamber I'd woken up in. As I walked closer it started to glow a bright orange despite being surrounded by large rocks. I touched my Sheikah Slate to the pedestal which started to glow blue. Suddenly the entire area that I was standing on began to shake. Rocks fell around me and the area I was standing on shot into the sky like a giant tower. When it stopped shaking and raising up, I noticed that the central pedestal was under a large rock that suddenly came alive with blue patterns that seemed to coalesce into a single drop of blue liquid that fell onto the Sheikah Slate. When the process finished, I picked up the Sheikah Slate and saw that it now displayed a map of the nearby region. I could see from my high vantage point that several other towers had sprouted up in the far distance. I could also see a large castle off in the distance surrounded by black and pink pillars. Inside the castle glowed a golden light, and the voice came back to my head. It told me I had been asleep for 100 years. It told me that beast was regaining it's true power and the world would face it's end. It told me again that I must hurry before it's too late. I slowly, slowly climbed my way down from the tall tower. I'm sure that if I'd have jumped down it would have been my last moments. How could something so huge have been hiding under the ground and what sort of power was in my Sheikah Slate to reactivate something so large? I had very little time to ponder these thoughts because the same Old Man from before came paragliding over to my location at the foot of the Tower. Paragliding. I know. Once I got over the shock of it, he told me that an ancient power had reawakened and that it was time for me to understand more about the Calamity that had fallen 100 years ago. From our vantage point, I could see a cloud of pink and black circling the large castle in the distance. It seemed to have a head like a giant boar from time to time, and would roar with malice that chilled my bones. The Old Man named the beast Ganon and said that it was responsible for the attack on the kingdom of Hyrule 100 years previously. The Old Man feared that the beast was waking up and time to defeat him was running short. He asked me if I was planning to head to the castle and then told me that we were surrounded by cliffs on all sides of the plateau. The only way down safely was the paraglider. With a laugh the Old Man asked me to follow him. We walked away from the tower to a small outcrop near a lake. Across the lake was a smaller structure glowing with the same orange shapes that had graced the pedestal before I touched it with my Sheikah Slate. He pointed at it and said that he thought a treasure slept inside. He told me that he would trade me that treasure for his paraglider. I have to do something, so it seems I will enter the shrine... 7 Quote Love as thou wilt. Link to comment
annyshay
Week Zero Wrap Up Stasis = Mindful Moments = 13 That's almost two mindful moments per day which is about double what I was doing last challenge. This is a great start, and something I want to continue to expand and solidify. Remote Bomb = Clean Kitchen Sink = 6 This is starting to become a nice little habit. I hope that I can continue to grow it as a good way to keep my kitchen ready for cooking. Cryonis = Movement Check In = 5 I got in 5/7 movement checks this week, which is a great start. I'm respawning my movement practice, so I was starting with just a minute of this and that. A pretty solid foundation to build on. Magnesis = PT Exercises = 6 I'm stepping up my game a bit by adding in a few extra exercises. My goal this week is to do 40 squats three times. We shall see! 7 Quote Love as thou wilt.
