well i made it to my 7th year at nerdfitness! my anniversary was at the end of last month. and i have learned A LOT. mostly that i will always be learning.

this challenge will be a continuation of last challenge with a sprinkle of new items.

goals:

  • two shortened weights workouts: one day will be squats and cable pulldowns; second day will be deadlifts and ez bar burls.
  • 20 mins of running per week: two 10-min sessions.
  • bring weekly sleep average to 7h40m. TV off by 8pm for Mon-Thurs. Sunday in bed by midnight. one drinking weekend day, otherwise it’s kombucha.
  • finish thank you cards (0/4). but like actually do it.
  • complete taxes
  • food – weekend vegetables
  • track yoga – 30mins/week; include bridges and clamshells once/week.

i added a drinking goal, my own taxes goal, and increased the amount of yoga i'd like to do per week.

right? there does seem to be a point where i think i know everything but it's very short-lived and suddenly i realize i know nothing. it's kind of great!

RENT as in the musical?

yes! i know the soundtrack so well but have never seen it. the US tour cast is coming near enough to us and Mark is being played by a friend's old coworker. so the stars aligned finally!

Also, thanks for the reminder about taxes - I have to actually slot time to do that this year, it's not as automatic as when I'd get bored traveling to Houston.

oof sorry for that. but also yw :D

Week 0 – Monday

went to bed early Sunday night and slept in this morning! what a way to start zero week.

left work early to visit dad and the second half of the day was longggg. Spouse hasn’t had as much practice cooking so after a long drive to and from my dad I had to help her when I got home. and the recipes ended up kind of sucking. not her fault but still frustrating to deal with. we watched a little bit of SNL and got to bed. what's a monday without some annoyances though?

(yes, the internet tells me this is from Real Housewives of Atlanta, not Dallas, but they apparently didn't have any good sweet tea gifs)

Bummer on the cooking misadventures, but it sounds like you were able to at least patiently help spouse through it?

Good on you for getting some good sleep regardless though!

Week 0 – Tuesday

at least I’m prioritizing sleep this zero week?! I did give myself enough time to do a bit of yoga before getting ready for work.

I had meant to do TY cards but I got caught up with my dad’s mail and bills.

Fitness: 0/2 runs, 0/2 weights, 0/1 bridges & clamshells, 7/30 yoga

Sleep: 0/1 midnight cutoff, 0/1 drinking day, current avg 8h22m

Life0/4 TY cards

Food: 0/2 weekend vegetables

Week 0 – Wednesday

did some bridges and clamshells when I woke up and then decided to take a sick day. I got the rest of my dad’s bills mailed and paid. and went to the gym!

10 mins of treadmill – 0.78 miles

back squats

65x5

95x5

105x5

110x5

110x5

I think I lightly strained something near my right hip joint. It was bothering me in certain positions for the rest of the day

underhand cable pulldowns

85x5

105x5x4

I called dad’s surgeon about a missed appointment. and visited him during the day which gave me the opportunity to talk to the PT, OT, speech, and head nurse. phew. then of course I get emails from my family linking me to an article about how bad the facility place is that my dad’s at. Not Helpful.

I got a load of laundry washed and dried (still need to fold). I watched the whole 3-part miniseries of Ordeal by Innocence (so good!). dinner was a leftover makeover from potatoes, cabbage, and carrots cooked up with new broccoli in the pressure cooker. these were all pureed into a creamy soup with coconut milk and crumbled sausage I had previously cooked .

Fitness: 1/2 runs, 1/2 weights, 1/1 bridges & clamshells, 20/30 yoga

Sleep: 0/1 midnight cutoff, 0/1 drinking day, current avg 8h11m

Life0/4 TY cards

Food: 0/2 weekend vegetables

I'm refraining from saying something snarky because it's not my family. You're amazing for doing all the hard, useful stuff and taking great care of your dad.

I hope the hip strain is nothing major and that it disappears by tomorrow.

Unless that email also had links to a better facility they have throughly researched (in person!), and they are volunteering to take on all the hard work and the expenses involved in moving him there, and to take over as the primary family caregiver/contact after the move, it's a passive aggressive piece of junk that probably served no other purpose than to ease someone's guilt at not being more involved in this than they are. Print it out, give them the pages, and tell them where they can shove that "helpful" email.

slowish day at work which was good. went to look at a house after work and got home around 7:30 so didn't get to bed at my usual time. luckily we have plenty of leftovers to eat for dinner. and also i think i am just getting to the point where i'm starting to feel tired at my normal time again since daylight savings.
